This is a question that I am having difficulty finding a final answer to. Can pets, such as Gargantuan, mystic allies, etc., process area damage? I heard yes, and I have heard no! For most WD builds, they are based on the damage that pets create. Does AD benefit with their damage output?
Since this patch area damage is procced by all your damages including your pet damage. Remember procs cant proc procs. I assume this would also count for it too. So example. if you have shard of hatred equipped and you do lightning damage spell, this would have a chance to proc area damage. However if that lightning damage procs the shard of hate lightning damage, it now can not benefit from area damage chance.
that said : rule of thumb: everything which is a talent and does damage (that includes pets), can proc area damage. (e.g Wand of Woh procs 2 extra explosive blasts, however thats not true, it modifies the spell itself, thus all explosives blast will again trigger area damage.
Since you also heard differently, i guess it because it wasnt like this until the last patch / area damage was bugged in general ), so i assume they just got outdated info
There it states 'Gargs do not benefit from Area Damage, Resource Cost Reduction, or Cooldown Reduction - Avoid these utility stats and instead get armor first or life % second, where applicable.'
This is where the confusion takes place. I thought that AD is processed by pets, but I don't want to waste a stat on AD if it is not effective. Can anyone show through calculations whether it does or does not process for pets? I don't care about fire bats as I know it processes for that, I am talking about the Garg damage as they are independent from the main character.

Well seeing as all the top ranking WDs on all server have multiple items with area damage on them I would say all pets and dmg procs it.
Like 95% of LoN WD damage is the Gargs so I don't see why they would be using Area if it didn't.

I just came across this thread:
