i apologize then =)
It isn't really that simple. It would split the comunity even more, considering there is already a split from SC/HC. Unless you suggest Non-PK HC chars still being able to interact with PK HC chars, which is just a terrible idea. People would make their MF chars non-pk and their pk/duel chars pk, only people that would have pk chars would be the pkers. If your goal is to kill PK off than your suggestion would do it.
We are not talking about an MMO. Diablo has always been VERY easy to start a new character and move along. Creating multiple characters is something that will happen and should happen. So big deal...I have one PvE character, One PVP Character, and One Hardcore (yes...if you choose hardcore you are part of PVP and the 1 death system)
I do not believe this would splinter the community.
A few years ago PC Gamer or some such had a sort of game deathmatch for best game in history, where they put games head to head and people would vote for the one they thought was the best, than the winners would move on and go head to head until only 2 games were left. Unfortunetly Diablo2 lost in the final to ... Starcraft. Untill the final Diablo2 thrashed all other competition by the tens of thousands of votes.
It was clear only thing that can defeat a Blizzard game is only another Blizzard game. To put Sims and Diablo2 in the same sentance should be a crime against gaming.
Perhaps the people who play "The Sims" aren't the type of game players that read PC Gamer magazine
If you go strictly by sales, the Sims wins most popular by a large margin:
That's like hosting a "what is the best game ever? Diablo or ______( insert any game here) ____" on this site. This website is dedicated to the pre-discussion of a game still 2 years out. I'd say most of the viewers here are fairly die-hard fans that consider the diablo series to be one of the best around. It's called having a bias for the polls. Similarly, if you went to a WoW website and asked what is better, WoW or Age of Conan? you'd most likely receive a similar biased answer.
Honestly, I just want a nice collection of peoples ears

-My Position on Black Metal: "So you know those annoying kids you see running around listening to crap radio rock bands wearing tripp jeans and shopping at hot topic? Well, Black Metal is just the next big thing... have fun with your trends, I'm gonna stay metal"
Just because Sims sold more doesn't make it better, actually I couldn't find a more boring game than Sims if I tried.
Are you suggesting that only D2 and Starcraft fans read PC Gamer or whoever made that poll? I'd be willing to bet good money that even now 8 years after release D2 would still beat Sims as "Which is the better game?" by leaps and bounds.
You completely missed the point of my reply. I'm saying that the type of person who plays the Sims most likely doesn't read PC Gamer magazine/website. This means any sort of poll that asks what the best game is will not hit their fans.
It's like going to the NHL website forums and asking people what their favorite sport is then declaring hockey the best sport ever because it won a landslide vote.
Total game sales has a lot to say about how many people enjoy a game. Just because it doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean that it lacks a strong following. If they released a my little pony MMORPG that appealed to 13 year old girls, I'm sure the 13 year old girls (and the 45 year old men that follow them) would buy millions of copies of the game. To them, this could be the best game ever (for varying reasons) while you might still be appalled by it.
In the end, you're basing the popularity of a game/set of games off a single poll from a website that nobody really cares about anyways. I can't stand visiting any of those online game sites because all you find are dumb articles that go nowhere separated by 20 pages of advertisements. It's the GQ equivalent of online sites.
Listen, if Pking isn't going to be in the game then we will have to slaughter each other in PvP. Obviously from Blizzards response to Pking, they don't seem to like it or "lawless chaos" so your best bet is to own noobs in PvP.
So man up and get ready to get owned over and over by my hand in PvP. Instead of crying like a baby about how you can't randomly kill people in public games, why don't you try calling me a carebear in a PvP game after I string a nice necklace from all the ears you'll be giving me. That is of course if you are still going to play the game which, even without Pking, I bet you will.
I never really cared one way or another about Pking in D2 though I did like dueling others. However, some of you sure do talk tough, so lets see how well that tough talk translates to PvP in Diablo3.
i dont think anyone is saying that they don't like PvP... PvP is always my favorite part of any online game.
The point i am trying to make is that pvp is separate from the game all together. A pvp game is not connected to the rest of the game except that you use your character in an all out brawl. Which is also fun.
PKing however provides something that PvP cannot... an atmosphere and fear and uncertainty. You never feel too safe or too comfortable. When someone enters a game and instantly hostile everyone and you hear that hostility noise.. no matter how good you are, it still sends chills down your spine. And that is what is great about PKs.

We'll see
A lot of the people who defined early diablo2 pvp are going to play diablo3 together. Expect to see these people front-running builds, item setups, and duel outcomes.
I really do not understand how this argument can be this complicated? It isn't complicated in the least bit. The selfish needs of a few are grossly outweighed by the interests of the majority.
FYI, PK did NOT make Diablo 2, that is the most ridiculous claim. The way PvP was implemented in Diablo 2 has been protested and despised since almost the day the game came out. I do happen to remember back on Blizzards discussion board not long after D2 came out many protests demanding change.
But this argument is all moot anyways now isn't it? PK will not be impilmented (as opposed to PvP). It is obvious that the new dev team are implimenting D3 the way D2 was ironically suppose to be. This game was ALWAYS meant to be a cooperative game for online play. But the way the original team did it, they failed quite simply.
So if you can not handle acting like a 10 year old, and want to be a social misfit, then enjoy D2. Meanwhile, us adults will move on to D3 and have the time of our lives free from immature little anti-social tards. Kudos to the D3 dev team for making D3 the way D2 should have and was suppose to have been.
READ THIS: - The majority is usually wrong about most things in general. Be it about video games, politics, you name it. That is why our world is so fucked up.
So true... the majority is rarely correct. If anyone disagree's, go study the Socratic Methode and Socrates himself. If you say his ideas are flawed, then your saying the greatest philosopher in the world is flawed... and yes... that is a fact.
PK IS DIABLO... Throughout my experiences, playing for about 6 to 8 years of Diablo, Diablo II and the expansion... I have RARELY found people that only play for the PvE aspect of Diablo. Why? I believe they create their own rooms, play around the way the like too, due to fear of PK. PK in softcore was not even close to being a problem. Once in a while one might come along and ruin your Baal run or something. Big Deal.
In HC its a problem only because of the high amounts of hacks.
You people are saying that you don't want to see the same PK as in Diablo II. By saying that, you incorporate all hacks involved in your experience. Seriously. There were LOADS of hacks and Bots that were created for HC that allows you to PK people to the easiest form. Also, enchant sorcs played a part in PK in HC being anoying. But then again, your chicken bots helped you aswell.
Now imagine the same system as in Diablo II being incorporated into Diablo III but with no hacks. It is actually a "challange" to PK someone. No Maphack... No Bots... just pure skill. That is the inhirent style of the game. Simply because a couple programs destroyed your trust in PK doesn't mean its flawed.

Max Schaefer left Blizzard and formed Flagship Studios. He was one of the original creators of D2.
In all honesty, i believe he left simply because he did not agree with the heading of the project. He would no agree to kill his own creation, or ruin it. From the looks of it right now, thats what the dev team of blizzard are doing.
Why fix soemthing that isnt broken.
Sure you can improve, which Diablo II desperetly needed, but not at the cost of other aspects.

Our sides will never agree...
see on my side (i don;t speak for everyone as im sure that you are correct about of alot of the anti-social misfits) there are big balled, blood hungry, top of the game, players. Players who are good enough to go out into the chaotic d2 pvp/pk system and own people... you know, geenrally stay alive long enough to do some dmg.
and on your side all i see is the argument comeing from the people who couldnt hold their own in the pvp/pk system.
its that simple.. if you were good, you LOVED it.. if you were bad.. well, you know how you feel.
One other note: By incorporating a system that allows for hostile actions against non-consensual players, you cater to both groups. Carebears have their private games to avoid this style of play. If you remove this feature, you cater to one group and completely exclude the other.
One choice gives both sides options, one does not.

I believe it just had to be said. Thats basicly the only reason PK happened so much. There was no risk for the person doing it with hacks. You click 1 button, it teleports you to the person, u do blizzard, and then u click another button and u find youself in town.
3 buttons.
Oh wait, i forgot. 4 buttons. 1 to auto hostile > waypoint with no delay
People seem to forget about that. And not to mention there was nearly nothing preventing people from using these hacks, and them being so available to the public.
WTF.. your talking about betraying players as if i slept with your wife and molested yoru son.... were talking about me killing your untangible character made of pixels who will respawn in about 3 seconds in town.. where, dont worry sweatheart, you will be safe in town.
And you STILL get pleasure from causing others grief.
Seek help.

You're talking about a intangible character made of pixels. You're acting like you stride out and conquer the world.
Killing people in a game somehow makes you "big balled" and "top of the game"?
I am really tired of everyone suggesting that those of us who want PK disabled in D3 to "go back to WoW". I, for one, have never played WoW, and never will. I enjoyed Diablo II for a good number of years, and want to be able to enjoy Diablo III in all its glory without the assholery of hackers and griefers breaking the immersion. I want to be able to meet other players and perhaps even make some friends along the way, not be forced to play by myself (may as well just play single-player if that would be the case). You can't make friends if you don't go out and mingle, and you can't mingle if you lock up your games where no one can randomly enter and greet you.
What you pro-PK children are proposing is called a "catch-22". Look it up and get back to us.
Cheers,
