Meh it was already broken, one person could load themselves to the brim with MF gear and the other all skill gear and then the MF geared person could get the last hit and they could both roll in the loot.
Eh, true enough.
Now it's a lot simpler, even <seemingly> encouraged.
Loot Whoreing was a big part of the game. One time some guy dropped all his epics on the ground when he picked up his body and I snatched his 4 socketed bvalor socketed with 4x 15/40 jewels. Good times were had by all.

Umm, except the guy that lost his items?
Well, I think the point of the system is that you WON'T see what the other people were dropped, you'll only see what was dropped for you to pick up. So, how can you miss what you never even saw?
I have to wonder if the new devs were simply playing the game and got tired of having to kill Baal while 6 others just stood at the ready with empty chars to grab everything.
It is clear with everything we have seen so far in terms of information on this game that they are working hard to get people to play together more cooperatively than D2, which is really nothing more than a free for all no mans land of everyone in it for themselves. Which goes against the whole concept of cooperative play.
I personally love the idea they will implement. I want to go into a game, and have people focused on actually playing the game and not worrying about the stupid items. I will admit that it is frustrating when someone teles over to grab something that essentially is from your kill. Last ladder at the beginning this happened twice where I lost a Lo and Ormus thanks to people that did no fighting, but simply waited for drops. It also seems to me that they are attempting to make this game less about items and more about gameplay, here having players focus on killing and not on what drops.

At this point we don't know if this new system fixes the leechers-taking-loot issue. If it is about fairness, unless they implement something that based on your damage gives you loot (not likely).. you're still going to have the jerk offs tossing one frozen orb/meteor whatever into the fray and then retreating behind a pillar while the hammerdins do all the work (to use a baal run as an example). Except, in the D2 system, where they have to at least teleport into the midst of battle to try and grab something, with this system they can just SIT in the back and do absolutely nothing aside from some initial useless damage, and then collect all the loot that dropped for them when everything is over. Like I said it's just speculation at this point since they haven't really gone into detail with how it is going to function. But for every one good thing you find about this new system I'm positive you can find a bad thing to match. Theoretically it sounds messy.. let's hope they have had the foresight to implement some form of control as to who gets what based on actual participation in battles. I have faith in them.. we'll see how this pans out when more details are released.
Can someone clarify something for me please. Do items drop only from YOUR kills or they can also drop from your partners ?
Like if my partners are killing everything before me, will i see something drop or you only get drops from the stuff you kill ??
I took it as, if you're in the general vicinity, any kills by your party will drop items. Each item will only be visible to one person. If my friend kills a skeleton and it drops a rare, that could be my rare. It is randomly chosen.

"The gaming public now has focus on Diablo again, and with it comes the modern-age of trolling and jackassery."
I think the ability to steal loot from other people is what makes diablo diablo. One of the first things that strike me when I play WoW is that you can't steal loot and also soulbound loot.
It is essential to keep it this way because sometimes you snatch someone epicse's it's fun but other times someone might snatch your epics it ads an element of surprise.
This is a far better system then the previous D2 system since it easily results in one dude stopping his attack to wait for the boss to die so he has a half second advatange over the drops and gets to pick up everything which sucks not to mention the many times I SHOULD have gotten the item only to lag right when I click so i completely get shafted at least this way everyone has a fare chance to get whatever.

Soon comes the day when all shall be free,
Even you, even me.
Soon comes the day all shall die,
Surely you but never I. We rode on the winds of the rising storm,
We ran to the sounds of thunder,
We dance among the lightening bolts
And tore the world asunder
I think this new way is a very good one...it needs to STAY just as they said, with having people seeing their own drops, but not just finding drops for their char. i like that you can find drops for your char, every char, and other chars. I know it does become a bit ridiculous when me and my brother stop fighting the mob of monsters to get the item before the other. I like the new method.
"The comet carries a dark omen in its fiery being and it calls the heroes of Sanctuary To defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells – And even the failing luminaries of the High Heavens itself."
This will definitely make it more likely for me to try teaming up with others in co-op. I'm usually a loner, so I've never played an MMO, and I only occasionally bother with multi-player, but I will probably give this game a chance on that side.

No...thats dumb.
Blizz is doing it the right way. It will make the community closer because there will be more trading..and less "who is the fastest clicker gets the loot"
Taken from Bashiok (Blizzard Poster) on the official forums.
"Currently - while in a party each player will see their own drops from each kill.
This could mean that after killing a zombie I see a sword drop, and you may see a shoulder slot item drop. Or I see nothing drop, while you got an axe.
Obviously while in a group you're killing faster, and this could translate to an exponentially increasing number of drops with each additional player in your party. However, it's balanced in such a way that the drop % is pulled back a bit with each additional player (I'm simplifying it, but that's what it boils down to). This keeps it from being almost detrimental to not play with a full party, while still giving a nice increase to the amount of drops if you do.
From this system it seems quite a few people got the impression that you'll never see items drop that you can't use. For instance, a Barbarian will never see a dagger that only a Witch Doctor can use. This isn't true. There is no effect, or at least no currently intended effect, to restrict which items which classes can or can't see for their respective drops. It's still intended that you could see an item that your class can't use. It's easy enough to drop the item, ask if anyone can use it, or just sell it off of course."
sounds alright actually. i guess it removes the rush of adrenaline that goes through ur body when you see a unique ring drop from baal. but it is more fair, u just get whatever comes to you. but imo it slows things down because youll have to constantly ask if anyone needs something and if they do you will have to pick it up then drop it so they can get it

Don't get me wrong I loved MF but it was broken as hell.
Hopefully it's in the game somehow.
