Well I'm sure most people would complain that this is too related to WoW, but when I first started playing WoW after 2 years of Diablo2, I sort of wished it had it. The only trouble would be how would they put it into the system of entering games like D2. The only reason that works for WoW is because its all one big place. Unless they had a few games called auction rooms where you could put stuff up for bidding. this might be a lot easier, but many people will probably disagree with me.
Hmm thinking about this again, it will only really be useful if there's a useful currency, or an AH that has a system more to just link up people within the game instead of going out of the game to forums to trade.
I was thinking of the AH being like, going to Gheed's caravan and asking him what items he has for sale. It will have a nice organized system you can browse items for sale, or put up ISOs so people could be item hunters, filling people's ISO requests on the AH.
I'd love an AH. I hated the pains of trading in D2.
I'd even be happy with a barter house where you could put up items and receive item offers. Then you could just take whatever offer you wanted. While you had an item offer in place the item was taken from you so you couldn't offer it somewhere else or use it.

"The gaming public now has focus on Diablo again, and with it comes the modern-age of trolling and jackassery."
Diablo is too PVE oriented to easily have an auction house fit in, since at most there will be roughly 8 players per server in D3.
I think the general idea of the AH is that it would be across b.net and not just within your current game. At least that's how I took it. With only 8 people it is very worthless though.

more of like a barter type house might be useful, considering gold is worth nothing in diablo as of now. unless they change that fact, an auction house would be pointless. some way of having something like someone said earlier where you can put your item up and people can make different item/gold/whatever offers and you pick what you want, that would be nice... dont know how they would work it into the game though, should be interesting to see what turns up
An AH is exactly what I was thinking. Too bad alot of people will oppose it just because its from WOW, and too bad it wont work unless Blizz can find a way to make gold worth something in Diablo III

Instead of a WoW type auction house, they should implement a Marketplace tab in bnet. Here, you'd be able to view your characters' inventory, select what you have available to trade, and type in your terms (what you'd be willing to trade it for).
Maybe you could also input what items you want into your profile or something.
Also, I don't think people would object to an "Auction House" just because WoW has them. If it is a well thought out and well implemented feature that expedites the acquisition and redistribution of phat lewtz, people will accept it.
There are Trading Houses in the universe of Diablo. I think it would work but I don't want it IN the game, but in B.NET. That means you could check the AH (or trading house) when you are not in a game (like a tab in b.net) and you could choose items from all your characters.
An auction system wouldn't work in this game to my knowledge. This game won't be where you jump in a server and you are walking around with 1000s of players like World of Warcraft. So the auction system would be difficult to achieve. But not impossible. Im sure their trade system will be good enough. Auction house would be good to see though. Who cares if it is sorta like WoW, its easier way to obtain the items you want. Making it a good community.
It would be cool if they made something like the auction house. But instead of trading just money, you can select a few items and in a quantity that you are willing to trade off for it.
What I mean by this is that if you want to trade a Shako for a bartucs, you could select Bartucs as the trade medium.
It would be exactly what the community wants, but of course keep the old D2 trading system, because it was also effective. It's just that if there was an Auctioneer, even just one in the game at a city, it would be useful.
but to keep up with the Medieval attitude they would have to put it in a city that is near water, as that is the fastest and most efficient manner of trade
I think it's a pretty good idea. You would be able to view the AH from your main battle.net screen. It should be able to set up trades as well. Like you could list an item you are looking to trade and people could PM you or some shit.

You must find the courage to step through this gate...
Many people think it doesn't work because only 8 players / game. Well it doesn't have to be an ingame system.. It could be a UI feature in battle.net chat area (or whatever its gonna be) where you can check your inventory and probably account stash/bank and put up offers and check other offers.
It could be item for item trade system or item for gold system or both ofc.
Item for item: You put up and item, type there what are you looking for and other people can make offers to that item. If you accept it the trade is made.

That way mid levels will still buy rares and magic items from it, but higher level items you will need to trade for it.
