I can't tell you how much I hated this weapon in D2. It was bad enough that they had the weapon at all, but then they implemented an entire line of skills around this piece of flotsam invention! Yeah, yeah, I know all about how "uber" those javazons were, but I just never could get past it. If you must implement this retarded weapon, please, for the love of all that is unholy, leave it as a simple skill (much like the barbarians had single skills for axes, swords and the like). Surely, you can come up with something more interesting than an entire skilltree based on one of the ugliest, most useless weapons ever conceived in an online video game.
Okay, I will take a deep breath now... does anyone agree with me? Please say so, because I'm sure everyone that disagrees will be in here post haste.
dont think your going to get much support here. i myself like the javs, but if there's no amazon i see no reason that they would make a return
That's the thing, they very well may make a return. And I'd love to see what the male version of such a class would be, but I hope they focus more on scouting/hunting/bowmanship than they do on javelins. I absolutely abhor that weapon. Surely, they can invest those skilltree slots on something more creative?

Well they fitted the Amazons, if there is a class it fits somehow then why not. I see your point though.

Well... I don't really get that. That's like saying bows are uncreative. They're both ranged weapons.

Erm, what's wrong with javelins besides your personal opinion that they're uninteresting.
Within the lore of the amazon character, it's sensible to use a spear-like weapon alongside their bow (pick off the animal from afar, finish the kill at close range), but javelins... damn, I hate them. They are an ugly, ungainly weapon and I loathe them with every fiber of my existence. I'm not exactly a fan of spears, either, but they are a respectable weapon when used at close range, especially when set to receive a charge.
But, yeah, you're right, it's a personal opinion, I wanted to know if anyone [dis]agreed with me and why.

Apples/oranges. Javelins/spears are just terrible weapons, IMO, when used at range. I especially don't like javelins because they are one-handed. Spears I respect when used as polearms. Bows are MEANT to be ranged weapons, it is their inherent design.
Along those lines, one ranged weapon is good enough of a skilltree, if you want more variety, give them something to use at close range. Be creative!

Erm have you ever heard of the pilum?
They were meant to be ranged weapons, they were weighted to increase the penetrative power.
I agree that javelins are an extremely odd weapon.
It _has_ been used in battle, but normally you throw a javelin and then charge in. You don't throw javelin after javelin after javelin after javelin.
I won't complain if they bring javelins back, but I wont use it since it's just too stupid.
Exactly, thank you! I'm glad I wasn't the only one that despised that waste of skill slots. lol

You can take the technology to increase the efficiency of just about anything. I'm sure, with enough time and research, we could make shotput balls into a worthwhile weapon. That doesn't mean it has a place in a game, especially designing an entire skilltree around it!
Like I said, variety can be had without having two entire skilltrees based on different ranged weapons, especially when one of them is just so damn useless.
Any less valid an opinion than the one about art direction? But that opinion gets play all over this website. lol
Seriously, many, many video games out there have plenty of depth/variety without using these hideous, bastardized spears.
Lol.. You can also argue that many video games out there CAN have plenty of depth/variety too without using swords/axes/hammers and just using guns .
An opinion is never wrong. Your opinion is solely your opinion. You dislike javs/spears doesn't mean others dislike them. So if i dislike hammers/sword should Blizzard just remove them?
Your argument is just unfounded and actually there wasn't any point in the discussion anyway

i dont remember quite were i read it, maybe i saw it in an interview, im sure only two previous classes will return, and seeing as how the barbarian is for sure, and this entire franchise revolves around heavan vs hell, my money is on the paladin, or some for of holy warrior, amazon is just to boreing. bow and arrow... great... point and shoot, BOREING. javs... great.. point and throw....BOREING. fuck that i want to see bolts from the heavens and locust swarms.... YA locust swarms, thats bad fucking ass right there. oh... thats not a paladin. but still wicked awesome.
They were used heavily in combat by the Greeks, as a frontline weapon that could be thrown if they wanted to. It was also short enough that they could use a shield, forming the famous Greek phalanx and keep their foes at spears length at the same time.
The OP clearly thinks that anything labeled as a javalin is purely for sport purposes. Also, go back to history class.

Sport purposes? Link to the post where I said anything about sports? It's cool that you have a differing opinion, but making stuff up on the fly...

I would say, the more variety the better diversities/depth we have in the game.
Blizzard please read the above which i fully agreed with

This petition is to KEEP the current art direction
Good Job Blizzard. Stay on Track

Because you try to say a weapon of war is ungainly in a combat situation.
The short spear was designed for killing.
There will be killing in D3, I say bring in the javalins.
Exploding potions too, even though no one used those.
