I never understood why people play characters of the opposite sex. It's like having a gender crisis in a game. It's alright if you have one. But there are those guys who only play female characters and they really bother me.

im male i'd play as female. just to to have a sexy body to look at as i go through the game.
the female barbarian... is YUCK. They better make her more sexy. Female barbarian looks like a shemale.
I understand the barbarian race is very muscular and bulky, but come-on, male barbarians need sexy wives. maybe have them taller than regular females with the right female muscle mass.. but dam, the design here just looks not sexy at all.
Yeah, totally. It's a downright shame for any woman in a video game to be realistically proportioned. Muscles have no place on a woman, even if she is continually wearing heavy armor, lifting various weapons, and slaying demons.
Every female depicted in gaming should be young, tall, and slender, while dressing in as little as possible. Let's even go a step further and sew her mouth shut, so we never have to hear her say a word; just watch her strut her little pixelated stuff.
Truthfully, I like the look of the female Barbarian, just because she actually looks like a Barbarian. No, she doesn't look like Anya or Malah the Koala, but she doesn't have to. Anya didn't strike me as the fighter-type (daughter of an Elder and all that), and Malah was too old.
Actually, the female Barbarian reminds me a lot of Charsi, and she didn't seem petite and "sexy."
actually my ideal female barbarian would be middle-aged. i mean, when i think about middle age women, they seem to be bigger than when they were younger. yeah? hahlhaha. where are all the female diablo fans anywayss.
And she'd be a lot more BUSTY to even out the bulk of her muscles. Just slightly slender than the one in the concept design.
not like its such an unrealistic idea. gender roles in barbarian community probablly affects them like they do to many animals. if the male possess such big muscles and strength, what is the role of the female?
also males and female have different hormones... each promote muscle development a certain way. i'd note that some female qualities like hip/breast ratios should be better thought out.. i dont really see the female barbarian here as capable of delivering birthhhh.
but of course, there are some muscular females that look sexy as well. mostly lean muscles compared to male's bulkyness. i think xena looked kinda big but she still maintain her sexyness. goody.

Traditionally, Barbarian women probably wielded magic and healing abilities rather than weapons. On the other hand, not every woman would conform to that standard - shieldmaidens and whatnot. Regardless, women were involved in combat, and we can clearly see this in Act 5; there are several female Barbarian corpses strewn throughout the entire Act.
I just compare Anya and Charsi, both of Barbarian heritage:
Hotlinked because I'm a lazy person.
Obviously Anya is more slender and "feminine" than Charsi is. This is likely because, unlike Charsi, Anya isn't handling weapons for a living. Her description on the Arreat Summit says that she's schooled in magic and healing, as well as being highly educated in Barbarian history in order to become a proper leader for her people.
Charsi, as we all know, makes a living by creating and repairing weapons. I also wouldn't put it past her to have taken down a few demons, either, since she fled the Monastery with the other Rogues. She has a heavier build to her, and I would imagine that a full-fledged Barbarian warrior would have the same, if not heavier, build that Charsi does.
It's just irritating to hear a majority of people (usually men) complaining that women in games aren't "sexy" enough. There are already plenty of games that cater to eye-candy, and I'm glad that Blizzard is at least allowing the female Barbarian to be realistically proportioned (though I wouldn't be surprised if a scantily-clad female showed up just to please the menfolk).
It's times like this that I want to ask those people complaining about the female Barbarian a question: If you were in a medieval-ish combat situation where you were required to partner up with a woman, who would you choose - the slender, delicate woman who cared more about impressing you with her looks, or the larger-build woman with some visible muscles who you knew had force behind their swing?
i'm female and will play both depending on the class e.g. i would most probably play the male barbarian but play a female if there is some sort of sorceress character again
I'm going to be playing through the game as both male and female of EACH class, just for even the minute chance that the dialogue is somewhat different between the genders.
That, and I HAVE to play a female Barbarian, because honest to god the model looks almost unnervingly like a beefy version of my girlfriend, and the idea of roaming around sanctuary slicing up zombies as a testosterone pumped version of my girlfriend tickles me in ALL the right places.
Oh, and of course it doesn't hurt that the very idea will drive her nuts.
Name I'm tossing around thus far: Nicole + Goliath/Lilith/monolith = Nicolith ... or Red-HeadedStompChild
any suggestions would be deviously appreciated, hehe
I don't feel like myself if I play as a female, lol. Its just not cool enough because it doesn't feel like me.
That's kind of the same way I feel. I'll play male characters now and then, but they feel a bit awkward to me, and I can never manage to use them for long. Actually, the only males on my Diablo accounts are mules, along with the only Hammerdin I've ever made (he was for MF after the ladder reset, and I felt so guilty about his power that I stopped using him - never using one of those again, lol).
I'll play both, what most people do, each sex suiting a class. And OFC I have to make a female Barb just to smash stuff as a chick, I just find that amusing. I would really love it if the had different stats like more dex and energy in females and more strength and vita in males, nothing that can't be made up within a few levels, but just to make it a little more, realistic.
I probably wont make all female characters, I'll make a male barb, I know that. I for one think muscles are sexy, but not to the point of looking like a mutant. I think when some guys look at a powerful/strong woman it makes them question their own masculinity. I guess I just like to see women kick ass.

Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
I will start with a male barb, and then switch to Red Sonja here.
