I admit that the witch doc is a stretch, I don't Vikings and witch doctors go together but his powers are cool. Come on if you don't like the zombie wall there is something wrong with you. I think everyone will like the Doc once you play as him, All I hear so far from people is that they hate what things look like. None of you have played the game, so just hold those crap hoses before you spray the game down with negative feed back.
His spells are great additions and are much better than the Necromancer's parallel versions (when you do compare him to the Necro)...
Rabies - really it's a DoT (like a poison) BUT it spreads when it kills an enemy (until it maxes out of course).
Horrify and Confuse - the Necro had both of these as curses - just some minor difference in D3 so far.
Zombie wall - C'mon it's Bone wall but it does damage! It's like casting bone cage and then iron maiden on someone.
Pet summons - really you can go Necro or Druid with this one. Can't really talk about this one until more summoning spells are revealed. But look at the differences: you can buff them with your attacks now, and you can blow them up and cause damage. Not a bad couple of additions!
Fireball - eh can't really say what it's comparable to. It's just the WD's version of a long range attack.
So all that to say I see differences, or at least improvements, and not so much replacement.
It was a disappointment that there are only 5 classes in D3. I think the witch-doctor is a bad replacement for the undead-caster. Most importantly, he is a waste of one of the five precious classes.
Why?
Primary reason:
He looks so weird and ugly.
His class name even sounds weird. it doesnt sound dark at all! I would much prefer the warlock, shaman, and best of all, the necromancer.
I am not a hardcore fan of the necromancer, but if you are going to replace such a meaningful class, please choose wisely.
Why does the witch doctor have a fireball spell? THIS DOESNT MAKE SENSE. Fire should remain unique to the sorceress (unless you have elemental traps like the assassin in d2).
But a plain fireball spell?
I like the undead wall. The mongrels, locust swarm, horrify and other spells are pretty uncool.
Just my thought. I have to admit, the WD Looks pretty ugly. His spells seem all over the place.
The barbarian totally overshadowed the WD in the gameplay trailer.
And since you have spent so much time playing the witch doctor i'm sure all your whining is not a waste of space on these forums, i don't understand why people whine before they have even tried a class.

It's Locust Swarm, by the way.
Now, Blizz could've just gave something those skills and called it a Necromancer. I've posted this before. They're designing new classes instead of bringing back versions of old classes heavily stripped of their abilities. Imagine a Necromancer limited to 5 minions.
We never know how good the Witch Doctor is. We only saw a small part of him, I am pretty sure Blizzard will make all the characters fun, although I do agree right now that the Witch Doctor doesn't seem all that great.
The only spell I thought was out of place was the cold spell. The rest - fire bomb, zombie wall, zombie dogs, horrify, soul harvest - all fits nicely into his theme, I think. However, he does look kind of weird... it's cool, but I'd like to see some alternate costumes

Ranger - Ranged Weapon Mastery (fire a bow or javelins like a machine gun!), Traps (MK style!), Pets (lions, tigers, and bears oh my!) - physical damage based
Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic
LEAP ATTACK!!!!! PLAGUE OF TOADS!!!!!
SLOW TIME!!!!!
I love the witch doctor it seems liike an awesome class. The firebomb is not out of place lol, in the lore they say that the tribes fight these wars gather human remains to sacrifice. If you guys look closely at the graphics of fire bomb it's actually a burning skull the Witch Doc is throwing.
Woops, I was thinking of Mass Confusion as a cold spell, lol.
Nah, everything seems to fit him well. And I don't think his fire will replace Sorc's fire.

I apologize for misusing the term "Gay" in my thread. I never meant it in a homophobic sense, and I have been warned to change my post, which I eventually did.
Blizzard always shares ideas from other franchises, did you know that Witch-Doctor was also a unit used in WarCraft 3?
I've seen it and learned much about the WD. I am not alone here, a lot of people dislike the WD, THAT ALONE means they have not chosen wisely.
This is in regards to van's arguments.
Just because some people on a fansite forum don't like a particular piece of a game (for example, the graphics or a class), does not mean it is a bad choice all around.
Are you forgetting the people that do like these things? Does that make it a good choice?
I for one am extremely happy after watching the gameplay video at least 10 times through, and just this morning having watched it in the 800mb high res version. I am very pleased with the graphics, the look, the feel, and the awesome power of both classes.
By your logic, Blizzard has made a good choice.
My point here is, if you don't like something, you can't say it's a bad decision based on your opinion. You have to back it up with FACTS.
However, I DO agree that if they bring back the necromancer, some/most of the WD's skills will bleed over. You are very right. But my thoughts are that they are not bringing the Necromancer back. In a video I watched of a D3 dev, he mentioned the necromancer as if he wasn't in this game.
Lastly, yes, I remember Witch Doctors in WC3. It was like 2am and I had a hard time remembering every class/thing that crossed over/shared games.

a lot of people dont like the witch doctor because it sounds uncool, like your some spiritual healer from a south american tribe rattling turtle shells filled with beans and waving a totem around. and form what we know of real witch doctors they care little of hygiene, tangled long hair and a layer of dirt on their skin. the fireballs where actualy fire bombs im guessing the WD mixed some flammable substance in little coconut shells or something and throws them like a grenade. either way necros where more emo and cool with their bone armor and white hair but w/e i just hope blizz dosent make WD OP just because no one plays them.
I love the witch doctor. My only problem with him so far is that he's too... twitchy. He reminds me of that Crack-Head character that Dave Chappelle did on his show.
Aye, it seems as though the poor witch doctor has an early onset of parkinson's disease.

Glad to see it's not just gonna be the same old D2 classes and I hope there are some more surprises on the way.
