The Witch Doctor will not replace the sorc class whatsoever. They hint at it heavily by saying in the gameplay video that the "Witch Doctor is a master of DISEASE and FIRE."
As we all know, sorc is Fire/Ice/Lightning. It's very possible they'd recreate the class based on Ice/Lightning/Earth or Wind.
But this is pretty good evidence that the Witch Doctor class is not a master of all elements, and thus leaves the caster class open still.
I dunno. What if they just have 3 classes, 1 of each specializes in 1 element. WD has fire, 2 others have ice and lightning. The druid did have frost in d2, and their is that concept art that looks alot like a druid.
Ranger - Ranged Weapon Mastery (fire a bow or javelins like a machine gun!), Traps (MK style!), Pets (lions, tigers, and bears oh my!) - physical damage based
Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic
LEAP ATTACK!!!!! PLAGUE OF TOADS!!!!!
SLOW TIME!!!!!
Blizzard is really throwing a curveball with these classes, they want them to be classes you've never seen before. It feels like they are gonna transfer over 1 more class, then the rest are going to be completely different.
I don't think anyone questioned that. A mage/sorc/whatever is a no brainer. The debate was whether or not it would 'replace' the Necro, that's another thread. BTW, that's not "proof" by any definition of the term. What you present is not yet even a theory, it's a speculation.

Sorcs and necros are completely different. What your angle?

Wow, worst first thread ever mate, no offence but it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that witch doctor will replace necro and not a sorc, the summons, curses kinda gave it away.

I was basically saying the same thing the second poster said. Whoever speculated that the WD would replace the primary caster class (mage/sorc)? That doesn't even make sense. Maybe it was some debate I missed, but I did catch the thread(s) about the WD replacing the Necro or being very similar to the Necro. That's something that can be discussed. But comparing a mage/sorc to the WD is totally pointless. Apples/Oranges

you probably saw my post in a different thread then. this is all originated from the many times they have explained how the wd was going to have a fireball which later became a firebomb. what other class do you know that would have a fireball?

In DII several chars had a fire based attack
Assassin:
Wake of Fire, Wake of Inferno, Fire Blast and Fists of Fire
Druid:
Firestorm, Moulten Boulder, Fissure, Volcano, Fire Claws and Armageddon
Amazon:
Fire Arrow and Exploding Arrow
Necromancer:
Corpse Explosion (Dmg was 50% fire damage)
Paladin:
Holy Fire
EDIT: And obviously the sorc
So, who says there cant be two or more chars with a fire based attack in DIII?
"Ahh, fresh meat!"
- The Butcher
So the necro wasnt definitive right? because every game has a necro. mages are way more common.
