Well i do agree with the massive damage, but then again they have massive def to beable to ward off horde of monsters.. so a bit more balanced if you think about it * no offence*
Except defense hasn't every reduced DMG in diablo, just how often monsters hit you.
The easy solution is just to divide the dmg done pvp by a constant.
As for p2p, I don't think you need that ensure constant updates from blizzard. I mean, valve updates their games about once a week.
Well, i think Diablo would be less effected by ladder pvp if they didnt get armor that is just like the ones peopel grind hours for. The reason pvp effects wow is because the gear you can get ok gear for free, and people will spend hours raiding and not get one thing they wanted.

i totaly agree, they could also change the damage/stats when pvp is on.
EX- they couldnt do it in d2 because if you where hostile and your stats where in pvp mode a monster would rape you. But when you start a duel, your stats drop then you fight and when its over they go back.
The arena idea could go either way, but i really love the fact that you can run and hide in the big maps while pvping in d2.
Arenas is waaaay to WoWish not to mention its probably the most annoying thing about WoW anyway, why would you want something that is annoying in an annoying game in Diablo?
Maybe like a server that is PvP based, but not arenas...
Blizz already said they will try to minimize or do away with PKs.
Arenas will allow for fighting when you want to. They could do random placement to avoid gearing for certain classes. They get rid of lvl 1 looters.
Maybe they could even show your win/loss ratio and grant you points base don the opponents you defeat. Like a ladder ranking system to let people fight their way up.
Hardcore arenas.. dare they? It would be fun to see these with loot allowances mandatory.

after reading through this post i have maybe a small suggestion which could possibly work. they already have it set up in d2 where they have ladder/non ladder characters. the ladder characters were offered ladder only drops which could not be found in non ladder games, but at the end of the season could be traded to those players. in d3 they could possibly institute a pvp system like this where when you create your character you have the option to make him pvp or non pvp. the pvp characters get the option of getting special pvp only drops that at the end of the season can be traded just like anything else. to all the replies i will most surely get saying "its not fair they get different drops in pvp only" they have already done this in d2 with the ladder characters and it has all seemed to work out just fine. the non ladder chars were still able to trade for the ladder only drops after the season was over and nobody bitched and moaned about it... if they wanted to complain all they had to do was make a ladder char and they had just as good a shot as the next guy at finding a special item.

This idea would needs some tweaks. Maybe pvp type rewards would grant say +30% damage bonus on an axe vs players. This way the pvp items don't get too crazy for killing monsters. That should keep the softcore people happy.

that would be a good idea, im not against it. all n all none of actually know what is gonna be put into the game, its all just fun and speculation. its fun to come up with new and crazy ideas

I would love to see arenas in D3, or else just a zone that is for PvP. I never really liked PKing, so if they can do away with it in a fun way like arenas I would be all for it.
It's an excellent point. The reason I wanted the time limit, was make it as much about skill, and as little about grinding/farming as possible. The best solution(to the problem you mentioned) is cut out the best items, and increase the number if mid-upper range items. And tweak it for every round.
An alternative would be set a cap for the level of the character. say, 45 for the first round, 60 for the second, and 80 for the last. You still would have to tweak the drops.
Items are the most important aspect of the game, why it cant play a key role in pvp as well?
You're idea seems a little utopic, you say it will prevent farming>skill but it's just a matter of time till every class has it's cookie cutter build, and from there, it's all about who has better gear, and those who got luckier in the weeks of lvling would still have an edge, even if they remove godlys. And if they only leave shity item drops, them the players would have trouble surviving in hell diff.
IMO, Blizzard should give us the option to create a arena game(no acts, no monsters, increased player limit and a huge battleground(s)) it would be like a big market, where you can trade, chat, bet, duel, whatever. And of course, add some sort of pvp rank/ladder.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
i loved diablo 2's pvp, but i think it couldve been even cooler with arenas. i definitely want it to be different than the cramped arenas in wow. just a little bit bigger, room to breathe.
add arenas, but also keep the old system. the rewards will just be ears or w/e because the high ranking players wont want to lose them trophys of a kill
as for hardcore: NO
dueling for "life" is what its all about.
