As far as I can tell, I've checked most of the information resources available on Diablo 3, and while I may not have read every post in every thread, I've seen quite a few, and haven't seen anything dedicated to the subject of camera views.
We know that the world of Sanctuary will be rendered in 3D as has been stated, and that we can tilt the camera angle to a lower elevation. However I've watched all the gameplay videos and it's never been demonstrated if we can rotate the camera, nor has it been confirmed or denied - at least in the articles I've read. By rotate the camera I of course mean doing a 360 degree view change, or indeed any degree of change to the angle. Obviously this feature would be not only of practical benefit to gameplay, but would also be visually far more engaging, and add a lot of depth to the game. What presently keeps my hopes up that is that in a few of the screenshots there appears to be a minor change of the angle of view on the same landmark occasionally, which suggests some sort of movement...
So, I was curious to know if anyone has any information on this matter. Again, if I've missed some obvious mentioning of this detail elsewhere on the forum then I'm sorry for starting a new thread.

I hate rotating cameras/views, it forces you to constantly move it around so you can see in front of you. I do not think they are going to have it rotatable.

Thanks, I've been reading more transcripts rather than watching the videos, which could perhaps have been my failure. In any case I'm downloading the interview now.
Am I the only one who finds it perhaps a tad disappointing though? I know that D2 and D1 didn't have it and all that, but there's no need to get too sentimental; some sort of progression is necessary, especially after so many years. Furthermore, SC2 seems to have implemented the feature. I just find there's no negatives (except, I understand, the time required) in doing such a thing. Not only would it look good, but I think view changing is extremely useful for control; you don't need to use it if they don't want to of course, but frankly I think the feature has been of huge benefit to all other games (rpg and rts especially) so it'd be a bit daft for Blizzard to be too far behind the 8-ball. Sure, they have a lot of loyal fans, but general marketing needs to be a concern too, and isometric isn't exactly going to be feasible forever...
Does anyone else find this to be the case, or am I just a bit too progressive in my thinking?
While I'm all for games changing to keep up with the times (I'm pro respec for instance) I feel that in this case it's a matter of art direction (in otherwords I agree with what the guys in that video say) and that leaving it that way is fine as the feel of the game is largely going to be built around it.

I believe having the camera in a strict isometric view is the consequence of the game engine. You will notice at some points of the gameplay video, the arches fade out when the character is underneath it and fade back in when the character walks away from it. Now, if you were to have a rotatable camera and still have those fade outs, you will need to ray trace to that segment of the wall to figure out if it needs to become transparent. Now if the camera was isometrically fixed, this fading in and out will only requiring knowing the character position, which is computationally much less expensive.
I think the camera being fixed gives the developers an easier time making everything easy to see at all times. Personally, I don't have time while I'm fighting to spin the camera in D2 and from what I'm seeing it's going to be 10x more intense with D3. Also, it keeps with the traditional feel of Diablo which made me a very happy camper indeed.

Just for the record, I support the current direction of the art style.
