Well my suggestion for a cannon/gun that shoots spells is based on going with what the world has.
A magic cannon type of weapon?
That'd be kind of cool I guess.
I don't like the idea of guns in Diablo but I've also came to terms with the fact it is possible. The guns could have came from Xiansai which seems to be Asian influenced. They could have gun powder and things like fireworks for a while.
I still don't like the idea, but it could work lore wise and mechanics wise.

Twenty years isn't enough time to make a gun when they haven't even invented the rocket, or discovered gun powder.
On the other hand, a device which can fire spells in a magically heavy setting is completely plausible.
Except we haven't seen alot of the world.
I only saw hammers and anvils in A1 and A5, does that mean that only Westmarch and the Barbarian place (Fuck, can't remember the name) can only have metal? Of course not, that's insane.

Errr didn't Act 2 and 3 have anvils?
Edit:
Act 2 no anvil, Fara has a smithing hammer though.
Ok, so then A1, 3, and 5 should have metal, but A2 and A4 should not have metal, according to the logic shown here.
Actually Act 4 had the hellforge for demons.
Anyway I get your point it could of came from any other place. Though if cannons have been invented I still think it'd have been in the last 20 years. That's pretty big news.

It may of been big news. But we wern't around during the last 20 years... Who knows what happened during said 20 years?...
Twenty years isn't that long considering the isolated view we had in D2. While we traveled all over, for the most part we only visited 4 real places where humans thrived. There should be a greater variety of people in D3 so it is plausible someone already had guns but news didn't reach us in the D2 story line.
I personally think it would be very fun to have guns that could have bullets that are magically enhanced. I always felt that was a key element missing from bolts and arrows in D2. Why not let ammo be altered and enhanced as well? A poisoning, exploding, zombie seeking, blessed bullet sounds cool to me.
umm.... guns wouldnt be that bad it could just be like a unique crossbow or something that attacks slow and does loads of damage... they do whatev they want with uinques lol
No way will they be present, the argue may be if they should or would?
I think the argument right now is if they COULD. Which it seems about 50/50 they whether could be appropriate for that time in Sanctuary or they couldn't.
If they came from a land that was secluded and not many people visited and were created in the last 20 years then it's possible.
That's beside the point. When I play a medieval fantasy sword-and-magic game like Diablo, I want to really feel like I'm in another world and era. Any kind of gun ruins that. Besides, the early canons were so ineffective and dangerous, what's the point other than ruining the Dark Age feel?
...Maybe rockets (modified fireworks) and large canons (for castles, large ships) would be okay.
But I fear if they introduce handguns they might introduce more advanced technology into the game, and just having guns means we'd be in a historically different timeline - I don't know what repercussions that would have
Because historically accurate firearms are so much more unrealistic then a bow that shoots every 0.2 seconds right?
If you want realistic get rid of the magic and the ias and fcr and all that. Bring back the slow reloading of bows and crossbows, and make sure that you cannot hold 350 arrows in one arrow pouch.
You missed the point completely. In fact I don't quite know what you are talking about.
I've noticed this seems to happen a lot when someone posts multiple arguments/ideas in a single post - so I'll keep this simple:
If hand-held guns are in, it might be fun especially if the new Archer class comes from that Asia-inspired island and is the only char that can use it decently (with a skill tree dedicated for it).
However the downside is Diablo III will lose some of its Dark Age feel. (Except for fireworks/rockets, gunpowder is much more modern than anything else D1, D2 had.)
What is that Dark Age-y feel worth to you, the players?
something gimped like guns would have to have a whole class (or at least a role or few dozen builds) dedicated to them to match the magic our nephalem are sneezing left and right, so magically enhanced bullets sounds like a great idea Syrii.
What exactly is the Dark Age-y feel encompassing, silisquish? Lots of games with that feel have been thrown out my window in frustration, but some games survive only because of what i think you're referring to. Is it a haunting, dark feel? Something quietly creeping through the back of your brain like a nightmare waiting to be born? Or are we talking about the feel of a bunch of berserkers bashing into each other with swords that makes you see red?
As far as that first scary, on edge thing, resident evil still came fairly close and it focused on guns. None of the feel lost. But that red vision, heat of battle thing, that would take a serious hit from guns unless only one class used them.
sound reasoning. Oh, my bad, i thought I saw some there. Ah! There it is, right between the post that said 'go play pirates of the caribbean' and 'go play pirates of the caribbean'. That's great researching, liquid. Yeah, whatever has the traps should probably have the guns

That's what I mean it had to of happened within those last 20 years or so. News that big would of reached us in D2.

You don't like the idea, we get the point, it doesn't mean it's not possible for the Diablo world.
