Seriously, can ANYONE READ?? We are not talking about a 9mm glock or a 10 guage shotgun, we are talking about goddamned historically accute guns. Jesus fucking christ.
We may as well be discussing shoulder mounted rocket launchers and chain guns, everyone assumes so anyway.
I mean it shows a picture right on the opening post of the hand cannon. Has for a long time now.
Yay for short swords even though long swords are 10x more powerful...
You really are an idiot.
Um, short swords are 10x more powerful than a long sword? You ever seen gladiators in rome? All they use is short swords lol. A long sword is great if your a magical barbarian that can swing it hard. Or a magical barbarian that can swing 2 short swords fast.
Point is, the barbarian is not going to make the gun fire any faster, more powerful, or more accurate than an amazon would be firing a long bow. A long bow in real life, well, how do you think the english took so much territory in the old days? longbows friend, longbows.

I like the archaic (as in primitive) quality of Diablo. Guns, cannons or otherwise, would absolutely ruin it.
In our own history, battlefield/siege cannons weren't used until around the 10th century; and small arms, beginning with the flintlocks, weren't designed and used until the 17th century. This is not saying that there weren't any predecessors, but guns are hardly considered archaic. I think that repeating crossbows, which date back to around 400 years BC, and blowguns are about as far into guns as Diablo should ever get.
Short sword = only useful in formation dumbass, since it can be used as a thrusting weapon with interlocking shields
In open combat, longswords are infinitely better.
Did ANYONE suggest that the barb would be a specialist in any "guns" in D3? No. So your last comment is truly retarded.
"English took so much territory in the old days"...
Yes, the longbow was a great weapon AT THE TIME, since it could fire further than any other bows, but you know what, the English too a lot more territory when they had guns, thats right, the British Empire, suck on that.
Seriously though, why no to guns solely based on being "underpowered" compared to a bow? A leather cap provides less protection than a steel helm, yet both are in D2...
Come up with a half decent argument before deriding something next time...
For how strong hand cannons were back in the day, you would have to stand 3 feet away from someone, wearing nothing but cloth, for it to be affective, and even then it would miss just miss. How would that go through a magical shield, plate or mail armor, Would it go through heavy leather? Possibly, it i find it strange that kevlar nowadays can stop a modern pistol bullet, but not a high powered arrow. So what is a hand cannon really going to do in the diablo universe, vs a magical arrow from a longbow? Whats next, magical hand cannon bullets rofl? Theres no place for it in the diablo universe.

I'm going to explain this to you, as I have done to others in this thread, in ways that even one as ignorant in history as you can understand.
The gun, pre-civil war, was a totally inaccurate and clumsy weapon. In comparison to a common hunting bow it had less range and less a chance of scoring a kill in the hands of one man.
However, the strength of the gun was not in it's ability to out-perform the bow and crossbow, it was the fact that you could train one-thousand peasants to fire a gun in formation for the same cost and less time of training one-hundred men to use a bow in combat. This started more lords fielding lines of cheap gunmen, and slowly overtook the use of the bow. With the gun and cannon now the primary ways of fighting, people looked for better ways to kill with a gun. Longer barrels proved more accurate, firing mechanisms that were faster than the flintlocke.
Rifling and semi-automatic pump rifles didn't even exist until before the civil war was over. A gun in Diablo would be an un-rifled, single-shot, flintlocke that could hit the broadside of a barn only if there was no wind and you were standing within 10 metres.
Edit:
If you cite Wikipedia as a source, you've already lost your argument. Go to college or pass highschool, you'll find out that they will not take citations from Wikipedia.
Thats how far the bullet will go, where it lands when it hits is completely another story. So while you shoot one of those at my ranger class, and miss by 15 feet, it will take you 2-3 minutes to reload, while my longbow arrows is already sticking out of your arm, and the 2nd one already coming at your forhead. Have you not seen the new rambo movie? Compare his skills with someone using a hand cannon. No chance friend, sorry.

I'm not going to spend half an hour in the library searching for quotes to back me up fucktard, yes I do if I'm actually doing a freaking paper, but this is a forum.
As for your entire post, while it may be historically accurate it doesn't provide a compelling argument as to why guns shouldn't be in D3 in basic form.
Complaining that they're too underpowered or whatever? Yeah, and a freaking Bow can kill Diablo as quick as MAGIC?
It's a MAGIC bow.
Also, this is a pretty good reason for why an arquebus is unwieldy in single combat:
Anyway, crossbows were unwieldly in the middle ages, yet no one minds them being able to shoot at over 2 shots a second in D2...
Magic arquebus would need a lot of magic, for the powder, ball, and gun itself.
Now, I could see the idea for a gun that fires magical spells. Like a cannon of fireball, or cannon of glacial spike. But those might be on the overpowered side and eliminate the need for a mage class.

If you want handcannons in the game go make a petition for it. I'll be truly shocked if it gets passed 100 people.

I was referring to your "this is diablo, guns aren't welcome" argument, not your silly little petition.
As for seeing how many people wouldn't mind guns, just look at how many people have said yes in this thread, without even a petition. I'm not going to set up a crappy petition just to prove that you're an idiot when you do such a good job on your own.
but theres only like 12 people in here that want it out of likr 44 pages rofl. The people that want it are the same people that keep posting over and over. ROFL.

LOL, riiight. go make your little gun petition and see how far you get. Prove me wrong, put up or shut up.

That's beside the point. When I play a medieval fantasy sword-and-magic game like Diablo, I want to really feel like I'm in another world and era. Any kind of gun ruins that. Besides, the early canons were so ineffective and dangerous, what's the point other than ruining the Dark Age feel?
...Maybe rockets (modified fireworks) and large canons (for castles, large ships) would be okay.
But I fear if they introduce handguns they might introduce more advanced technology into the game, and just having guns means we'd be in a historically different timeline - I don't know what repercussions that would have
My appologies for the lengthy post. Alot of stupid things to reply to.

Can we ride in a hummer with a 50 cal mounted on the top of it also with our "hand cannons"?
Maybe Arnold Schwarzenegger can make an appearance in the game as well dressed as the "commando"?
That would be really CooOoOL if when fighting diablo he uses "hand cannons" on you and rocket launchers on his shoulders also would it not?
Seriously guys, that would just be so CooOoOOOooOL ?? rofl.
Yay for hand cannons even though Long bows are 10x more powerful and accurate. Hurrayzumz, YaY!

I agree. And we can do the same with Bows, because a Long Bow would do way more damage then a hand cannon of the same era.

Just stop right there. Just stop. If you want realistic speed of firing then you have to make bows reloading not take 0.2 seconds. That's just goddamned bullshit and hypocracy right there.

Nothing wrong with hand cannons acting almost identically to crossbows in D3 in my opinon, just adding a bit of variety and showing that larzuks idea took off.

If you want realistic get rid of the magic and the ias and fcr and all that. Bring back the slow reloading of bows and crossbows, and make sure that you cannot hold 350 arrows in one arrow pouch.
