I highly doubt Blizzard will incorporate guns as a class of weapon in Diablo 3. They've said many times they want to appeal to their longtime fans, and I'm sure they realize guns would displease us.
However, I don't see a problem if they create a unique ranged weapon that's basically a gun. Something called Larzuk's _____ would fit with the OP's observation... maybe it would ignore target defense, but have an absurdly slow attack speed? I wouldn't put it past Blizzard to do something like that.
But guns as entire class of weapon? I very much doubt that.
You people need to read. It's not a gun, but a "hand cannon." Of course we wouldn't bring out AK's and take minions hostage! Just a basic idea of a cannon shrunk down.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
hmm guns or any sort of modern ranged weapon would deteriorate the feel to diablo. I think one of the most exciting things about playing diablo is that you almost feel like you are there (i guess its an escape from modern reality). Guns would just destroy that feeling and ruin the fantasy. Not that its a terrible idea, but it would ruin diablo for me.

Alpha... Right after your post...

Alpha... Seriously, they don't understand that when you say "gun" you are not referring to modern assault rifles... At this point we should ignore anyone who talks about modern assault rifles...
The notion of guns is entirely plausable guys. Larzuk had possible inspiration.
If you play Diabo 1 you may notice that Katanas are present. This is an asian weapon design. Then Splint Armor in Diablo 2, which is a type of asian armor. Then you have Xiansai.
Here are examples of asian themed weaponry and armor in D1:

it does sound asian...for what i can see it can translate kinda into...sai is a weapon, xian has alot of meanings, from salty to string to an immortal...or meaning fairy, sage or wizard. or one seeking the elixir of life...interesting...
Evidence that futher suggests that firearms are plausable, there is an added asian element into the game that is not discussed, Asia had flame throwers and gun powder, as well as missiles for a thousand years before the time that Sanctuary is themed after.
If Larzuk is suggesting such a weapons he must have gotten the idea from somewhere.
And again.

if it is in any form of chinese its gonna be based on the character. but it prolly wont be string or salty.:D
sai is also an Egyptian deity upon further research, God of Fate - determines how long someone will live and weighing of the soul
your idea of resurrection is sounding rather impressive...elixir of life + god of fate + immortal...
This is all taken out of context, we were speculating what Xiansai stood for and I brought up Diablo and his rebirth. It's somewhat relevant in my opinion.
Alright punk, time to go feudal on your lazy head: the topic is about the plausibility of primitive firearms like matchlock muskets in the game, not assault rifles/shotguns/pistols. And the root of the discussion is that Larzuk, the Harrogath's blacksmith smith in Diablo 2, had the idea of making something like a cannon.
I bet your did read only the thread title and then immediatelly posted your useless "go play HG:L comment; read a bit before posting or GTFO.

Hand cannon, gun, boomstick, etc. It's all the same thing so NO! Won't happen. We don't want or need them in Diablo in any form. Isn't going to happen.

This is a good cultural point. Obviously the world of Sanctuary has many cultures (which we have through various acts) and some Asian themed weapons are indeed in the game. Perhaps cannons could see an entrance.
At this point we just have to remember D2 was developed almost a decade ago by Blizzard North, an entirely different company, whom I am sure had much different plans for the sequel. So Larzuk's hints at new technologies may not come to fruition.
You people do not read even after two pages of telling you so.
Not everyone has time to read 27 pages, but I did read the last two (as well as the OP) to see where the argument was at, and I fail to see your cause of frustration.
It'd be nice if some Mod would go through the whole thread and delete the nonconstructive posts. But that's asking too much. That would probably reduce the size of this thread by half.
I'll try summarizing most in the first post sometime this week.
I understand the idea of the (possibly) Asian influence bringing about pyrotechnics and possibly more focused weapons like muskets and such, but...to get down to the crux of it...and be quite cliché:
It just wouldn't feel like Diablo.

It's time to welcome the other 80% of the color wheel to a Diablo game.

Please, leave the guns out. They do not have the Diablo "feel" to them. If you want guns, play Hellgate London.

I think the name of the thread should be "Handcannons in Diablo 3? Maybe?"
That way if people post about guns from then on it can only be blamed on their own ignorance and not misleading titles.
