It might be the witch doctor (comparisons to necromancer) but it will probably be that one class that other games dont have (if they have really unique classes)

"And the Evil that was once vanquished shall rise anew! Wrapped in the guise of man shall he walk amongst the innocent, and terror shall consume they that dwell upon the earth! The sky shall rain fire, and the seas will become as blood! The righteous shall fall before the wicked, and the lord of creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell!"

I don't think Blizz works with an 'iconic' class in mind.
Besides, what does that even mean? Ask people what the iconic class was in D2 and you'll get responses for every class, everyone has their own favorite.
Druid by far. It was the one class i remember playing with on D2. It was just a fun class to play with you know. I really hope they bring it back. BTW, WoW copied Diablo on the Druid

"Waiter, waiter, could you come here. I think you got some WoW in my Diablo. Could you take it back to Blizzard and fix it for me please."
My favorite characters are the Druid, Necromancer and the Barbarian - These classes seemed very iconic to me, and very, very well thought out. I hope they are all in Diablo III.
So far the Barbarian has been revealed as one of the first 2 classes shown... 3 classes left to announce.. hopefully we can get some Druid and Necromancer action going on.. but it seems slim for both since the barbarian has been announced, and a druid is just (in lore) a barbarian that lives in nature. And... the witch doctor seems like a necromancer from most of the spells shown.
Larry please dont crush my hope. The Druid was so fun to solo with. You just put all your points into Direwolf (the summoning kind), Health Vine (i think), and those little orbs that buffs everything and then you buffed up your strength and stamina and then you get the most awesome solo army in the world.

The Necro was the iconic class of D2 mainly because he was the scariest and most badass class. Of course this is a matter of opinion, but the fact is that Necros somewhat incarnate the spirit of what Diablo games are all about, death. That's why you will find in most of the Diablo novels at least one Necro if not more.
Besides they are the protectors of the Balance and they serve the being who incarnate Sanctuary itself, Trag'Oul.
With the Necro gone, who will carry on his legacy. Which class is going to bear the lore of Diablo?
This game needs a WIZARD. I'd also love to see a Ranger as long as all of his skills are utilized. I don't want a sorceres with her cute spells, I want a Wizard that will shake the entire room and collapse it on zombies. Staffs that would incinerate anything in its path. Really unique magic items that do new and unique things.

Biolord, that is exactly what the Sorceress was about. A magic class that was like silly-putty but could rape face at range. I don't know whether you played the Sorceress very much but you just described her.

I played her, not enough carnarge for me. Think Sorcoress that has turned to the Dark Side.
How about a spell called Crushing Hand where a giant magical hand grabs its target and totally crushes it, you hear bones snap, blood squirt, and the creature wails its death knell.
How about a Staff of Incineration that releases I white hot furnace that burns off all of the flesh off anything in its path leaving only the burnt skeleton behing which falls to the ground and breaks apart.
well if there is an iconic class. the worst thing that could happen is having like 70% of the game's population choosing that class as their character. that ruins the game. they MIGHT have an "iconic" class, but blizzard wont make that too obvious f'sho. its best to have a good balance in all the classes. hopefully therell be more than 5.
I think the Barbarian could very well end up being D3's iconic class. Their whole purpose - to protect Mt. Arreat - has been compromised and it'll be very interesting to see how the new lore for them plays out, what they have been doing and what they must do to continue.

I suppose you could argue the role of Assassins, hunting down rogue Vizjeri, being more important than people give credit for. Since the Vizjeri who often went bad summoned lesser demons, they were tipping the balance and bringing more forces of the Burning Hells to power in Sanctuary.

Which class will carry on the legacy of the Necromancers and bear the lore of Diablo?
Necomancers (how original), Sand druids, Ninjas, Samurais, idk you tell me...

If your insane, but still sane enough to know it, are you insane or sane?
