I don't care what your opinion on the graphics are in terms of artistic value, but stop comparing the game to the Warcraft franchise because it really does look similar at all.
I do agree that the textures need to be more defined, and more detailed, but I am 100% sure that it will happen as the game progress's over the next year or so here. Look what happen to Starcraft (and you cant be sure that the graphics were heading that way in the first place or if the community pushed them there).
That's fair if they tested. See I would also shut up if Blizzard, in a grand post, explained why this slightly stylized look was needed for technical reasons (like only the top 20% of the computers would have graphical capabilities to play it), and they needed to compromise so that everyone had a chance to play it.
But if they changed the whole feel of the game just so that a couple of Chinese WoW-gold farmers can buy XX number of copies, I would be pretty pissed (like 80% of computers can play it). I just want a good explanation about the technical issues so I can get educated. I want to be able to appreciate the compromises they made between graphics and gameplay.
They mentioned they went through at least 3 visual redesigns. Why don't they reveal them to the community? And after all, if you do all that testing without the community's knowledge and understanding, you take a risk like they did here of a little fan backlash.
They clearly said they tested other options in one of the interviews and some of the options were doing the game with D2 artistic approach, but in the end they said the only thing that worked is the current look, they found it to be the best look that fits the game.
Two things are causing the Problem:
1-Many fans don't know about this, or doesn't like the current look and can't be a little patient to know how things will progress.
2-Blizzard didn't reveal anything about the previous builts, probably because they were convinced the current one is the best after all the testing and different versions they did during the past 4 years.
So if only people would be more patient and Blizz would just respond somehow things could get better, but neither seems to be happening
Well, I don't mind the inside much, myself However, the cute Bunnies and colorful trees Outdoors are so Inappropirate with all the evil Present.
This argument is really not true, they gave enough reasons to why things are like that.
-20 years has passed ( enough to change a lot ) and people forgot everything that happened which means they world had no signs of evil left at all.
-It is a forest in mid-day during autumn, there is no other way to imagine it, that''s how it is going to look like, the colors are very precise and match real life, and rainbows are a natural phenomena, just as natural life is.
-That evil you are talking about is merely starting to return, it was absent for 20 years, it makes sense that there wouldn't be any clear signs of evil anywere.
I can't believe people are still arguing about this !!?

Could you possibly snivel and suck up to Blizz even more?
People have a right to express their oppinions. What the hell is all this Blizz "only have the right this blah that" you are on about?
The Starcraft community spoke out against cartoony shiny graphics...and Blizz changed it. They can change this too. Hell screw them if they don't but they can't force people to play their cartoon vision of Diablo...no matter what "right" they have.:D
They justified that change quite well in the interviews, what is it that you are missing about that ?
And nobody is forcing you to play anything, if you don't think that this is the Diablo you want you can simply look for other alternatives, you did voice your opinion and they didn't show any sign of response, and probably won't because they are already past all that argument years ago, they are ahead of all that we are talking about.
Just think about that
-Would it have been Diablo if they changed the gameplay completely and gave you the looks you want ( dark and gritty but no random loot, no random dungeons, no random mob, no character classes ), No it won't be Diablo, and nobody would have bought it ( including me )
-But an artistic change to the game is really not a problem at all, the majority of the complainers are going to buy the game anyway.
Now what really defines Diablo as a game ?

I Agree Diablo 3 HAS a Gothic Feel, but it's NOT scary/creepy enough, though.
Diablo was never scary, trying to say an isometric game is scary is really funny, it was eerie/creepy at some locations indeed, all the dead bodies and monsters that pop out unexpectedly, etc etc
But guess what, we didn't even see 1% of D3 yet

I think Blizzard should really sit up and take notice of what the fans want from this installment of Diablo.
There are currently 2 petitions online and the most current results are:
500 FOR the more vivid, contrasted, WOW, "colorful" graphics
and
20 000+ for the more grittier, shadowy, more Diablo-esque graphics
That says a lot in itself.
Personally I never played WOW much as I did find it too cartoon-ish from the start. I was crazy about the entire Diablo series and played them all ad nauseum and always found the graphics imersive and very skillfully done.
I think what Diablo 3 is missing is possibly the influence that Blizzard North(Flagship) brought to the table. Looking at Hellgate: London you will notice that gritty, shadowy factor in its graphics that I feel should be apparent in Diablo 3.
Blizzard must remember that this is Diablo 3 and NOT Worl of Warcraft 2.
Go to any... ANY... game website that has a comments section, and you'll see that they don't mind the new art style. In fact, most of them think the petition is bollocks.
Yeah it's pretty ridiculous they won't give blizzard a chance to show some new stuff. Instead of providing feedbacks, they go and make demands through a petition >.>
What you guys dont get is that all of the whiners culd end up geting the game
DELAYED (for 'art reboot')
or
CANCELED (like ghost).
Is that what you guys want? Its what the whiners seem too want!!!:confused::confused::confused:
If a company Cancels a game, just because majority of fans of the game feel the game ISN'T Dark/Scary/Creepy/Eerie enough, then this company really doesn't care about the True quality of the game. Blizzard is BETTER than that type, I hope...hopefully WOW HASN'T Corrupted them...
Diablo was never scary, trying to say an isometric game is scary is really funny, it was eerie/creepy at some locations indeed, all the dead bodies and monsters that pop out unexpectedly, etc etc
DON'T argue with me, the First Diablo wasn't Dark/Scary/Creepy/Eerie enough, cuz YES, it WAS!
Any fool could see that Diablo 1 was Eerie as Hell and it may NOT give you nightmares, but you sure feel it's chills!
I Can understand not every fan are fans of Diablo because of it's Chilling/Eerie/Spooky environments, but I sure as hell DO! And, that CAN'T be taken away, period.

You know, I AM one of the first here to actually thought about that, BUT for the Entire duration of the game, No.
It has to be like this, in the beginning, but get worse in the later levels.
I don't care what your opinion on the graphics are in terms of artistic value, but stop comparing the game to the Warcraft franchise because it really does look similar at all.

The textures in the gameplay video were too bleak and plain, the outdoors looked like the characters were wandering on a giant hand-painted picture.
All I ask from Blizzard is to not lie about using WoW's graphics engine.
What's most disappointing is that instead of thinking of something new and wonderful, they took an old idea from another one of their games that worked and slapped it onto a new game. But, we can thank the new Diablo fail team members for that.
Blizzard has lost their ability to be somewhat unique in the industry, recycle recycle recycle.
FIRE THE ENTIRE DIABLO 3 TEAM, hire some chimps, they may do a better job.
I Can understand not every fan are fans of Diablo because of it's Chilling/Eerie/Spooky environments, but I sure as hell DO! And, that CAN'T be taken away, period.
There is a huge difference between Scary and Eerie/disturbing, many adults find nothing scary what so ever about an isometric game with colorful monsters and dark dungeons, only the occasional sight of dead mutilated bodies added that sense of disturbance not the darkness, and it wasn't that often as people are trying to make it sound.
We only got to see probably less than 1% of the game, why can't people just wait to see what the of the locations will look like
that CAN'T be taken away, period
Said who ?
Look, I found someone at Bnet forums who said something quite interesting i had to quote him
It is not blizzard's job to make us happy. Think of it this way, when J.K. Rowling writes her next harry potter book, does every little kid in the world send her mail saying "zomg u didnt do this, wtf you suck, im not buying your book bcuz i liked the way u werded tings in deh last book! wy rnt u doin it that way in the next book!!!?"
Diablo is much like a playable book, you're playing through a story, and Blizzard is the storyteller, don't tell the bard to change their story, let them tell it.
That's sums up exactly how i feel about all this
And this is for the Anti-bunny people
There were bunnies in act 5 of D2.
Rainbows ( refraction of light over water droplets in waterfalls ) and bunnies ( natural life ) only mean one thing, REALISM
Quote from the article.
Nihil novi.
The topic creator should learn to read comprehensively.
Exactly, This isn't anything new. They talked about Diablo 3's art style alot during the WWI and said how "Color is you're friend" with a 26min long video. That had nothing to do with the petition or the controversial art direction becuase it hadn't happened yet.
We only got to see probably less than 1% of the game, why can't people just wait to see what the of the locations will look like
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can't you see they are still working on the game, why don't you people chill out and wait for the next news update
Oh yes I am eager to see New areas, hopefully def. darker!
Plz Read my comment again, your realistic evil D2 had bunnies in Act5 because it is natural to have animals in the wilderness, only difference is that it had shitty grahpics compared to D3, go figure
And that Evil you talk about has been dead for 20 years ( think Germany or London 20 years after WW2, won't they have bunnies and rainbows, seriously  )

"This place is thick with the stench of ghouls"

Just to get some facts straight, all the following is derived from the Art panels with the Devs of both SC2 and D3 art teams !!!
Blizz only made/finished two 3D games until now, and in them we clearly can see they have a distinctive unique 3D style ( that some might not like ), those two games are WoW and WC3 ( with all their expansions ), it is a coincidence they both happen to be from the same universe, which gives a false impression that they do that style for WC only, but no, that's their approach to ANY 3D game they will make ( WC related or not ) , and people are supposed to respect that.
Blizzard never and will never make realistic looking games with over used reflection, bumpmaps and brownish/grayish tones because they look completely dull, unartistic and boring, that's simply not their style at all, their style in ANY 3D game will be stylized, based on use of color, use of hand painted detailed textures, and this style will be used in EVERY 3D game the will make, simple as that ( clearly said by the devs during their art panels in WWI )
So don't expect Blizz to be making any realistic games any time in the future, it is a whole company artistic vision and approach to have stylized games, ANY 3D game they make will have that ( That was said during SC2 art panel too )
So the only thing they will do is try to strike a balance between their stylized art style and realism, and that what D3 does perfectly ( and that will be even more clear when the game development progresses, if only people would wait )
