I think I see what Blizzard really wants to do here. They obviously want to make the mood of the game much more diverse by applying colors to different environments: Some can be dark and creepy like dungeons or very hostile territories or eerie places, and at the same time apply brighter more cheerful colors to like some friendly places/towns or less hostile or casual places. And they're probably doing this because D3 is going to be much more vast than the previous Diablo games.
The additional color is alright, but the washed-out textures and lack of contrast is what Blizzard should work on.
LOL dude, those pics in your signature section: The 'how it should look like' pics can easily be possible to make by just adjusting your monitor settings or even the ingame settings that adjust brightness and some other different stuff, you'll probably be able to tweak it yourself to that dark, eerie diablo look, don't worry.

When you watch it in motion it looks great. These edited pictures really seem stirring until you hit play on the game play trailer. At least that's how it feels for me. It wouldn't mind seeing a video version of these edits. I have not played games due to the washed out look (Call of Duty being a game that I refuse to even try for this reason). So I can identify with the washed out issue. Though it's acceptable in this particular nature, I wouldn't mind a slight change.

Hunter_Wolf deserves a pat on the back for his post. I am tired of reading all the written tears from the 'too much colour crew.' I'm expecting to begin seeing some poetry in relation to their heart ache. Maybe then Blizz will notice, and post these 'heart of darkness ryhmes' in their new 'idiots on Battle Net' section.
personally I wish "Hunter_Wolf" would stop getting quoted. Really disappointing seeing him justify something as being "not cartoony" with bright vibrant pictures of an autumn forest, GUESS WHAT people don't want Diablo to look like that, the pictures he posted would be well suited to having bambi pop out from a bush or a few fluffy bunnies hop across the scene. Not very suitable for demons and undead.
I think people are taking for granted what Kieth Lee brought to Diablo fan's attention.
Contrast is very key in creating atmosphere in games. And I think it would be a good time to reiterate the fact that it's been 20 years since the Prime Evils roamed Sanctuary. I think that contrast is needed, and they've got a good start on it.I'd also like to say that I highly doubt that the art style is going to stay exactly the same. I also trust that the fan base is passionate about how they've known and loved Diablo since the very beginning.
If Blizzard is true to their word, I believe a compromise will be made between the contrast and the pure gothic that the fans have grown to expect from the series.
People are excited that "diablo 3..." is coming out. lets hope its going to live up to its name, or else u'll be excited that another world of warcraft is coming out
thats what people r afraid of, and thats why were speaking up before its to late. "We want a diablo experience not a wow experience"
they spoke up about SC2 looking to colorful and stuff, and they listened. Im sure they'll hear us out too:thumbsup:
The shoulder pads look like they came straight out of WoW

Sorry to disappoint you, the image contents clearly indicate that it is the night time in D3, why would they be lighting a fire in the middle of a rainy day !!!!?
Unless it wasn't already night time before the rain started, right !!!
Also by checking the area outside the radius of the light of fire you can see it is quite dark.
Simply said, 3D games use a lighting model completely different from 2D ones, and also pitch black looks ugly in 3D and should never be used, not to mention black is not a color to begin with.
There is nothing cartonny about the game, that's only in your head, it is far more detailed and realistic than both D1 and D2
Stylized =/= Cartoony .......... for God's sake

There is nothing WoW about the game, they are both completely different games, i don't know really were are you getting that WoW experience thing from.

Starcraft 2 case was justified well nobody disagreed, Diablo 3 is a completely different case, and i hope they completely ignore you petitions because they really damage the game visual style they built the whole new grahpics engine around.

Get rid of the shoulder pads.
Enlarged shoulder pads hve no direct connection with WoW, it is a bulky barb armor, what do you expect, paper thin armor, go check the heavy armor the barb wore in D2 and check the render pics of it before you whine about the shoulder pads.
Gears of War has soldiers large shoulder pads Warhammer universe has soldiers with large shoulder pads
Both are not even slightly cartoony, your argument is really pointless

I said to get rid of them. Please, read what I say before making such a silly statement. They look absurd, not because they are large, but because of how they are done. They look tacky.
d3 totally looks cartoony, u gotta be blind not to see the similarity to warcraft.
Can you go to the previous page and find my post, it is supported by the blizzard dude that said it. You'll see that some of the game will indeed seem cartoony to ppl that whine that its not dark enough.
