After reading a thread about how much people agree and disagree on the new inventory layout about items taking up one slot irrespective of their size and showing only an icon image of that item seems to me to be worthy of a poll to make things a little clearer to determine which is the winning vote for the D3 fans
So far people say they either like the old system , are happy with the new system , or the odd few feel that the new sytem could also have some improvements ... one of these improvements in particular that i also strongly agree with is for when you hold your mouse over the item icon in your inventory or right click .. another window will pop up with a more detailed view of the item , maybe even with the possibility to spin the item around with a full 360 view enabling you to see any gems or runes added to it etc .. maybe runewords would appear as text along the handle or blade of a sword etc .. kind of like around the ring in lord of the rings .. just an idea .. but i'd love to see some detailed views of those sexy weapons , pieces or armour and just about every item D3 has got to chuck at us .. anyway .. before i cannot control my excitement for this game anymore .. lets get on with the poll
The 5 Choices will be;
D2 Inventory - Current Version
D2 Inventory - Modified*
D3 Inventory - Current Version
D3 Inventory - Modified*
D3 Inventory - Agree with my choice**
* - If you agree with the Modified choice please leave a post with the details of your modification ONLY .. lets keep this thread clean and tidy and simple for and D3 developers to read .. dont flood it with conversations arguing about how much you hate the WoW baggage sytem or things you disliked about the old D2 inventory etc
** - My Choice is to have the inventory as it already is BUT :
1. when you hover mouse over an item or right click it brings up another window which allows you to view the item /weapon in full view
2. possiibly to have a full 360 view of the item/weapon
3. gems add glow etc and runes add word text to an item etc
4. also to stack all items such as potions , gems (of the same type, not size/level ie perfect gems stack seperate to chipped gems etc) , runes etc
(of course if there needs to be a limit to the stack size like there was with scrolls and keys in D2 before you need to start a new stack .. then so be it)
i dont really like the idea of having weight limits. reminds me too much of Oblivion and i hate the thought of having to leave stuff behind cause otherwise i cant move. Either oldschool or go the known and safe way of WoW (dont bash me) and have a slot for each item (with limited slots in the bags).
It looks to me like the current inventory system is sufficient to work out well, I certainly don't enjoy the idea of the weight system (Lame in any game if it stops you from moving at normal speed), but I pretty much always think that it can be improved. Best case scenario, box comes up as you highlight it, you can have a little arrow in either direction on the bottom so you can turn it and look at it, have some special animation effects for different things, that sort of thing.

I would have to say the new D3 way but with item weight, meaning the more STRENGTH u have the more you could carry. Also having more WISDOM would allo you to resize you existing bag into a larger one.
With modified one i think we should keep the tetris inventory items and maybe adding a weight factor to the game
No no no no no no no.
Inventory weight systems suck, and having a weight system would be especially redundant if the tetris inventory system is also used. Keep the inventory as simple as possible. I like it the way it appeared in the D3 gameplay video.
why do you need graphics for the items in the inventory when they're designed to actually show on the character?
I've been checking the gameplay video again and it looked like there were additional bag slots in the inventory. I liked how this worked in WoW (which was the first MMORPG i played) and i think it will work pretty well in D3 too. Remembering how pissed i always was when my inventory was full (especially with all those charms after LoD).
Yeah I like the bag systems in wow, makes it more convenient, and in any game I've ever played completely hated the weight systems. Keep it the way it is I say.

but anyway, i really dont see a reason to use this old and very unpractical system we had so far.
every item type will have its own different icon (as it had before - just smaller) with different stats when you mouse-over (again, as it used to) and i'm guessing the uniques will also have completely different icons (whats new? they'll actually look much different on the characters too!).
Simple as that. It worked for every game that was released lately, why shouldnt it be implemented in Diablo III?
I have played several games , just as most of us have . I actually like having a Cumberance Rate and bag system . where one item fills one slot regardless size . Also incorporates the stacking of certain items , potions , keys , some quest items , etc .

With Honor and the Guidance of Tyrael , lets do the deed !
A much smaller version of the diablo 2 tetris style inventory. Eliminating a weight factor, but allowing more space then diablo 2 allowed without overcrowding the screen.

1 increased size
2 add new inventories like pouches and pockets
and
3 the more you carry the less faster you run/walk
