reading the G4 site, it mentioned that Item drops have been altered so that you only see items available for YOU to pick up, and your partner sees a different set of items on the ground, that only HE can pick up.
i dont know about the rest of you, but personally ive always loved the battle for the fastest click to get that unique ring, and im going to miss it terribly.
thats one thing I hated about wow, there was no compitetion in the item drop (besides Rolling for stuff, which imo was lame)
also, if we drop a weapon out of our eventory, does it become viewable to everyone to see or just "Dissapear" like in wow?
I also will miss the mad dash. The former system had problems, especially for casters far away from the action, but I think those problems were worth it. I mean, if you are slow, you don't do as well as those who are fast...is this not natural? This just seems like forced sharing, which I never properly learned =). It will at least take a lot of getting used to.
Noone said in the panel that you will only be able to pick up only what you can use - people are getting confused over this. They said that everyone from the party can pick up his own copy of the item. That's it. Fair and square. When you pick up your copy, you don't see the item anymore because you can't pick it up twice, thats normal.
Just like how Horadric cube and staff pieces dropped for everyone in the party - except that there won't be five uniques appearing separately (that's why it's called unique ;)).
Actually if u bother to kill the boss rather than wait for loot you don't deserve anything?
this way it seems that people who do nothing will get loot even easier. all they have to do is stand back until the boss is dead and wait for their turn or what have you to collect their bounty.

Wel just unparty them and kill by yourself.. where do u need extra people if they aren't doing a thing? They will figure out what they did wrong.
FFA drops are a must for diablo. It was part of the excitement. It is bullshit that casters/ranged characters are not fast enough. You just need to get close at 1%. Diablo is not a game for secure loot/trading. It's hell FFS, not Disneyland. You need to get screwed sometimes to feel the excitement of your life when you get that item. Some may think it is not fair or wrong, but wait untill you play it differently.
It would be awesome if the items were launched a bit from the corpse so melee didn't have the advantage in FFA. Not that it was a huge deal. Bosses should probably be Individual Drops since killing Baal was quite a sight to behold. But it was still fun. I'm a big fan of FFA still.

I doubt the same item would drop for everyone... Dropping 5 (or whatever the group size will be) of the best item of the game at once would severly drop that item in value. I took it as every will get their own seperate loot.
In diablo 2 you could never get items while killing bosses in parties, not because you weren't fast enough but because of all the loot grabbers out there, people talking about the excitement of trying to be the fastest person to click on it just doesnt make sense, click all you want but those grab hax are always gonna be faster than you. If you wanted items you would have to MF for them by yourself, thats how it always worked in D2.

don't forget the people who would stop fighting 10% before the boss is dead and start clicking the ground underneath him even before hes dead.

I totally agree, although I've never played WOW or any other game with such a system. Diablo is like the wild west, which I think is great. Yes, you can work as a team for a common goal, but you can also be greedy and screw people. You can focus all of your energy on defeating a boss, or you can be a shyster and run in at the last minute and snatch the loot. Its a sort of freedom, even if people do unpleasant things. Same for the economy. I hate the idea of gold as the single standard currency because I like how the economy in D2 was unstable, and determined solely by the actions of players (in theory anyway, dupes screwed it up - but if they find a way to stop that...!) It's like securities trading in the 80s, big risk, big reward, some go straight to the top, some sink to the bottom, some cheat and get caught. In an economy maybe not so good but in a video game economy great fun.
~ps: why doesn't the spell checker on these forums recognize "Diablo"?
While we are suggesting ways to handle loot i'll toss out my idea.
So how about the group leader gets to choose which loot style he wants. The choices being FFA or need/greed roll for items of a certain quality and above. The loot rules can be changed from FFA to need/greed at any time, but can only be changed from need/greed to FFA when out of combat. Gold will be divided equally across the party members.
The items will still all pop from the corpse no matter which loot option is selected. If Need/Greed Roll is selected, then items of the set quality and above are locked from being looted and players are able to roll for the items. The winner of the roll has to still loot the item after he wins. The item is not automatically looted, and if not looted after a period of time it becomes available for everybody to loot.
This system would prevent ninja looters to the same extent that many other RPG style games do but would still keep the option for classic diablo loot open. I think it's a perfect compromise, and if you are in a group with a leader who wants to do FFA loot and you want need/greed then too bad find another group or live with it and maybe you'll get lucky.

Im still a little confused.... so if a boss dies and drops a unique, the first one to grab it gets it and no one else gets the item?
i hope once you picked the item, it satrs to behave just exactly how it was before
i love when sataring a new char, play with other people also starting, and we would share items that fits the other better

Haha! that would be awesome, when a good item drops you can call for a deathmatch, and strongest character recieves the item xP. lol
