I don't like that majority of it... But a little fire (a la The Elder Scrolls Morrowind Expansion: Blood Moon) wouldn't be a bad thing. It was believable.

An excess of particle effects on a weapon are just overkill and not cool. I'll never forget the first time I got the lightning effect on my weapon in diablo 1. It was simple, and you knew what it was.
So to answer the question of "Do you like the weapons glowing?"... No... I like smooth particle effects that do the job of showing off the attributes of your weapon.

Well it should be able to tell you the difference between a a normal dagger and a an uber weapon just dropped from Baal in Hell mode unlike Diablo 2 where most looked alike.
I think its cool, but needs to be towned down a bit. Reminds ME of fable, not wow...but then again i dont play wow so i guess i wouldnt know. The only thing is i think fables was more subtle and better.
The glow looks absolutely horrible for so many reasons.
1) it's cheesy
2) you can't see the actual weapons
3) the glowing/fire animation around the weapon distracts from the armor.
4) as someone mentioned earlier, glowing swords look like star wars lightsabers, and there is even a unique called Lightsaber (assuming they will bring back this highly popular item from D2) A glowing Lightsaber would be the end of the game's dignity.
5) glowing weapons fit better into games with a lot of other flashy animations, like the Korean RPG's. But diablo's gloomy environment does not synch with glowing weapons.
6) the subtle tints on D2 weapons looked a lot better and they weren't distracting. Subtle=key.
7) Most weapons have some sort of elemental damage, so pretty much every weapon would have an animation... LAME! If only really rare items had the glow it would not be overdone.
8).........they just look so STUPID AND KIDISH!!!
To a point I don't mind glowing weapons. But very quickly it just becomes too much. It makes it seem like every item all around you is commonly flowing with oodles of magic. As if a person can just walk down a stone path in the middle of nowhere and always find glowing magical things. I like to think of magic in Diablo as more of a scarce thing than in Warcraft.
But it was great how even elemental weapons in D2 didn't need to glow. They were just different colors and you saw the environmental effects as the weapon struck an opponent.

Glowing weps are horrible. Before you know it everyone has weapons with some element which turns out to be all the same end game and you dont get to see the actual weapon model/look. Id rather know and see the new D3 Blood Letter then just another Glowing Lightsaber of butter cutting. Glows may be "uber" when only a few people have them but in the end everyone will and it will be another BUtthurt Jedi Fuck fest.
Also when everyone ends up useing one element over the others. Hopefully they will make the color pink> dominate all to make this obvious
I agree with most of this post. I think glowing weapons are fine as long as they find some way to make the glow rare and not always on the bar-none best weapon, or something stupid like an enchant that everyone will have. I really enjoy seeing the steel of a good weapon design without a stupid common glow.
I'd much prefer to see the detail of the actual weapon, and not a disco lightshow. I think they should reduce the glow on all weapons to a mild dim, especially if it is just enchanted with that property. The exception would be a sword whose blade is completely made of fire or a lightning or something of the like, that is understandable.

Well said. I agree 100%.

Uh, well, I don't mind. It's always exciting to loot some item and equip it, and then find it's all glowy and shiny and whatnot.
Otherwise, if a basic weapon has some lightning attack, don't add the glow, but still let it show the lightning damage animation.
