Erm... is that from a different game or what?
Anyway I have no problem with a darker look but my main questions would be, how would background events and events that happen in front of you appear? Could you still see them clearly?
Like the Assault Beast in the background, or the wall falling down on the mercenary, or a wall that's able to be knocked down. The ghouls crawling up the platform at the beginning. etc etc.
That's the only things I'm worried more darkness would make us miss out on.
Hah, you got me, the lion statue is in there too. I am a 3d artist and yep, sorry to say that it isn't a real game but a 3d render. I will point out though that those are all low poly models with very low res textures and are designed to be game assets and would easily fit within Blizzards guidelines on making it run on old machines. Hell there is barely more poly's in there than 3 of HL2's alyx models standing side by side.

You would completely convince me to sign the petition if by some chance you could show an example of a dark part of the game. Like the Assault Beast in the background. That's the only thing I'm worried about with the petition pictures. Everything seems darker, which is fine for the pictures but what about parts of the game that are ALREADY dark.
I don't like the blue/green lighting but I do want to see things that are happening in the background, foreground (ghouls climbing the platform), and things ahead of me.

I was thinking about doing some more images, and maybe polishing that one a bit so I will take what you said into consideration and probably do ones like you suggested if I do more. However to me the solution seems simple enough, if you have a destructible wall, put a couple of torches on the pillars beside it, not only illuminating it but also drawing extra visual attention to it. If you have a looming monster in the dark, have it pass under a candelabra, or a shaft of blue/green lighting coming from a shaft above, looming in and out of the darkness looks good. If you have ghouls climbing walls place a few strategically placed torches on the walls so they are illuminated as they pass by, but aren't constantly bathed in light. To me catching glimpses or short views of something coming towards me is a lot more un-nerving than watching it steadily advance in full light. But yes, images or even videos would obviously illustrate this better.
However having said all that and that it is possible I am a fan of the light radius, and ghouls climbing walls doesn't work with the old light radius system, but hey I could live just fine without light radius if the environments were at least spooky.
and thanks Blizter, I am no Blizzard dev though thats for sure and that image could no doubt look a lot better, just to get an idea across I guess.
I'm all for a little darkening and definitely getting rid of the blue/green if we can but I don't think light radius would work in this kind of environment.
Thanks for the reply, I was thinking torches would work but I wasn't quite sure about things in the background.

Yep yep, it looks kinda sucky. But if they made that whole area just for the demo.. and the statue was being bashed in it I understand if they didn't really want to put much effort in it.
I so sick of this crap. I do not see what there is to whine about.
This is a gothic Cathedral. I will be pleasantly surprised if more than 5 people here are aware of this fact.
This is one of, if not the most gothic looking buildings I have ever seen. It has actually been lit up so it looks like it did 800 years ago. But it would have looked liked that in the 13th Century.

I think the graphics should be the way it is, like they said they want the game to be able to run on varieties of computer. And i agree with lots of people that it should be a little darker in the gameplay, and true that the game doesn't give much of a gothic feeling, but i am happy with what they've made, if they only could make it more realistic, and darker, that'd be great. And i am sure they are trying to fix the game and make it the best they can, might be a while then before it comes out cuz they r still hiring someone:(
YEah lets the blizzard do their jobs. The trailer is just a glimpse of the game, why do people whines about everything.OH gosh just wait and see what they will come up with.and agree with Qrow, blizzard says: it brings more diversity in the gameplay, otherwise it's all going to look and feels the same.it should be something different.

and here is a gothic dungeon.
Now might I ask why the image you just filled the screen was relevant... at all..
Lighting and shadows are related concepts, pretty much... All they need to do is stop messing around with weird technology quirks and make things the way they would look like in real life...

Simple. Not everything gothic is dark and creepy. Most people here do not even know what gothic means. Many mistake Gothic for Noir. Gothic architecture is not all darkly coloured stone.
If they said "it should be more like a gothic dungeon" I wouldn't have a problem, but they don't. They say "I want it more gothic, it's too colourful." Too colourful?! Your understanding of gothic is sadly misinformed sir. It's a shame.
I just thought you guys needed to see this.
Firstly they are not the same image so I don't really know if you want us to compare anything.
And secondly as you can see by the colour of the dead character's flesh, all that was done to the second image was the Gamma was turned down. If the grpahics are that easy to fix in game, this what are people arguing? Not that the graphics aren't dark enough, as that is as easily fixed and moving a slider along.

It looks like we agree on many levels Elfen.
The first pic was posted as an example of what certain people claim they want out of D3. They say that D3 is missing darkness and creepy candle lit areas so all I did was post an untouched screenie from D3 to show them that they are in fact getting what they are asking for. I mean, those two shots look a lot alike in terms of candle light and dark shadows. They merely have different color schemes. I hope to show people that what they are calling for is already in the game.

I agree I dislike the green/blue lighting. But I don't want to miss the things I mentioned by making everything too dark.
