Meh, Push yourself through the levels then play on HELL and tell me its to Beautiful and colorful >.<. Have you seen the difference with the coloring, darkness, shadow, and the fire?
Most of what you're saying I agree with creepsville. But you can't tell me you actually like that idiotic random blue/green WoW-shit lighting in the dungeon scene at the start of the gameplay video. About 30-40% of that dungeon literally looks like a top-down view of a WoW area, right down to the silly blocky statues (the monsters look evil/dark enough at least :P).
Edit: reading that stupid link in your sig makes me rethink my statement. A legitimate concern about the artistic direction this game is taking is totally different from random whining. What if the art/lighting isn't the only area in which D3 resembles WoW? Then a bunch of idiots who play WoW will buy it, eat it up, and Blizzard will lose what they have left of their true fans. The ones who loved SC and Diablo 2, even WC3, who then played WoW and were sickened by that trash. If this game is anything like WoW in stylistic direction or gameplay, I will finally have an answer to whether this "new Blizzard" (post Bill Roper and North) deserves any of my money ever again. A lot of other serious gamers will as well.
You act like people who play WoW are locusts. You think once they start playing, every serious Diablo fan will quit, hide under a rock, and cry. You dont like the art/lighting direction not because its bright/happy/etc. but because it looks like WoW. I will NEVER EVER stop being a fan just because someone else who likes WoW is also a fan. Please speak for yourself.

No dude, that petition is random, nit-picking and whinning at it's worst. It's telling Blizz that you know Diablo better than they do.
I'm not saying that people shouldn't voice their opinions/concerns but that petition and those silly photoshopped screenshots are taking it too far.
Let's say that we know for a fact that the D3 level of the tombs has "WoW lighting" in it. Ok,...so some games may both have specific parts in which they have the same type of lighting,...alright... so my question to you is: Yeah? And? So? What?
If two movies share a scene with the same type of lighting it's because they are probably going for the same mood from a technical standpoint. I don't then discount one movie as being "not true to itself" just because it has the same lighting in a certain scene as another movie that I don't care for.
I like the eerie green lighting. It isn't "WoW" lighting - it is fantasy game lighting (as explained by Blizz themselves).
I never said serious Diablo fans will quit because WoW players will flock to the game and muck it up or whatever you think I'm implying. They'll quit because it may be the kind of game that WoW players would flock to. There's a huge difference.

I'd prefer a distinct, obvious difference in overall style between the Diablo and Warcraft universes. A line in the sand of art or whatever. That kind of lighting obviously wasn't invented by WoW. But it was employed by the people who made WoW to produce a certain setting, in the context of a larger, overall WoW style. I believe that style and setting has absolutely no place in the Diablo universe.
Sorry for dp

They see that the environment is much more colorful. So what?
You dont think they mean places like act 4 when saying colorful, or do you?
They are probably talking about the 'outdoor' environments. Not including most of the dungeons/caves and act 4.
NO, they said the game was more colorful than they recalled and had rich cultures in it.
It wasnt meant that way, just an exaggerated example.
That's been the problem with your argument all along: It relies on hyperbole to get it's points across.
But the lighting in the dungeon is almost 'fancy' in some ways, and that could affect that 'feeling'. Its a dungeon dude...
It's an old tomb - as in people used to come visit their dead loved ones there and built it with nice candle light so they could navigate it.
In D2, armors were more realistic.
You may look great in big armor, but the barb armor in D3 is just too bulky.
Thats not just taste, doesnt it bother you if the head of the barb is always between those two things and cant even move?
Nope.
Yes, monster-free places colorful and happy, corrupted dungeon and landscapes dark and scary.
NOT colorful AND dark feeling dungeon. (But not "just grey" of course, i mean no bright colors.)
Ok. Whatever. I think it looks good. The blacks and the misty looking eerie silhouettes in the background are awesome to look at and add to a gloomy atmospheric feel.
There is nothing wrong with colored lighting, it's just low quality.
The lighting in D3 is low quality?

This is exactly what the problem is! The tomb does NOT look like its lit by candle light. last time i checked, cadles dont produce neon blue lights across your entire pov! If it had small flickering light radii around where the candles/torches are, It would have look great.
First of all, it seems like there is an outer independent light throughout the dungeon. E.g., the dungeon is lit with something else before the light from actual torches, lamps, etc., is applied. Second of all, the light is very unrealistic, it's dispersed, and I can't help but wonder where the light comes from.
Those are real-life images, which means to simulate them in a game is very hard, which is why I can't really blame DIII for having a dispersed unrealistic "green/blue hue" all over the place.
Ok - if even one more of you people says that there is NEON LIGHT blazing through out the tombs I'm going to cut your face and put you out on the street.
There isn't neon light anywhere in the tomb. That is hyperbole so that you have something to complain about. End of story.
I think the light never came across to me as weird unless I sat there and overanalyzed it like some obsessive nut. My first impression was that it was creepy in those tombs. That was it. I submitted to the fantasy they've created. The head of Art Direction even stated that they intentionally made the light UNATURAL in order to better immerse us into the world. The light doesn't fragment into perfect, fragmented lines intentionally they said. I have to agree with them on this one.

Gee, nice. I just started looking through the trailer again and what do you know, most of it looks like there is some seedy neon sign hanging just off screen miraculously illuminating everything, guess you should come cut my face now. Green does work well as a creepy color but not if its bright green that illuminates everything more than the actual lighting in the area.

<--- see that? That's not a winking face. That's your face after I cut an eye out.
I'm sorry but after all the explaining I've done on the subject I think it would be a waste of energy to actually respond to people who have no concept of what NEON color is. I'll show you though, lol:
I am sorry, but common, don't be silly. You show a picture of an incandescent tube and a picture of D3, go outside, go clubbing, have a look what a pavement below the light looks like when it is illuminated by neon lighting then come back to me and see why your wrong.

You would think that neon light on pavement looks like the tombs in D3. Totally different shades of green for someone who isn't color blind (of course I did cut out an eye). I like how even visual proof isn't enough for people. Shows us where their minds are.

Oh ffs, do you know anything about color? yeah maybe if the pavement was painted white you would get the same hue, but the world is full of browns and grays and diffuse lighting unfortunately for you.

Amazing. How unfortunate it is for me that the world has browns and grays... <--- LOL
Are you drunk or something?
Just stop playing dumb as admit that the light is not neon in shade and the level is not neon in shade either. Stop wasting time supporting hyperbole arguments.
Sigh, unfortunate because you seem to have some aversion to natural colors in a realistic environment?
The light isn't directly neon green in shade, if the whole place was lit by neon green lights then it would look a lot more, well, green. However there is yellow and blue light there too, it all adds to the color, and the term neon keeps getting used because its so damn bright and so saturated.
The game needs to be darker. As far as it looks right now, its to WoWish. The colors are bright and a bit featured like WoW looks.
The Diablo series had alot of gore and deep dark colors. If you look carefully at the Diablo 1 and 3 environment, there really is no bright vibrant colors, but more deep dull and dark colors. Diablo 3 has alot of bright colors and have a glowish color to it. The way they situated the character profile for switching in weaps and armors, they made it just like wow. A bit disappointing, but it happens.

For instance, I totally don't mind green light from gas lamps, but it's supposed to be short range and misty, kinda like this: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2185/2280168157_2fbde1cfc4.jpg?v=0
Same for blue lights, which are usually magical sources, crystals, etc.: http://www.pcmus.com/Dive-Photos/Canister-Dive-Light/Blue-LED.jpg

Where is that green hue coming from? I see YELLOW torches but it's almost as if they are not releasing any light at all.
