Yep.. they're just spikes. Nothing more and nothing less... with the name given, "Teeth of Diablo."
True that man.
If I'm not mistaken those monsters are in the Gameplay Trailer, so we know they are mobs, which means those are not literally Diablos teeth, unless he regrew an unlimited number of them just for these cultists.
Diablo died, remember? As in, his body was left behind and his soul was sucked in to his soulstone, which the "hero" took and smashed.
A smashed soulstone is a released soul, is it not? The Prime Evils predate the soulstones which imprisoned them, yes? So destroying the stones means having the Three Brothers' spirits just as free as they were before the Horadrim captured them, after having their 'spirit forms' banished to Sanctuary by the Lesser Evils.
Quoting the original lore: So it came to be that there was a great revolution within the Burning Hells known as The Dark Exile. The Lesser Evils overthrew the Three Prime Evils and banished their spirit forms to the mortal realm. The demons Belial (the Lord of Lies) and Azmodan (the Lord of Sin) fought to claim rulership of Hell during the absence of the Three Brothers.
I have long thought that Tyrael has been lying, as per Belial.
TYRAEL: Rip out those stones I had the Horadrim trap the Prime Evils in aeons ago and smash them at Hellforge.
HERO: But won't that--
TYRAEL: Go. Smashy smashy. <Smashing ensues.>
TYRAEL: Thanks. Now excuse me while I shatter the Worldstone.
HERO: But won't that--
TYRAEL: Baal corrupted it.
HERO: What does that even mean?
TYRAEL: Shoo, mortal. The Archangel needs to smash.
I'd prefer to like Tyrael, so someone please fill me in if I'm missing something about the soulstone business. This is just how it seems to me.

‘I'M NOT LEAVING UNTIL WE ALL HAVE AIDS!’—The importance of calling them ‘mercenaries.’
Those are the monsters in the gameplay vid that he said could randomly get possessed.. So I doubt that Diablo himself is back, but his soul is most likely back.
Interesting... diablo soul corrupted tyrael(which was weak after the worldstone exploded), so now tyrael(aka diablo) is trying at all costs to revive diablo. Holy fucking shit tyrael is the final bosss!!1one
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
When Diablo died in Diablo II, his body was partially burnt to ashes, and his spiritual essence was sealed back in to his soulstone (which was later destroyed.) I see no reason why Diablo has to be back in Diablo III, because some demons or cultist fanatics could have just picked his teeth up after he died. Bones and teeth can survive intense burning, whereas flesh cannot.
i think they could be his teeth picked up after he died, but i don't think he's back It's more likely his teeth would bear some of his power enough to twist a cultist into a lesser demon.
Odds are that you've left the thread already, but the purpose of the Soulstones (for the Prime Evils, at least) is to effectively channel powers from hell into themselves and Sanctuary, avoiding the barriers or suppressions put in place.
The Prime Evils learned to control the soulstones for this purpose; otherwise they'd be considerably weakened while in Sanctuary. Which they were, at first.
By shattering the Soulstones and releasing Diablo, Baal and Mephisto from the soulstones, the Prime Evils have been set free, but they are no longer able to influence Sanctuary in the same manner.
That is what I was saying, yes, they're now free but unable to take form, as they were before the soulstones were introduced. But they must still be able to influence the world in whatever ways convinced the Horadrim/Tyrael to use the soulstones in the first place.

Presumably (on my part) Baal corrupted the worldstone to channel the powers of hell in the same manner, but on a much greater scale. To avert a war heaven would no doubt have lost (due to the power of Sanctuary in the hands of the evils) Tyrael was forced to destroy the worldstone.
Of course, shattering the Worldstone also (supposedly) shattered the barriers between the worlds, the things that keeps angels and demons alike weakened. But the invasion everyone thought was readied didn't come.
My own personal guess over why this is so is either because of the civil war going on in hell, with the Prime Evils only recently returning to restore order or because they have been engaged in the Great Conflict; it simply not having the time (or opportunity) to spill over into Sanctuary yet.
Fair enough. Not enough to ease my suspicion of Tyrael's motives, but it's nice to know there is an alternative.

Dude, ok I don't play WoW I did when it first came out then I lost faith. But, I believe Blizzard knows SC and D2 is only successful because the community thats involved with them. I think they would more or less willing to bend over backwards to please D2 and SC customers because we are the backbone of Blizzards future.
I don't think they care, you have to remember that the people making d3 aren't the same people who made d2. The people making d3 are the same type of people who took over WoW from the original creators, money hungry developers. They are in this for money, its pretty obvious from WoW. They just added all the content they could think of even if it had nothing to do with lore.

If SC2 and Diablo 3 were both to tank, you can bet the shareholders would tear Vivendi a new one.
I thought activision bought blizzard a few months back.
But they must still be able to influence the world in whatever ways convinced the Horadrim/Tyrael to use the soulstones in the first place.
They had physical form and such before the advent of the soulstones. The Horadrim fought Baal and Mephisto in the deserts outside Lut Gholein and defeated them there, and then used the soulstones against them. Diablo was fought similarly in the area of Tristram, I believe.
The only difference is that the soulstones were containing their souls instead of a living, corporeal host. This kept them from really doing anything, since they had to wait until dedicated followers or stupid adventurers came across their stones, from whence they could corrupt and enslave the person well enough to have them jab themself with the stone, thus freeing the formerly trapped spirit in to the host. This is observable from the story of the Wanderer, the use of Tal Rasha's body to make up for the diminished soulstone of Baal, and the use of the shattered soulstone of Mephisto to corrupt the Council Members.
So, basically, they were not much different before the soulstones, in my belief. The only thing that changed was that through the intervention of the soulstones they were able to take down key members of the Zakarum faithful, namely the whole of the east and nearly all of the west (especially Khanduras and the events leading to the corruption of King Leoric and Lazarus, Archbishop of the Faith in the west, I believe it was), Tal Rasha of the Horadrim, Izual (as a side-effect of the whole thing- he took the brother of the Azure Wrath to lead an assault on Hell and failed), destroyed the town of Tristram, the powerful warrior from Diablo I, decimated the whole of the north around Mount Arreat, and finally, managed to corrupt the Worldstone (which was then destroyed by Tyrael since he had no other choice- this may or may not have been the Prime Evils' original plan.)
Now that I look at it, the stones basically just functioned as catalysts for their plans.
I'm going to be pissed if the Diablo Universe gets fucked up because of money hungry assholes.
Blizzard should pull through for us tho.
To my current understanding, since it will not be an MMO and will be on Battle.net, it will be free.

Thread pretty much dead...
