I just feel like there is no need for a monthly fee when it comes to Diablo. The kids are gonna get in no matter what...even if there are no game cards there are plenty of parents out there willing to fork out a monthly subscription with there credit cards. I do understand your reasoning but it just would not work and I feel like this needs to be said, maturity levels really sometimes do not go with age totally. I have met many "14 year olds" in online gaming that are just as or even more mature in some cases compared to some 20 year olds I met...and it really goes both ways...so that is something to think about. Then there is your reasoning that we would have to pay a subscription fee to get updates and patches and quality maintanence of servers. I disagree, although I only somewhat enjoyed the game, guild wars has no subscription fee and they constantly come out with updates, patches, and add plenty of new content through the updates...and they constantly keep up server maintanence. So in the end....I say lets hold on to that 15 dollars and take a trip to 7 eleven for some slim jims and energy drinks and prepare for a bunch of D3 all nighters and have one good "HELL" of a time while doing it!!!
hey OP i have a better answer for u on the age thing. since parents will give there kids what they want and since there is no way to stop them. blizz and others can make seprate relms/rooms/ whatever its called to keep the kids out or like on b-net set a room to private. thats something i love bout D2 that WOW didn't have and i wish it did sometimes. my other answer to u is after WOW next expansion it wont be as supported as greatly as it is now. thankx to the merger thats it for WOW. and do the math on that one if everyone pays 15 a month and there 9 million users.......... theres more then enough to keep it going but the head of the companies don't want to go any further. So making it P2P wont affect the patches or the fixes.

my sentence structer sucks and so does my spelling but thank you for tell me that doesnt make me care any more then i did before:P
look at it this way.... 15 bucks is 50 cents a day over the course of a month... thats chump change... and with teh new battle.net 2.0 coming out i bet it will be like a few games out there and have free play for some people and for those who want the little extra like certain areas or items or abilities to create a clan or guild will be able to pay a small fee and obtain these... pay to play is very minor
Monthly Fees split the player base and cause many arguments among subscribers and Non-Subscribers, it's not a MMO, so why the hell would you stick a monthly fee on it, Hellgate London already tried the monthly fee model and it failed miserably and now their closing. If anyone has enough brains in Blizzard, and I'm sure they do, they will not add a monthly fee, and laugh hysterically at the people that are asking for one, and point them off to WoW.

I do agree with you on the fact that pay to play is minor...but the original posters post was more or so about how to keep out younger people and the benefits of a pay to play...although he or she did suggest a lower monthly fee...but like I said keep it totally free and save that 15 for some slim jims and energy drinks for the D3 all nighters! : )

Paying money to buy the game, then a monthly fee just to be able to play it is outrageous. It's not about who has the money, or if you're poor or not, it's about a personal sense of worth. I refuse to let any corporation rip me off if I can help it.
Oh by the way, it's a video game. No game is worth paying to play IMEO (In my educated opinion)

What is normal? Normal is a concept that everyone or a majority of people are the same or similar. However, we know that everyone is unique. If everyone is unique, then everyone is different. If everyone is different, then everyone is weird. If everyone is weird, then everyone is normal.

.....I agree. When it comes to a game like Diablo there is no need for something like pay to play...and I feel strongly about keeping it that way.
It's not about whether or not people can AFFORD the fees, obviously anyone who can afford to buy the game can afford to pay the monthly fees. That's not the point. The point is it's a hastle, nobody wants to be tied to a gaming contract unless they are hardcore gamers. Casual players who just want to play a bit there and there would be completely turned off by the monthly fee and would just pick up a free to play game... there are thousands to chose from...
I know lots of old D2 fans who would love to give D3 a play, but if told there would be a monthly fee would just get bummed out and say forget it, it's not worth the hastle.
I have a better idea, up the rating of Diablo 3 to Adult Only
....Good call because in order to do so Blizz would have to up the gore content and I am all for that!!! 'Barbarian rips out fallen shamans spine and then stabs another fallen in the chest with the spine' woot! woot!

I been lurcking around this forum for about a week and finally registered. I just wanted to add my thoughts in about this. Read before you flame please.
There are many reasons I would like there to be a monthly fee, or at least wouldn't mind it.
1. Keep the kiddies out. I am tired of 14 year old punks ruining my gaming experience. With a monthly fee, that is payable by credit card not game card, it would get rid of a lot of immaturity and would result in a better game. The game is rated M for a reason. Go watch your bob the builder and leave the gaming to the adults, thanks.
2. If blizzard plans to regularly update this game like wow, then I don't mind one bit paying for the content. It would give extra money to blizz for new enhancements and whatnot. We were all complaining about how d2 hardly ever got updated. Well, why should they when they have no reason incentive to. Added levels, bosses, items, bug fixes, and world events is way worth the cost to me.
There are many other reason however those are the main two.
So I read posts on various pages and it seems the main topic hasn't really shifted from these two points, so hopefully this comment wont be to outdated
1.) Keep the kids out, I'm sure this point has been made and reiterated many, many times during this threads life, but here you go- My Version.
X-box live requires a yearly-or monthly (depending on your subscription) payment. Halo, is rated M. When playing online you run into kids who are less than 17. Their parents buy the game, pay the subscription, and they play. Simple as that
To put the idea that subscriptions keep out youngsters to bed, all you have to do is look at WOW. I played the game for a little while, sure there are teenagers, but there are also younger siblings playing on accounts and of course minors with accounts of their own.
Stated in one plain sentence; Subscriptions and Game ratings do not and will not keep out youngsters to any reasonable extent.
2.) Updates are nice, I'd like some real WORLD events (wouldn't we all). But not at any extra cost. Blizzard updated d2 reasonably well until larger cash cows were created. They make plenty of money with advertising to upkeep -monthly updates- go back to Lod's release date and look at the number of players.. Look at the number of active members on this sight. Diablo2's community dwarfed this sights membership by much greater numbers.
Yet this sight has done reasonably well all things considered.
So- post all your reasoning, I'd be glad to rebut and debate with you about them
