I really don't know how they should handle the death system. I'm watching panel videos on youtube, and one guy just said that they're trying to reduce downtime, gameplay wise, so you're always hacking at monsters (or shopping I guess), so they'll probably make a death system that isn't too time consuming, which is good, but if too little a punishment would be bad. It's a fine line to tread, I suppose...

Ranger - Ranged Weapon Mastery (fire a bow or javelins like a machine gun!), Traps (MK style!), Pets (lions, tigers, and bears oh my!) - physical damage based
Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic
LEAP ATTACK!!!!! PLAGUE OF TOADS!!!!!
SLOW TIME!!!!!
Every death hurts your armour. And after a while you'll have to go repair. My memory is fuzzy since I haven't played Diablo II in a long time but I think thats how it was. At least I do remember having to go repair multiple times because my armour and weapons were damaged/broken and I'm sure part of that was after deaths.
I don't think that's a decent penalty, but I guess it's k for Normal...

The reason I explained it is because someone complained that the way I wrote one of my posts made it sound like I said Diablo II was a joke in terms of death penalty. But since his post made no sense it sort of got into me explaining it to you.
Armour durability hits need to be coupled with EXP loss. Not too much exp loss but enough to make you think before you go into a situation when you might die.

I'm all for the exact same death penalties as D2. Naked corspe runs with XP loss.
Exactly, there needs to be a game that makes you actually think before you go out and get yourself killed.

no it's terrible. Not the worst though. Classic Diablo II death is the only way to go. Hopefully we can still "pop" corpses of naive blokes.

The guy in one of the panels said it wasn't a boss, just a regular mob type thing that just appears like that. Don't remember exactly what was said.
