It has lots of associations with it, but I doubt it does anything yet.
I think someone on here jokingly said if you press it 666 times it unlocks the D3 Demo.
I personally think if you press it enough times you win the ability to go buy a new mouse because you wore out your left click button.
I spent like an hour clicking it. No joke. I know I'm lame, and I was 99% sure it wouldn't do anything.. but that 1% that said "Diablo III demo" forced my hand.
Totally a ridiculous thought though.

Obviously, it opens the secret cow level in real life if you click it 666 times in .666 seconds.
...the Cow King has a .000000000000000001% chance of dropping a Zod Rune and a Time Machine Edition of Diablo 3 in the real life cow level... honest...

That all means nothing to me. Break it down for me
I plan on checking the script in the gem every week till the game is out. If there is any variation I will post it here.
I do this because I love diablo with every inch of my body ( even my pee pee)
The Gem in Diablo II... what does it do? The simple answer is nothing! We put it in to screw with you. It does all sorts of crazy things like sending useless data to and from the server, coming back with messages like "perfect gem activation" and so on. We were just screwing with you.
I did, its on the main www.blizzard.com/diablo3 page
I don't know what it does, but I gotta outie so try to find out for when I get back!!
Get off of here.

"I am Shaolin-Style!"
"Monster + Explosion = Awesome!"
How'd you figure that one out?
Seriously.

Believe me... please?
...
Moo?
Anyway, the script says it does nothing.
It was just something to piss on the newbies.
I LOVE THAT FUCKIN' GEM! ARRGH! YEAH!

Basically, it does the same thing over and over again, and doesn't change after a certain amount of times.
It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.

the faster you click it the faster d3 gets released CLICK CLICK CLICK

That's right the developers own you!
