Ok, i've heard lots about the diablo loot system but its all very vague or just an "its good" or "it sucks" opinion. Can someone explain to me how it works so i can decide for myself? ;/
Since I read your post ive been busting my ass to find this interview on youtube and cannot find it! Anyway from what i heard about the loot system that Jay Wilson said himself is, that they are trying to take the fighting, stealing or who ever gets to the loot first gets it, OUT of the game! For instance you are fighting a boss and when the loot drops there will be class specific items that are for you and only for you! You are the only one to recieve that item. Basically loot for everyone. I find this very vauge tho......what if they are 2 wizards for that drop do they both get identical items?, is there only going to be one wizard drop? Anyways im not making this up ill try to find it and keep you posted I think it was a G4 interview so if you can find it first cheers...hope this helped
The drops are not going to be class-specific. The loot will just be randomly distributed amongst all characters involved in the fight and/or party, regardless of class. This means your loot will be visible to you alone, while other characters' loot will be visible to only them.
For instance you are fighting a boss and when the loot drops there will be class specific items that are for you and only for you! You are the only one to recieve that item.
I think you misunderstood what he says. Yes, he did say that you will get loot and all the loot is specifically for you. Meaning the loot on screen that you see is not identical to what other people see, so you can feel free to grab any loot you see because each person has their own "loot". And what ever loot you DO grab does not affect what is on other players screen what so ever. But that loot is not specific to the class you are playing. You can play a Barb and get a wizard wand or something that does not benefit your class at all.
Sure! I think you never played necro in D2 in random party, when you have to go inside all the mess during fight to be able to loot anything faster than melee classes.
D2 loot system is more ninja style... You play barb and you have nice ping = 85% of all rares/uniques is yours.
In D3 thought if you play WD or Wizard you can easily loot after combat is over.
yeah i like this much better i still remember baal runs most time i did all the fighting whit my hammerdin and then when baal died a big lagg spike and then all loot gone in like 0000.1 sec so yeah thats pritty crap and my inv was like full full so i only could grap 1 items and quess what it was always the crap 1
so yeah i like this new system much better also beqause ppl not gonne just look for items and slacking in combat you can just fight and loot when combat over.
Yeah, the old system was just plain retarded when you think about it. Not that Blizzard expected it to go wrong, especially with the bots and stuff, but seriously. I find it hilarious that some people want to keep the FFA looting in because its some kind of competition.
I think the new loot system is really, really great. I, like everyone else, remember the old D2 days when everyone just camped in front of Baal waiting for the drops and you barely even saw a few letters of the items that dropped (and thats if you were lucky).
Now, everyone gets their own drops. Working together is more fully realized. Enemies die, and what is on your screen you, and you alone can see. It will be different for everyone in the party. Look at the items at leisure, decide what you want in a calm and easy going manner, drop what you dont, and move on .. No more frantic battles to see who can click the fastest or who happens to be in the right place (closer) to the best item.
I think it will also provide some nice chatting afterwards, such as what did you guys get ?? .. Who needs this, who wants to trade etc ...
So, you will be the only one that can see the item when it initially drops, however, you can pick it up then drop it and everyone will then be able to see it? Is that how it's proposed to work?
I can see it now, I will be getting cracked helms and everyone else will be gabbing about the uniques.
Has there been any news as to how magic find will be implemented in D3? I wonder if the mf of the character making the last hit will determine drops for each individual (if only they can see them).

thats funny... the d2 system was great becuase it dominated ppl who sucked at the game. i had a terrible computer, but you just cant suck and you gotta be quick to get the drops... occasionly i would miss the drops b/c of lag spikes, but seriously how many more chances do you think your gunna get for those drops.... probly 100s.
anyone who doesnt want the d2 drop system was terrible at it. but it was one of the defining features of diablo 2.

Best way to go with this is, any monsters that you would get XP from (you are participating in the fight), then your part of the drops will be affected by MF. That is if its on items. If you only get it from SHRINES, it should be for everyone. But they didn't say how it would be.
And yes, you can take it and drop it, and everyone will see it. (and I'm hoping for an easy shortcut so that you don't have to actually pick it up to show it to everyone).
Its all just making sure everyone gets THEIR part of the loot, and also no one can tell you "HEY! GIVE ME THAT MAGE STAFF!", because they have no idea what you got. This does give a good incentive to play with friends and people you trust, that will show you items they don't personally need and not just keep it for themselves.

um ya i like the diablo series drop system. if your a slow nub and cant multi task while fighting and picking up drops then thats to bad. I dont like this individual drop system it sucks and blows. Its called find a group of friends or a party that wont steal your drops. then stick with them and they will let you pick up items. Obviously you are to slow to compete with the pros.
Well for this diablo 3 drop system i am very concerned with. as well as other things they are trying to do with diablo. how will they determine what items drop for every character in the game? how does the system know the number of good items that drop. If one rare drops does everyone get a rare? Does everyone get the same rare? or does everyone get better and shittyer items then the rare?

What the hell is wrong with you guys? You are seriously telling eveyrone that clicking a loot faster than another (which actually means using a program, because some do, how can you compete against that?), its a freakin' "click first fest" which is completely retarded. Its just the silliest thing ever in my eyes that anyone would defend such a stupid competition, and even go and say "OMG YOU ARE TO SLOW TO COMPETE WITH THE PROS". You are a pro loot clicker? What the fuck is that?
This is seriously the most ridiculous thing I have ever dealt with. This is completely... whatever, I have no word I can put here that won't get me permanently banned.

What about everyone gets their own rolls for drop? Thats how it is. Everyone gets the same fair roll on every monster. Its not "one roll per monster and the loot is split".
I never felt any difficult to loot stuff in D2 basically because i was allways in the front lines, even playing a ranged character. However after play other game with better loot system I realize how fight for loot is such a small thing that shouldn't make part in the game list of "stuff to master". Really, theres alot more ways of implementing challenging stuff.
The way i see it, the new loot system is great.
For this fact: When an item is dropped, its for your eyes only (for so many seconds)
You decide to pick it up thinking its valuable, but its not usable to your class/character
Perhaps you keep it to mule it to your other chars, OR you keep for trade reasons.
Amidst gameplay you most likely can trade items with your team mates, so if someone receives a piece of gear you need, they can announce it and you can pester them for it, all during game play.
While the game proceeds you and your team grow stronger, both by character and friendship. Depends if your just a dick by nature...

hes a pro diablo player which requires many skills, one of which is picking up drops faster then you... thats what he ment.
"This is so untrue. Try to make the others that disagred with you inferior is pretty easy (and lame) way of defending your point."
well if its a fact, its a very good reason towards my point.

Everyone getting their own drop is a good idea. However, the size of the drops will need to be decreased accordingly. For instance, if a monster tends to drop 8 items in an 8 player game, then the individual drops should consist of 1 item each. If each player gets an individual drop of 8 items, then you are essentially increasing the items dropped by 8 times. This would result in flooding of the market.
