To everyone saying something about 'more resources' being used for D3 after SC2 and WotLK are released, I wanted to say I don't think it works that way...it was my my understanding that each game has it's own unique dev team, and I'm not sure they just bring the SC2 people over once it's released...like all games it will need further development on patches, (probable) expansions, etc...
I think it's only right for them to release it on this date because:
1) 2 years should be plenty of time to just add in "content" as they said in this interview: http://www.gamespot.com/video/930659/6193139/diablo-iii-interview
check this video at about 2 minutes and 10 seconds, he says it at 2 mins 23 secs, but this video is just worth watching anyways
2) June 29th was the release date of Diablo 2, in 2000. This also means,
3) It will be the 10th anniversary of Diablo 2.
4) 1 year isn't enough time to push a game from alpha to complete
5) I'm HOPING they take 2 years to do it, so they make sure it's polished before it's released.
(also because I want time to save up for a godly computer :cute:, but that's a selfish reason)
Just take a look at WoW. WoW is a HUGE game.. will most likely always be much larger than Diablo 3. And WoW was announced September 2nd, 2001 and released November 23, 2004. That's a very large time gap. 3 years and 3 months until release date. Yes, this includes a lot of beta time and stress tests, but in fact it won't be too much less for Diablo 3.
So I feel it may take 2 years to come out.
DON'T GET ME WRONG!!!! I'm not being cynical here. I want it to come out TOMORROW. But we all know we have to wait. And if I were to wait, I'd like to wait 2 years, because I know that they will have it polished by then. But if it's out in a year, I won't complain and I'd be really happy to be proven wrong on this subject.

I could easily be wrong. Just sayin'.
Good point, but I believe that they mean more revenue ($$$) to use on man-power for pushing Diablo 3. $$$ comes from games being released. Not game designers moving from 1 project to the other. Although I don't doubt that this happens with some games.

I ask you all this.
Why annunce a game, and release it 4 years later?
ittl be out by the end of 09 or half way into 10
WoW was announced 3 years before release, only because they chose to make teh game great. When they announced it in 2001, it looked shitier than Runescape....
If SC2 is any indication it will be at least 1.5 years, since they announced SC2 last year and have heard rumors that will be out sometime late this year, or 1.5 years after announcing it.
I did find the following information on ign.com about the team working on Diablo 3.
Development on Diablo III began way back when Blizzard North was still around and currently the team working on it consists of around 50 people. Initially the game's visual design was closer to the older games than what we saw in the gameplay demonstration. "We probably did three rev[ision]s on the visual direction until we got to this and now we're really happy with it," said Pardo
The announcement of our projects is usually when it's time for that game to be announced," said Pardo. "This project has been going for a while and it finally got to the point where it felt like it's time to announce the game. We kind of have this rule of, ideally, we announce a game a year to a year and a half before the game comes out. That's our theory,
Well they said that the engine is completed and most of the technical things are sorted out. It's mostly about content right now. I'd guess that they have fleshed out the other three classes or however many more there are going to be but haven't finalized the skill sets/animations and all of those kinds of things, as well as physically creating the different Acts as well as tilesets, textures, etc.... which alll look to be a lot more complicated to design to be compatible with the random dungeon creator than DII.
i have to agree christmas 2009 or ealy 2010, i mean starcraft took around 6 months, so worse case scenario, would be january 2010 and best is summer 09 peace im outty

They said the other classes are PLAYABLE already at there office, also the first ACT, and MULTIPLAYER, they just need to add content such as more items and monsters and polishing things out.
Do people really think that could take 1-2 years? Blizzard isn't going to dissapoint with this, I am 80% that this will be out around Christmas, if not my other 20% are on the first half of 2010.
I think its going to be a bit sooner considering how stressed "the game is very advanced" was. Of course... 151 days is a bit soon imo obviously a fake

Nice name BTW, but I still think earlier then later for this one, it just has that vibe to me.
And I want it sooner of course WHO DOESN'T!
