And let's try not to forget.. This game is said to be massive. I mean, look at the friggin map compared to what we're used to. We've had 5 zones out of the, off the top of my head, 30 or so I'm seeing here. I guarantee you'll get what you want.
Remember, Blood Moor started off as grassy and not-too-terrible, but as it progressed, it got worse and worse. The demon explosions and bloody death are what caught my eye anyway. Don't fall too deep into despair yet. It'll earn that M rating.
Characters are not exaggerated/cartoony with bright colored armor.
Even though its broad daylight, it has a gritty, realistic feel of D2.
It could use a few impaled/ dismembered corpses though. =P

D2 looked ''dark'' and ''gloomy'' , because of the graphics, it wasn't originally made to be ''evil' , the graphics made that feel of ''grimness'' and ''darkness'' the dark gamma puts too much strain on the human eyes, no the armor doesn't look cartoonish at all, if u want something dark, not different than D2 go play D2, this is much more fun, u can actually see the details, take a look at this http://i31.tinypic.com/9gkncn.jpg 1 picture- do u obviously think that those cultists made that temple, its logical to have a bluish background 2 picture- there are supposed to be some places that actually look normal, not only dark, yes, there will be dark creepy places, i prefer them too, on the gamma change of the second picture it looks exactly like a D2 screenshot, if u keep your eyes on it for 30 seconds u will notice how your eyes begin to feel tired. Blizzard know their job. After all, not all places in Sanctuary are god forsaken medieval cemeteries .
What in the 9 fucking hells are you even talking about worm? My eyes will get tired? Cultists look better in a bluish environment? D2 was meant to be dark and gloomy but not evil?
And yes, not all places in Sanctuary are god forsaken medieval cemeteries. There are also dark forests, underground catacombs, blood-stained sand dunes, hell gates, fire engulfed towns, scorched planes and guess what: outdoors that actually reflect the destruction that has taken place.
You seem to know a lot about how the game will turn out to be. Stupid comments that it was meant to start as fuzzy and cuddly and end in utter blood-splashing destruction are not only unfounded, but even extremely unlikely because as Pardo said (which everyone likes to citate) that this is the basic atmosphere that the game will be immersed in.
By the way, Diablo 2 wasn't slowly progressing to a gore pyre like someone likes to mention. A short 10 minute level with only a few gloomy features can be hardly considered as a level evolution. EVERYTHING from that point on was all-out horror rated. I have to bitch some more about D3. If this is what we get after they say they attempted two other art styles, then I just don't want to imagine what the previous versions looked like. It's simply discouraging. Please Blizzard, hear our prayers, so that they may be fully answered.

lol it can still easily be a ranger since who said you cant shoot arrows at melee distance xD

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees
I guess you don't want anyone taking you seriously having a quote like this, do you?
Did you not see where it says that I had gained this information from founded sources. I have my good days and my bad ones. The signature is made on a good day, and frankly I don't really care what anyone thinks about it. It's true if you were wondering.

Diablo games really haven't been that dark, go play d2 or look at some screens. The game doesn't look that dark, it just feels dark because of the story/music/monsters/etc
its act 1 they are showing, what do you expect.. act 1 in d2 wasnt all that special. moor-tamoe was all the same stuff. outside and not much to look at. if you want it darker then turn your fucking brightness down when you get the game. and as for the textures looking cartoony... i dont get how d2 floor textures are better then d3 ones.. thats just stupid. you cant exactly copy that same crisp d2 feel with new enhanced 3d graphics. its amazing to me how people can complain after just 2 areas of act 1? honestly..
Even if it isn't I do wish it was a bit more gritty. NOT DARKER. Just more grit, more dark FEELING.
If they could do what they did to that desert in Diablo II, I'm sure they can give the same feeling to all of this brightness.
I feel the same way. I finally downloaded the gameplay trailer and I get the impression that the stuff just isn't finished yet. I know that's obvious, but it looks like the textures aren't completed which could lend itself to further refinement.
Jeremiel, I almost want to kiss you that looks quite sweet.
But the thing is for true perfection they are going to seriously going to have to re-evaluate the whole style. I mean just look at the Bal-Rogs, how they are drawn compared to the image of the zombies.

True? You're sig even said it was rumors. Im greek and i can say that you're sig you had before was full of bs and if you believed it you're gullable as hell.
Btw the screenshots that where made by the OP are badass and are far better then the current D3 ones. You seriously need to make a bunch more and send them over to Blizzard so they can see their mistake. Props on your amazing work:thumbsup:
in my opinion, desaturating a screenshot in photoshop isn't a new art style. I'll admit that the game looks different than I envisioned in my own head, but it also looks pretty awesome in its own right. I'm choosing to get excited by how it does look, rather than frustrated that it doesn't more closely resemble a pixelated 2d art style that, while certainly great and I love it far too much to speak ill of it, is simply almost a decade outdated.
there is no direct translation between the old diablo artstyles and the ones so many of us hoped for, only interpretations.
also, stripping an image of its color does not automatically give it emotional impact. color can and often does have incredible impact on our perceptions of mood and emotion. read up on some color theory, it's fascinating stuff.

Here is what D2's Act 1, could look like in 3d:

I wouldn't be surprised if the gameplay they have shown us thus far is gameplay BEFORE the meteor and evil comes back.
At least, I hope that's the case.

And thats why no one wanted to stay and play in Act 2 . YUCH!
also with act two you went under ground ever quest. It really was a dark act.
