I think Blizz may be trying to give us a big surprise here with D3. A few points to notice.
1) D3's announcement came very long after D2 had been released, it seemed that Blizzard had maybe put Diablo on the back burner
2) If I remember correctly (and I could be totally wrong on this one), Pardo makes a sort of face when he is talking about how Blizz usually releases games 1 1/2 years after they are announced. Kind of sly, like he knows something we don't (obviously) or he knows that Blizz has trick up their sleeve.
Maybe Blizzard decided to do something different with Diablo 3. I have a feeling that they purposely delayed the announcement of the game by 6 months to a year for a couple reasons. To give SC2 its time in the spotlight, and also to shock the Diablo community with how soon after its announcement the game is released.
I believe that Blizzard is much further along in making this game than they are letting on, and they will release it much sooner than the usual 1 1/2 year time frame.
All this mixed in with the photo / video dating evidence and I think we have a good case for this game being out for X-mas or shortly after.
Don't people who work at GameStop and EBGames (type of stores) know when the games will come out? I mean they have to find out months in advance when the stock will be coming in, right?

Well, one thing is certain: Starcraft 2 WILL be released before Diablo 3, since in the WWI the Blizzard representatives said that the "new ad improved battle.net will premiere with starcraft 2".
There was already a similar thread on this subject.

And no. Not always.
They usually speculate.
And if it's close enough.. they'll be given like a month or two ahead of time notice.

Watching 240 guys talk trash about cavaliers is like two retards having a slapfight over a sippy cup.
They'll release Diablo 3 around when Warhammer Online is released, just so it will annihilate them

If he really said that exact quote, then it implies a lot more about the D3 release date than Blizzard would want us to know.
Diablo 3 is probably almost done. They even said the first part of the game was pritty much done. Adding content doesnt take very long if they already have their story. Most of the work would just be adding the content, and balancing skills and classes, and polishing everything making it perfect. Id say give it a year from today till the day they start putting in on shelfs. Although if they deside to listen to the people who want diablo 2 all over again, add a several months ontop of that.

no no no, i use to work for eb games. they know nothing. when you know the release date they know the release date. a lot of the time they put random dates up just to satisfy customers. if i can remeber correctly usually if they dont know its the 2nd of the month.
I personally think that SC2 will be released before D3. It would be fun if they could release it simultaneously, but I highly somehow doubt that. It would mean losing my job because of all the game time
Ok...:offtopic:...anyways...whom didnt argue that SC2 will be released first? WotLK will be released...followed by SC2...then after that would be diablo III.

Those before me shall quiver in my wake as I unleash the fury within!
This isn't mainly about the artwork itself. It is about the fact that we now know that DIII=Hydra. This is the first slip up ever by Blizzard about their code names.
Now what does the name Hydra mean. 3 heads, 3 Prime Evils. Obviously.Except that Diablo now has 3 mouths as seen in the Trailer. Hmmm...
The cinematic is dated 2007. I know there must have been artwork dating back to 04, my point is that the renderings are much farther along than we might have first thought.
EDIT: Ahh, there was one thread about it, but it looks like it was hidden behind several dozen pages. It was last posted in yesterday morning.

A lot of good discussion going on in here. I thought it would have been locked or merged, but I guess the discussion was constructive.
Honestlty, I am pretty sure that all 3 games will come out within a 6 month period. Diablo could actually come out before Starcraft. I mean the hard part is the cinematics and all of the lore and storyline. Once that is all done, the game is pretty much done.
It won't take too terribly long, given the nature that programming the in game visuals for this type of game should be faster than WoTLK by far. And could possibly be faster that Starcraft 2, since there must be much tighter balancing for Starcraft 2.
pardo said that act 1 was the only one almost all playable, that doesn't mean that another act is PARTIALLY playable, and in that case i hope so :(, but also in the interview, they started it with blizzard north and when they moved it to irvine, they decided to remodel it, he says theyve been working on it for a year and a half and got it approved already, mid to 4th quarter 2009 is reasonable
They don't have just the cinematics to work on.. in an interview with Pardo he said they only have Act 1 playable in the office
No, but cinematics are arguably the most difficult and time consuming part of the game creation. Especially with a cinematic that has better graphics than The Matrix, and Beowolf.
Some of you guys underestimate the amount of time that it takes companies to generate content for a game. I'd say that content generation (creating the models, textures, animations, sounds, sprite effects) is the single most time-consuming aspect of creating a game. This comes from first-hand experience at a game dev company. Just take a few minutes to think about how many different monsters, sounds, effects, items, etc there are in the game and you'll begin to realize that this content can take years to create, even after the game design and art direction are nailed down. Just comes down to pure man-hours required to make stuff.
I'm thinking Mid to late 2009 is a decent but still slightly optimistic date.

Does "cinematics" include just the movie portions of the game such as intro, and the between acts video etc?
Or does this include the way that bosses and mobs move around?
