After reading some stuff on the blizzard site i came across the job openings.
Top secret, yes yes, we all know it says "the team behind diablo 1 and 2" or something. But then i noticed they're looking for a "Physics/Collision Programmer – Next-Gen MMO"
then an idea popped into my mind. A hack n slash game where you can destroy evrything?
Wouldn't it be cool to make your barb bash his axe into a wall and make it shattre into pieces?
in other words
You can destroy evrything...
What else would a physics/collision programmer programe?
Anyone else got some nifty ideas for diablo3?

The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn’t...
That'd be pretty cool, but I don't think I would really care about it after the first day or so lol.
You can ofcourse use it in a million ways to affect the gameplay. fire'n a fireball against the tree, either blowing it up or lighting it on fire. etc etc.
cutting it down so that it smashes a tiny goblin ^^
-edit bah you beat me with the gameplay

Like Equinox said...there has to be a limit to the destruction of obsticles of building and such. Destroying everything in the entire map will make the game lag and I am sure will make D3 be with held longer due to the massive programming required to create the scenarios.

Those before me shall quiver in my wake as I unleash the fury within!
and seeing it would be a next gen mmo... taking it to the next level?
I think it would be great for pvp and stuff. Destructible settings for a certain level or something. Think about being in a setting like the act 5, your at the part where you are saving barbs for Quel-Kehk. You can whirlwind through some of them, but imagine thats where the pvp is set, and you are smashing your way as a spellcaster is teleporting around. I think that would be tons of fun.

Unless it affected the gameplay alot and made the game more intuitive.
Your on one side of the wall and your enemy is on other, destroy the wall somehow with a spell and make it tumble on your enemy, an instant death or er flatten.

"Cards and flowers on your window, your friends all plead for you to stay,
sometimes beginnings aren't so simple, sometimes goodbye's the only way."
Would be nice if it didnt take all your memory and machine power; otherwise its unneccesary and takes a lot of time out of blizzard which they could be using to implement more useful things.
The trouble with destructable environment is it's either pointless and a novelty. or part of the game design as well and becomes irritating as you have to destroy stuff as well and just becomes a chore.
Charred spots from fireballs and the like are very nice but really I would prefer the graphics to go into the characters and monsters and direct spell effects.
Charred spots on walls should be relatively easy for Blizzard
I always thought it would be awesome if your hearing went high-pitched when something exploded next to you, adding to the realism. Like the catapults in Act 5, exploding shrines and close calls with meteors
Maybe some more realistic looking craters for meteors aswell
The tree's setting on fire idea is pretty good, but 100% destructible trees would be kind of pointless, the novelty would wear off fast
I think there needs to be more realistic water, even some shallow water you can walk though and it splashes as you walk though it
Puddles when it rains?
Better reflections in the water and puddles?
And I'm pretty sure Diablo II LoD weather doesn't have any wind?
And when you're inside Hell there should be "heat waves", like when you look down a long road in the middle of summer and the heat makes the road look wet and shimmery
The destructible idea is very nice, but it has to be quite advanced or it will just become boring and nothing but a touch to the game overall. Huge fiery explosions and houses shattering into tiny pieces of wood splintering off in every direction is always good though

I don't know how hard that'd be to make, but it sounds pretty damn challenging. Watereffects usually are hard to replicate, and the heat thing is probably aslo quite difficult to make realistic.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
Having that kind of feature for Diablo III might take it off the map though. Having the ability to destroy stationary objects like trees and stuff. I fear the Blizzard will develop this feature soo much that it will throw off gameplay.
Blizzard is smart. And what they have they test and test with to see if it fits, to see how much it might affect performance, to see if it might screw up the gameplay too much, etc.
Don't worry about Blizzard, they know what to do.

I hope so because I am willing to commit suicide if they screw up Diablo III's gameplay, graphics, and overall playing style compared to Diablo II.

For every shadow dies at night.
Not this shadow.

Well, Next Gen MMO, should have something "new" to the genre eh?
I've read somewhere in the job opening page that were looking for Realism? Might be wrong tho.
But ofcourse, evrything should have its limits. to prevent exploiting and so on.
I mean, they're also creating it for WoW WoTLK
"Destructable Buildings"
and seeing it would be a next gen mmo... taking it to the next level?

Thus the reason DarkJay never made it as a character into the final game...
