As I surfed it, I came across this interesting new :
Blizzard Entertainment, manufacturer of the popular Diablo and Diablo II games, is suing New Line over that company’s choice to title an in-production film “Diablo.” Blizzard accuses New Line of trying to capitalize on the title of its game series that has sold over 5.6 million copies and brought in revenues of $103 million. Blizzard plans to eventually create a series of Diablo films. The first, entitled simply “Diablo,” was filed for trademark in April 1996, and the second, “Diablo II: Salvation,” was filed in February 1997. Both trademarks were approved in July 2000. New Line filed to oppose Blizzard’s Diablo movie trademark. I don’t think it would be too hard for New Line to pick a new snazzy name for its film that doesn’t mess up Blizzard’s long-held plans for a Diablo movie series. That’s assuming that Vin Diesel isn’t playing a character called “Diablo” in the action film. I did a search on DiabloMovie.com and someone in Australia has been parking the domain since September 30, 2000. I don’t think that will last too long.
This might be the reason to why Legendary Pictures dropped the project. And if this is true, Blizzard will eventually release a Diablo Movie!

Few weeks ago, a rumor circulated the net that Gary Whitta would be working with Legendary Pictures to develop a Diablo film. The participation of Gary Whitta hasn't been confirmed, but surprise-surprise. Legendary Pictures website is listing DIABLO under the 'In Development' section. No press release has been made available. The news section has been replaced by a 'Legendary 2.0 is coming soon' notice.
A week ago, the news section over at Legendary Pictures website had not been updated since Q3 2006. Stay tuned for any updates. A press release could be posted by them in a few days. Diablo is coming to the big screen!
I've never heard of Gary Whitta. Here's hoping he's not a shitty actor.
Gary Whitta is a writer, not an actor. And I believe he writes articles periodically for PC Gamer magazine, so I'm sure he's heard of Diablo before. I'd rather have Knaak and Metzen help write for the movie. Those two are both amazing.
It was listed for about 2 days until it was taken off the list. And when Legendary Pictures VP was asked why it was there he said something like, "I'm unaware or do not know anything about that". He was asked at BlizzCon or soon after I believe
Yes im fully aware of that... but "Diablo" is trademarked or copywrited or something by Blizzard, giving them grounds to sue/stop another company from using their name "Diablo" misleadingly, even if its a movie and not a game
That was my assumption anyway, i didnt bother reading up on who blizzard is sueing
If anyone randomly wants to make a movie with the name "Diablo", they can. The only way they can be sued if they purposefully advertise their product as something relating to the game Diablo.
"Vin Diesel’s movie - A Man Apart - was originally named El Diablo which resulted in a lawsuit from Blizzard “claiming they trademarked Diablo and intended to make a movie based on their game”
"Blizzard Entertainment, manufacturer of the popular Diablo and Diablo II games, is suing New Line over that company’s choice to title an in-production film “Diablo.” Blizzard accuses New Line of trying to capitalize on the title of its game series that has sold over 5.6 million copies and brought in revenues of $103 million"
I couldnt find anything on the Diablo movie that i was reffering to, but Blizzard sued over the name "El Diablo", so why not over this new movie called just "Diablo"

EDIT: Holy crap. That site is shit.
It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
"Cards and flowers on your window, your friends all plead for you to stay,
sometimes beginnings aren't so simple, sometimes goodbye's the only way."
You actually think this is a Blizzard quality site?
It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
And I've heard this all before at different places. And I did get a chance to see Diablo listed in Legendary Pictures upcoming films.

Cant beleive they even tried to use the great name of Diablo to promote that shitty looking movie. Didnt Blizzard sue them over the name?
Edit- Did anyone get a screenshot of when it said Diablo under legendary pictures?

Although its fake, it sure made me believe it was real for a few seconds.
Its because they used the title "Diablo" as the title of their movie.... nothing to do with owning a language
