I dont think people want it stripped of its color just more grittier. I think people just dont phrase what they say properly. I agree with what you said tho. I think the outside dosnt need to be that saturated but I do think dungeons do.
Yeah I understand that but there are some people here that just want the saturation without any improvement to the art style of objects (mainly in concern to dungeons), you should have to make a outside world look dead at this point in act 1, its only the start of hell re-awakening, I'd still like to see a gradually decline of the world over the coarse of the game.
I see there are a lot of people saying that we shouldn't complain, etc, that we should thank blizzard for making the game.
However, what we have to understand is that NOW is the time to be critic of the game. NOW the community has to step forward and "complain" because there's probably still time to rectify certain design decisions, and elements of the game that are not yet set in stone.
Like the OP said, the color/design of the game is too fantasy looking. Diablo ISN'T FANTASY. IT'S NOT TOLKIEN. It's the struggle of humanity against the powers of HELL (and maybe heaven, too). I'ts a story that could fit in the Bible, for Christ's sake. Things need to be darker, more edgy.
They gameplay video showed it very dark and edgy at times. I think the point is the righ tplaces have that atmosphere...but not EVERYWHERE...As it should be imo.

I agree, the artists should inject a little more "Gothic" influences into their art design decisions. Diablo 2 was not colorful, it was menacing dark and brooding. That sounds a little emo, but the atmosphere was epic and it worked for 10 years and I think that it could definitely give Diablo III a more pronounced experience.
Hey, I found a word the other day in the dictionary, some of you might want to check it out;
Variety.
Hey, Diablo is supposed to be dark, grays and reds and reddish-gray's with black accents and some ash for good measure. I want every environment to look the same, because I don't actually notice the environments anyway, I just get the general sense of the color of the background that looms behind the torrents of blood spouting in the air. Red blood. Because I like red.
Shut up.
There should be environments that look like those suggestions - hell, there should be a 'SHIT-TON' of levels that look as sick as those edited screenshots, I agree totally.
But I don't want to play the whole game in what, if I didn't know any better, could be confused as the same goddamn dungeon.
That's good that you learned a new word. Another interesting aspect of variety is that it is infinite in its possibilities. The thing is, and hopefully you begin to understand this at some point in your life, is that a game is usually based on certain "design elements". If you wanted unrestrained "variety" go play Second Life. This game just so happens to be called Diablo, thus the style should reflect EVIL, not fluffy carebears. Like a movie with a special lens, Diablo needs a special style to put the player in the experience and evoke the idea of sinister environments and lurking shadows. That's what makes something unique. That's why you begin to like it.
the artwork looks like WOW,because the main artists of Diablo3 is Brian Morrisroe who is the main artists of WOW.
we should send this thread to blizzard, art style of diablo3 is not fit really...

Uh oh, we've hit a snag. I knew this would happen, there's always one. Guess who you are. You don't seem to understand a different, yet equally simple concept - you appear to grasp variety in some feeble way, but you don't understand the idea of context.
No wait, you're right, I was endorsing an official recommendation to Blizzard to create some Unicorn pasture with rolling fields of purple flowers and sparkling waterfalls glimmering in all of the colors of the rainbow off in the distance. You're genius.
Hey, quick question; what are the chances you have an entire world contained in the interior of an ashen cathedral? Hmmm... Oh, and who got all the cultures of the Diablo world together and taught them all the same architectural principles? No company with an art department as talented and versatile as Blizzards is going to submit to your impotent imagination. They're going to use those artists to create interesting, living worlds. Sure, Diablo should have a 'look', but achieving that is more complex that 'just make every level look the same'... why am I even bothering?
You're talking to me, a concept artist, about design elements.
Not only did they make it darker, it looks like they tried to mock up how it would look running on the PSP.
Anybody stop to think that dungeons with more important or sinister plots behind them will as a resulting have darker tones than the nub content we're looking at in the trailer? Anybody?
IMO - Whoever made this should be head of the art team =/
Thank you! That's what I'm getting at. Btw, I edited the post you quoted.
Whoever made that Tristram concept art is a genius indeed. They are about the only one to truly capture the Diablo style.
I hope in the WWI today that people talk about this to them, and get enough people to complain so they will change it.
Diablo's art style is the most important aspect to me.

Even the second screenshot looks too retarded and a bit too dark.

It's a bit too grainy!
Seriously...go play d2 or look at some screens...it actually is a colorful game like the devs said.

The devs know what they are doing.
