Guys, i just want you to know, that thanks to your bitching, if they decide to change shit, the game is gonna take longer to develop. I could care less about the gothic darker feel, the gameplay is all that matters..
edit (2 mins later): but then again, i can sympathize with you because if a game is ugly, no matter how good it is, it wont help the fact that it is ugly. (not that d3 looks ugly). The thing is that its been 8 YEARS! You guys are trying to extend the time it takes knowing that blizzard is notorious for being late?

I agree whole heartedly with the OP. The art direction seems like its deviated quite a bit from what you would expect from the Diablo universe and instead, unfortunately, headed in more of a World of Warcraft direction. I know people love Word of Warcraft but Diablo is not and will never be WoW. Having separate and unique styles of art makes for diverse and interesting games.

man...we wait for 8 years so.... they must do DIABLO 3 and not wow mixed:)

Is it impossible to have good gameplay and a gothic atmosphere?
If it takes longer, then that means more time to refine and develop the gameplay as well. And it isn't like the game is finished. If they take our suggestions in mind they will incorporate these ideas along the way.
thats most likely the first act which is never as dark as the other acts. now stfu and be happy they are creating a third diablo. if ur not pleased then go play diablo 2... im tired of people dissing a game that isnt even out. isnt even close to being released and isnt even close for the tweaking to begin, let them finish their game and then you can complain
I think mostly they just need to remove bloom. Alter all the texture's to a darker more grittier texture. Wherever there are enemies you should at least see a few bodies and blood splatters here and there (human or demons). Maybe change a few models. But since little is being done to animation or model I don't imagine it taking very long to alter, especially if they make a change sooner than later. Maybe a few weeks at most. While someone does that others can continue to work on the game. I can't imagine it delaying the game much if at all.
It's just annoying that 2 days after it's release, people are actually bitching about it. Geez, they said the game is coming and they said they wanted to encorporate a gothic feel to it WHILE USING COLORS, let them do their thing, you dont have to shove your opinions down their throat. We dont even know how far they are in the game yet, they are still working on it, so give them a chance.

It's not the colors in my opinion that's the problem, it's the stylized unrealistic graphics. Colors are realistic, disproportional objects and environments are not.
Hmmm, well someone here said to leave it to the pros, I'm not employed at Blizzard but I'm a graphic designer and artist... professionally. So anyhow the question comes to what you want out of realism, how do you think it will improve the gameplay over the previous version of the game? How does it help suggest physical features by having a far camera view of someone with normal to realistic proportions?
I ask these questions because I want to know what realism will bring to Diablo for you? Also as much as you guys may think that Diablo II (I can't speak for D1) was proportional and realistic it did have armor that was grossly overproportion. Also the bodies were made using the antiquated Poser engine. Do you think that really is a trend Blizzard should maintain? That of a standard simple avatar which you just add armor to until they are covered in overweight gear. Blizzard knows how to emphasize mass and features by using proportions, exaggerations aren't childish but a considered value adding to the impact caused by the Barbarian/Witch Doctors attacks.
You can clearly tell that the characters are what they are. The barbarian shows his true musculer features without any armor only enhanced by more heavy armor. The Witch Doctors reliance on magic is really very much his backbone and greatest strength. Also these aren't WoW aspects since WoW's job system doesn't impact physical features. It is way more thought out and developed then any of you give credit for.
I repeat, petition maker please fix the spelling error. you want to be taken seriously yea?
"The main objective of this petition is to show Blizzard that there's a significant number of players that dont agree with the current art style of the game, with this petition we hope to make Blizzard ear our voices, our opinions and our suggestions and we seriously want some changes in the artistic direction of the game so it could be more coherent and familiar with the Diablo universe. "
suppose to be HEAR and dont needs ' (don't)
please fix and recheck for any other mistakes along the way.
But you don't get it. If we won't complain enough they will think everyone happy! which is hardly the case.
Say, if we got any reply from them like: we saw your complains and considering them. than "I" and most likely "us" won't complain this much anymore.
but they stay silent.
Finally, someone who is on the same page as me. And as i said before, i doubt their done with the graphics.
Also, is it just me, or has bnet forums been down for the last 2 days? I cant go into any topics..

There are quite a few who are on the same opinion as you. To all those who are still saying that it sucks and stuff, I've told you how to form a clear and developed Petition. If you feel your concerns are worth getting out to Blizzard, online petitions aren't the way to do it. Make your petition and have someone print it out and then get people to sign it with address or phone numbers. That way you can show a real concern rather then a thrown together, poorly worded petition.
Its not inspired by WoW, you have no knowledge of the things your talking about. Really you can't possibly have any understanding of art design philosophy. I'm just saying that your point is very anti-WoW, thats fine, I don't care. It is very Diablo, it carries all the asthetics but you are looking at the fact that the Tristam was a dark wooded area, did you ever get past the first act?
If you fear change and innovation, SIGN THAT PETITION. How about we word it that way. You'd rather make them scrap 3-4 years work of graphics that look fine so that say: "Yay, screw those WoW fanboys, this is diablo"!?

what video did you get that image from.
I didn't get much of a horror vibe from those dark greens and blues. Nor did I feel emotion and I don't believe it conveyed much of a mood, either.
