When I look at things, they seem to be taking the opposite path of what we want, and starting from there. Instead of already having a dark, macabre world of despair, they make a happy shining land of peace, and then try to make it dark.
First of all, there is no 'we', it is 'I'. It's been said before and it will be said again. There will be a graphics menu where you can change the color gamma, ect.

Once again, I'm not alone in this, or have you not been reading these forums? And ONCE AGAIN, a graphics menu won't make this game look less like WoW.
I agree, one of the things I loved about the game was its dark atmosphere. However if you want to have a major effect send these images to blizzard (not the art director, but the ones who really care about the game) tell them how EASY it was to get the dark feel back into diablo (note all ppl are lazy to some degree), the other place that you need to hit are the official forums not just one person but EVERYONE, and include these pictures! that will show how many ppl want to play DIABLO not happy fun times land complete with bright happy colors. Doing this will also keep them from thinking you're just 2 or 3 ppl in the corner angry because its different then what you already have.
The thing that drew me to diablo the first time THE MOST was the dark gloomy gothic mood it gave that no other game in it's time had. Honestly it was mostly the graphics both in the environment and the character models both npc and pc. But there was also the isolation (only tristram and it's dungeons) and the fear in the citizens who were also isolated with their own gloomy thoughts they conveyed to you.
Now the latter was for the most part taken out in the 2nd game (with due justice) but it was still slightly there in some aspects. However the "dark gloomy gothic-ness" was still there. Even lut golein made up for it, although it was light most of the time (its the freaking desert what do you expect??) it made up for it with some of my favorite dungeons and tombs and even had a quest that cast shadow on the land that was in fact darker than some of the dungeons...
ALL of this appears to be gone and I've got to be quite honest I absolutely hate the cartoony wow like features of the character models which was probably the main thing that kept me away from WoW aside from how easy it is.
I have a feeling that blizzard is trying to attract a very young crowd with a WoW clone, and I can't say I blame them because lets face it more kids play games than anyone else. However the thing they don't seem to realize is that they can attract the same crows with a "dark gloomy gothic" game. So why the fuck not?
I AM NOT SAYING BE MORE CONCERNED WITH GRAPHICS THAN GAMEPLAY IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM as thats the absolute LAST thing I want. Simply changing the darkness of everything as the original poster did would make me happy enough.
Don't be foolish blizzard and make a WoW clone, for the love of god...(err diablo)
Forgot to mention, if blizzard decides to betray its loyal fans then we can always mod it, but it's still necessary to try and convince blizzard to come back to the dark side... the side of awesomeness.
"The main objective of this petition is to show Blizzard that there's a significant number of players that dont agree with the current art style of the game, with this petition we hope to make Blizzard ear our voices, our opinions and our suggestions and we seriously want some changes in the artistic direction of the game so it could be more coherent and familiar with the Diablo universe. "
Suppose to be "hear" (I want it to be proffesional) please check spelling.

They aren't betraying me so please becareful to say you represent all of their loyal fans.
don't play the game if it's not to your liking, they've only gone out and announced your holy grail. It's been seven years since lod came out, which hardly set the setting for the epic tales. Sure there could've been more cobwebs for your immersion in the dungeon and a whole lot darker but when your showcasing your game to millions of people, who would you rather alienate 0.1% of viewers who take the tetris inventory as the holy grail and complain about stream lining the inventory as well telling blizzard to "fuck off" about how dark a game is. If your so grown up why can't you get over a simple artistic direction of a game and actually look at how it plays rather than the eye candy while appreciating the games deeper themes as dark. Colour doesn't mean it's not dark, if you think so.. wow you've got a lot to learn.
Call it a wow clone if you want, but wow sells to 10+ million players if theres a hint of that in there. Would you really blame them? 99% of the posts in this forum act like they stole from your mother and left her for dead in a ditch as blizzard make away with a bloody knife and her purse.
Oh the armor is looking to good, I guess you'll be the one complaining when you look like a total badass at 99 while others run around is pathetic brown leather armor. Look at conan and tell me that's what you want, look at that art direction they took it places where I think it's where a lot of you think it should've been. It doesn't appeal, it has no mass appeal.
if you've bothered to read the interviews as their is countless of them now, they say they will remain loyal to it's initial fanbase which includes me as I remember playing diablo for countless hours even with all the hackers online. I feel pretty shamed to be apart of such an old gaming community considering a lot of you should be grown up to talk about this in a more civilised fashion instead of saying FUCK YOU BLIZZARD like they've violated your holy grail. It's THEIR holy grail, you were given the chance to tag a long for the ride. They GAVE you EVERYTHING you played in D2 and now you lose faith, after waiting all these years I figured at least a few more people would've been level headed you see less than 1% of the game and spit in their direction. Unacceptable.
I hope they keep the art direction exactly where it is now, look at spawn for instance a very sucessful style of dark is portrayed through actions and emotions. Which D3 is actually trying to bring in, the enviroment can have colour in it while still make the story very dark and the characters compelling and isolated at the same time still being in colour. They said countless times, the darkness is portrayed through the emotion but you jump all over them without even listening to what they have to say. Trust the people who brang you so many hours of enjoyment and perhaps wait to see more of the game before throwing a nerdrage on the keyboard on the forums.
I am starting a petition to add this to the petition to get a proposal to blizzard (not really, but please add this somewhere?)
somewhere along the lines of this
"In an interview with Rob Pardo, he had this to say about the current artistic design and how it is respecting the past of the last Diablo titles;
'if you look at diablo 1 and 2, they were very umm... I mean they obviously had the Gothic look to it, but they weren't very colorful games. And one of the challenges we wanted to take with Diablo III was, 'could we add color, but still maintain that Gothic dark feel?' You know cause I think, uh, we want to take dark as an emotion, rather than an actual color art choice. And I think that's something that um, you know took a long time to get to the point we're at now, like we've probably gone through at least three different pretty major art direction shifts, until we got to the point where we are on stage. Because I think it's really difficult to pull that off. But, we're really happy with the game now.'"
I agree fully about "Why not do it more dark, gothic and scary. It will attract same quantity of ppl even more so"
*whiny voice*
some kid: Hey dan, you saw the awesome diablo III in the shop? damn I'm playing it now and it's the best thing eve
all the blood and scary bosses! damn it's the best!!!
who give a flying f*uck about the 18+ you must get it nawwwww!!
D2 theme was appealing to adults and children alike!
it's like rollercaster even very young kids ride on it cause of the rush of adrenaline to the vains and to show they can!.
Hopefully we will be heard as long as we go about things in a mature manner.
Who is we? The ignorant people of this forum who recently registered and have nothing good to say about a game we have been waiting for for 8 long years?
please dont say you are "diablo fans" at all. Because clearly you arent.
Diablo is about the gameplay and the lore, not about colors. Do not include "Diablofans.com" or "diablo fan"
Personaly I think it would be a waste if they would turn to a more dark and less colorful scene. Why? Because im not a fan of gothic like scene in games. Dont get me wrong though, I played D2 and loved it. But the darkness and gothic style is not my thing. My guess is also that most of you who actualy want it different are probably all rock/metal fans, unlike me.

Besides that, I think they will hit a much bigger audience with the current graphic style. I personaly would be very dissapointed if they would change the grapic style. Be happy that there is even a D3 coming instead of immidiately starting to whine about everything you and a haldful of other people think is bad about it. Be graceful for what you get.
I stopped reading through there.. how more stupid can a person be?

We're trying to balance satisfying the fans and also creating a game that feels like our own.
Well my guess would be the fact that it the majority of the critism was based on aspects of the game that are against Blizzards design philosophy. The first being that artistic styles are bad, when in reality all of Blizzards games have been about using the tools they have at their disposal to make a game if possible. You argued that the styles were too cartoony but pigeon-holed the term as only childish. In reality exaggerated features can exist in a full adult setting without making the series Disneyesque.
Your only point that stands to have some merit would be on the color pallette, though I could say that Blizzard just worked within the limitations they had. That being that the were working with a scalable engine that probably even factored in 8bit color layouts, with 16bit being a more standardized set. I don't even believe they used 24bit or 32 bit color pallettes in the previous games. This would limit their selections and the Deserts where a heck of a bright display and the city while set in its own tones was able to splash more vivid setting then previous.
Though I agree the colors should have more layers of tones to add realism. Such as bump maping and reflector shaders. Those two sets would give more rigid appearances to the game and help to flesh out many of the problems brought up thus far.
EDIT: I agree with Equinox, he brings up my major complaint thus far, that only a few are speaking as if they are the majority. From my sample of friends the game has just been loved and over joyed
The petition was probably deleted because it doesn't belong on diablofans.com. Also, it's biased, making it feel like people don't like the graphics while plenty do.

yeah go post that on diablohaters.com

What about non-fans? What about people who didn't play Diablo ever? What about people who only played Diablo I? Are you considering them?
