That boring dark gothic shit gets boring real quick imo. Most likely Some parts of the game will be dark and gothic and some wont. What's the big deal??? Most of the people worried about this crap are the hardcore nerds.
Guys, regarding to the light radius / shadows issue here's some concept picture i made, it's obviously not accurate but you can get the idea, i just slightly changed the colors but what I want to show is how the light radius from Diablo 2 should look like in Diablo 3, something like this:
whata great ** pic!!!!this is our diablo that we've waited 8 years damn long!!

I'm shure that light radius would fix a lot of climate. Here is simple photo, but still it's not real light radius. And we don't need mmorpg like damage information. http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/7514/46906528ky8.jpg
And interiors are empty. Here is simple example how better would it look with little of gore. Sorry for low quality photo edition
This is amazing man. It's not bland at all and looks AWESOME. With a form of light radius this would be so awesome man.
Post this stuff on Battle.net D3 suggestion forums man!!!!
Age of Conan has perfect realism graphics and 48 vs 48 players PVP, but you need a monster system to run it.
24 vs 24 PVP is no problem.
And the characters look like real people, like in Diablo 2.
Here is the most colorful pic I could find:
Even in day time with all that color it still looks real, like D2.
the more I see my sig girl bellow the more i feel nause...I think you guys feel too, look these scraps,I would change it if blizzard bring these armors of diablo2 back.

I cannot imagine a game looking any better graphically than the iteration from the gameplay trailer. The opening scene of the trailer when the barb steps out on that platform was an OMG moment for me. Plenty dark and realistic enough for my tastes, mood wise. And I'm sure the Devs will add more filler that gives the scenery a more eery feel.
If there was one thing I would change, I have to agree that some -witch doctor especially- charcters and monsters looked a little too cartoonish. This could change in my opinion. But the back-drop, scenery, environment, what ever you want to call it, is a 1000% improvement in my opinion. May just be the jump from 2d to 3d, but it rocks. I definitely had a gloomy feel as I watched the trailer. My 2 cents...

People that liked what Diablo 3 looked like are not going to sit here and bitch about how its good. People that want it to change are much more vocal. The poll is flawed because of that FACT.
They should also do something about the armors if they are all going to look like that. Just look at the barb's armor when he's zoomed in in the gameplay video. Those huge-ass pauldrons with spikes coming out of them, and all painted in fluorescent colors? No, thanks.
agreed, armors is one of a very important features.

i didn't notice that yet, wow that girl sucks ass big time. Bulky horrible armour built directly off a Wow Orc warrior model/skin. The females in all diablo's were built feminine, with more realistic armour not gigantic fridge machines with hoofs for feet

What if the game looks this way just in the beginning? But as the game plays on, in the later levels, the game gets darker. The trees begins to die, and NO more rainbows?
We haven't seen their Later levels, so that's the problem, maybe Later levels are just much darker
I think from a storypoint of view it makes sense too.
20 years Terror has gone, and place begins to have LIFE...andcolor, but as Terror returns, they are dying once again!
So, maybe we should ask Blizzard to Release a Later level to us, see what it looks like, if infact it's just as colorful as these earlier levels (If they are even that far), before we really complain about things?
If so, these style are OK with me, because it signifies at this point in the game, it's still not over taken by Full force of Evil Yet!

Blizzard, please put back the single player offline mode!
One thing I noticed. Some bits do look good. Look on the left (the grey bit) I think that's the way it should look for the most part. Anyone agree. Also notice the left it's very dark, sort of the effect light radius would hae
I think the Only problem is the place look too colorful/too light and not as scary/evil as Diablo 1/Diablo 2 was! The models/architecture is actually FINE to me!
It will also change, too, I would think from place to [Later place]

i totally agree that the graphics we saw in the gameplay trailer are totally un-diablo but im not excactly sure what it is that makes me feel that way...
When i first played diablo 2, and walking the the cathedral i actually felt scared....there were remains of bodies on tables that were torn apart at the torso and i remember thinking that it was grotesque.
But when i watced the gameplay trailer, even as bodies of monsters were exploding i felt like it was just normal. the element of realism...the grossness....the goryness just isnt there. it feels like it is acceptable to watch that.
Imagine if the sort of things happening in the trailer (the cultists summoning up those demons, monster corpses exploding) happened in D2? even with its 2D graphics or whatever it would look REALLY terrifying. it would look real, it would look scary. i would be thinking to myself "holy shit that is gross, no one should be put through that, nor witness that"
I really hope that blizzard reconsider their direction in regards to the look of the game. if it turns out looking like it does in the trailer ill be quite dissapointed.
Well, I notice it's a woman... Woman usually like colorful stuff!
Then they will LOVE Diablo 3.

lol it can still easily be a ranger since who said you cant shoot arrows at melee distance xD

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees

Cartoony gore is still a cartoon.
Japanese cartoons have tons of gore and blood; they're still cartoons.

IMO Frostwake you make it a little do dark in some places.
I like it dark in the landscape (road/ground/plants/sky)
but less on the mobs themselves, the mobs near you in the picture look awesome cause the light shine on them from the char, but the farther you go they become black mess of blurry figure, a thing which not happend with the original picture.
and the Chick with the armor makes me puke. WoW armor eww.

Link to a diablo interview that i got from another thread...
"Diablo 1 and 2 had the Gothic look to them...but they werent colorful games...
The challenge with diablo 3 is, could we add color...but maintain the Gothic feel to it..
We wanna take darkness as more of an emotion rather than actual color of choice..."
Thats a paraphrase of what the guy said at about 5:25...
That answers alot about the colour schemes.
