They are just show around 0.1-0.5% of the game and I think there will has both bright and dark area in game.
I am OK with the outdoor with it is not bright on everywhere, at least Kurast's juggle need to be dark.
But the dungeon is way too bright.
I think Blizzard use low polygoned models because there are horde of demons, undeads, beasts, etc. in game and using higher one will make the game lag and require much better computer to play and that might mean less people can play it.
I don't have a problem with the coloring of the current build. In my opinion the only thing letting down the game so far is the complexity of the shadows and lighting effects. In D2 the general lighting / brightness of the game was derived from the light sources along the way and your own and monster light radius. From the look of the screens the lighting looks global and not derived from object sources and the character light radius seems out the window. These things could and may be implemented without having to do anything to the colours and textures of the game.
Another thing! Blizzard would have to back down the level of 3d graphics and complexity of the engine used in the game to reduce low fps, a perfect example of what the engine is taylored for can be seen in the gameplay footage where you can see maybe 20 - 30 creatures attacking a barb on a bridge fluidly IN 3D, D2 is about hordes of monsters and relentless action, its taken a long time for hardware to reach a level where this can be done in 3D. look at how bad dungeon seige or titan quest are compared to D2
Maybe the engine cant support such advanced lighting effects at the level blizzard wants it to.
Gameplay Vs. Graphics quality, i'd take the gameplay.
They should most certainly ditch the current art style. The devs them selves said that they want to follow the "dark, gritty, mature and sharp" feel and look of the Diablo universe. Yet all i see when i look at D3 is flat, blurry, water colored textures and lighting that is anything but 'moody' that should be appied to the Diablo game.
Oh and for those of you who think this is all pre-alpha and its not what the final game will look like, your wrong. Read this exerpt from the Diablo 3 interview over at IGN:
Development on Diablo III began way back when Blizzard North was still around and currently the team working on it consists of around 50 people. Initially the game's visual design was closer to the older games than what we saw in the gameplay demonstration. "We probably did three rev[ision]s on the visual direction until we got to this and now we're really happy with it," said Pardo.
That to me sound like they're pretty sold on the art style they have now. So please, voice your concerns. Make them change (Assuming you agree with me, if not, then don't).

I still say wait for it. It's only been like 2 days.
The more dark images are cool, but they are images. You have to ask yourself do you really want to see the monotonous dark and dull colours throughout the hundreds of hours of game that you will play? I for one would love the variety of colors, something that won't tire me and keep things interesting instead of boring.
Rest assured, I bet on this, there will be dark areas, there will be more bright ones. This is not Ragnarok
Depends on whether you find dark dull or not. I think dark is awesome. If you like rainbows go play WoW.
Yeah, as far as the models themselves, I'm not seeing the comparison to WoW all that much. They look much more grounded- not any more "cartoonish" than the D2 characters.

The Diablo 3 Barbarian: His Mid-Life, Your Crisis.
I agree about the game needing more darker feel into it.
To the ones who said - what's the problem you can change it easy in the options - No, you can't fully change it there.
Most, If not all, of the edits you saw in this thread used special filters in photoshop which can't be found normally in every game options.
And If you may change the options some features will be ruined, take the fire spells/fire lamps in some of the pictures they are very blurry and not looking bright like the original.
I can only see it as perfect if they make some special feature which give us the choice to change the coloring to more Gothic like in the "gameplay" tab or something.
That's what you get when you don't have special unique team for every project in itself. *cough*BlizzardNorth*cough*
Those modified images look more like a painting than a game.. I'm sure the areas get darker as u move forward in the game.
And I'm sure blizzard will still improve the looks.
What's wrong with that? I would love to play a game that looked like a living, breathing painting.
That being said, the more I watch the game play video the more I like the graphics. I think the problem is they used a lot of colored ambient lights, making what should be grey stone and odd assortment of blues/greens/purples. I'm not oppose to colors. I love the way the outdoors looks in the video at this point. But the inside is a terrible mess.
I also think this is a game that looks much better in motion that in screen shots.
Fact is this. The majority don't like the current state of the art direction. So we do what we do best. Bitch and scream. Make it heard. Make em change their ways. They did it with SC2, they can do it here.
Guys if we could just hold our emotions together till next week and see if stuff has improved we'll have a much better chance on making a point. I repeat: TWO measly days for gods sake! Hold your horses for a tiny second :-/
Wait until next week, if they have more to show us (more of the same) then go as vocal as you want.
next week? This is all the D3 media we'll be getting for a good while mate. And the further they get into production the harder it;'ll be to reverse the damage
IMO it's ok to use green yellow and such colors in outside areas (no rainbows! >.<). BUT make them much much much more muted and not bright! and sharpen them.
Cool thing I thought about will be if blood will splash on the bushes/plants to show your actions change the background to some extend (as example).

Right and as we know it, devs never sleep eat or rest. Especially after huge conventions.

Yes but only color correction wont help.
And I'm sure blizzard will still improve the looks.

How does the fact that you think that blizzard will improve the looks changes things? we are discussing, suggesting, whats wrong with it?
