In a 20 minute gameplay trailer I saw plenty of violence, a group of cultists get completely decimated by an uncontrollable summoned deity and a player character get ripped in half in a bloody mess, leaving entrails hanging from the beasts mouth. Not to mention spell animations (for example the lotus swarm) leaving enemy mobs stripped of flesh down to the bone. For an early demo, this is looking extremely promising.
If the problem lie in people wanting the artistic direction to follow the cover-art of a Cradle of Filth album, then that's hardly mature.
This games looking amazing, please don't fall foul to self-hype...it kills alot of games, through no fault of the developers at all.
"self-hype? if you think the out-door jungle in the 20min vid, is better than the jungles of kurast, go play http://www.hellokittyonline.com/us/"
lawl...the outdoor stage is pretty much the same as kurast except that it's a much more open area therefore there would be more light. quite whining that it's not gothic enough honestly.
as for armor that I wanted is like above type, its looks so comfortable with a little lighting around the surface of the helmet(scalp?)..no exaggerated no big scrap iron..

DIFFERENT ARTISTS MAKES DIFFERENT GAME!!NEW CLASS of WoW above.
Is it really too much to ask for you guys to just be excited for the announcement? Seriously, we've seen very little of the game so far and you guys are tearing it to pieces.

We complain about the art style, its already too late to adjust.unless blizzard do not care these cost for redevelopment it.

I'm sorry but I just don't see anything Diablo about the D3 color scheme and style. It's just not Diablo no matter which way you spin it. I know the WoW fanboys will be happy and Blizzard will get their money, but they are raping the great style that defined the Diablo universe.
This pic reminds me of Diablo 2's Act 3 b/c of those stone structures, huts, river and jungle.
Kurast in day time. Modern RPG.
What's wrong with these graphics?

"[Diablo1+2] obviously had the gothic look to it, but, you they weren't, they weren't very uh, very colorful games."

"Why the hell shouldn't it be for 'kiddies', it's a goddamn game afterall." -lethlan

I just don't see what the problem is. Look at Dawn of War 2: That game looks fantastic. Yet, despite that, they can probably fit tons more NPCs on the screen and not get a framedrop. What the hell are they afraid of with those textures and models?
Possibly the fact that they'd look alot different if viewed from the Diablo-esque isometric view point. You're waiting for the wrong game if you want Diablo 3 to be played from a non-isometric fashion.
You can set any view point you want in the game.

Diablo 2 was defined by the awesome loot system, the cinematic and central quest-line driven storyline that escaped being too cliché (and didn't insult your intelligence in a LOST style twist-shitfest) and above all else the fast-paced click-mashing gameplay.
then why aren't you excited about the gameplay trailer? It looks a metric ton better than D2.
You are right, those were good gameplay elements found in D2. Unfortunately this is art style we're talking about here and you seem to have left that out. D2 had an incredibly dark gothic style. I suggest you actually play the game instead of telling me what Blizzard told you during the panel.
Please, please PLEASE, Blizzard, don't change to something like this. I love the new art style and also realize a LOT of different landscapes can be created with it. You can get as dark and gloomy as you want.
But please don't make it a black and white drab piece of work. Talk about boring.

I don't want drab black and white, I want intricate and moody. I do, however, want it in a style that actually fits in with the Diablo franchise.

Have you ever played Diablo II? Just curious...

a 3d game by blizzard does not = a warcraft clone
You can set any view point you want in the game.

Can someone explain to me how turning down my contrast will make these screenshots look like classic Diablo in terms of architecture and style?
