Avid players of the previous installments of Diablo understand why ambiance, mood, texture, grit, and macabre play such an important role in the series. I remember being about twelve and venturing into the final level of the catacombs; the fear was palpable. From the pools of blood that gathered in the wrecked stone floors to the corpses which were callously strewn across the unforgiving landscape, D2 had a definite and dynamic element of terror that D3 seems to have been left behind. One complaint in particular that has me a bit dumbfounded is the notion that everything doesn't have to be so sinister and that D2 had scenes which ran replete with sunshine and hope; this wasn't the case. Disparity was the overwhelming mood. Act 2 is a great example of this. It'll take you about ten steps outside the city's walls before you discover fly ridden-bodies spitted on spears and left to roast in the desert sun. These little touches is WHAT MADE ME LOVE THIS GAME! I think I speak for a lot of people when I say I want to see pure, unadulterated, sadomasochistic evil! I want the backgrounds to display the most heinous, hell ridden acts of depravity and hedonism. I want a spine shivering experience of true horror! I want a worthy successor to the morally bankrupt environment which is DIABLO!

That kinda creeped me out, but it would be cool if they mixed D1's mood with the new D3. Just darkening it up a bit

I think you have it a little too drastic since, personally, I wouldn't want Diablo 3 to be a survival-horror type of game. But for the boss fights, hell yeah.
1. If you read a little bit more than you did, you would have seen that i'm going to buy it no matter what.
2. STFU and listen.
3. Yea, you don't like to whine, you love everything that sb gives you. If Diablo would throwing a pizza, you would love it, childish behaviour.
4. I FUCKING KNOW IT WILL IMPROVE!!! But better Blizzard to know what is ok and what is not ok with their new baby!
5. You annoy, i will be very glad to discuss your disability of proper thinking +_*
cheers
Don't tell me to STFU, little misunderstanding child. I meant to say when it comes out, it will come out improved b'cuz blizz has so much time to do it. But some of these whinners here are already complaining it just GOT ANNOUNCED.... FUCK, I believe there is already a complain thread.

The more we complain, the better Blizzard will hear us.
I'm gobsmacked by people who actually think this new art direction fits Diablo, seriously, whats the matter with these people?
I didnt say it fits it. I also want that dark mood that was in D1 and D2, improved ofc. But these guys just cry about this shit so much.... thats what's fucking annoying. Almost every thread has this crap about how D3 should be darker...
The more we complain, the better Blizzard will hear us.
The more we complain.. which is ALOT on this site. Then blizzard wont know what the fuck to do, and they'll postpone the game indeffiantely just like SC ghost or it will take em long as hell to actually release itLOL. So lets keep it organized and not post about this crap in every thread.

For fucks sake, Fable 2 looks grittier, darker, depraved, etc,... then this WoW crap thats supposed to resemble what Diablo is all about. I can't quite get my head around it but it seems that the original team behind the Diablo franchise in charge of graphics were simply assimilated by whoever designed the art of WoW.
The argument that we've only seen 0.1% so we shouldn't whine about it is retarded, so Blizzard decided to show us what is absolutely not representative of Diablo 3? Get real. That "0.1%" shows us what 99.9% of the game will look like, that is if you actually have a brain to make all this "difficult" connotations.
Diablo 3 looks about as "real" as Spore seminating Warcraft 3, it has the same ambiance, it has the same "everything is made with cute and soft big cubes for 5 month old babies". "Textures"? Never heard of them before, nah, better not include complex textures, it might upset my 2 year old niece.
Sigh.

"[Diablo1+2] obviously had the gothic look to it, but, you they weren't, they weren't very uh, very colorful games."
"We want to take dark as an emotion, rather than an actual color art choice." -Rob Pardo
"Why the hell shouldn't it be for 'kiddies', it's a goddamn game afterall." -lethlan
Should be darker? I don't quite think just scaling down light will simply make WoW into Diablo. And if you didn't notice it before, we are actually in a thread discussing how Diablo looks, if you feel that you need to express what Blizzard did do right besides graphics then feel free to either post your opinion in the relevant thread or, you know, make your own thread.
Almost every thread about D3 here has this crap....
I think you have it a little too drastic since, personally, I wouldn't want Diablo 3 to be a survival-horror type of game. But for the boss fights, hell yeah.
Good (INTENSE!) memories.
That's not what I was going for at all. I want the game to have the same art/content direction as its predecessors and for it to reflect the fact that Diablo, ruler and purveyor of HELL, is frothing in an evil pit of decadence waiting to reek chaos. What I don't want is this whimsical, fruity piece of work that's been shoveled at us. I'm not a picky person, really...this just means a lot to me.
I agree... you can tell they have been working on this for a long time... the textures are very outdated. The art style needs to be different, as well. Darker... more sinister.
So its only graphics people complain about now? Well thats both obvious (seeing that almost every first time announcement of any game in the history of gaming is based heavely on how the game in question looks) and positive (if its only graphics, then people seem to be pretty happy about the rest)
Most people would use the excuse that it's the only thing you can really tell... But then eventually they'll say something bad about the gameplay and you can bitch them out... I hate people...
well diablo 3 is in the same stage wotlk is in - Alpha they said that, and also steve pardo said in an interview that they had restled with several colour schemes and art idea before settling on this one, so i just thnk we really need to kick up a stink about it, or its going to get left the way it is on the video throughout the entire game, and i dont think anyone really wants it to look like that
Yeah i don't understand why they settled upon this one, BUT it was their choice and blizzard devs roxzorz, so they know what they are doing. Most of us havent gone to college for 6 years studying video game color schemes
That kinda creeped me out, but it would be cool if they mixed D1's mood with the new D3. Just darkening it up a bit
