It's difficult for people to let characters go sometimes. Especially one as popular as Cain. I can understand why everyone would wish to keep him in the franchise, but it's like saving someone's life and them getting brain damage and being in a persistent vegetative state. Sure, they're alive....but why?
Becomes senile/crazy... but not evil/corrupted/enlightened... that seems realistic because he is like 100 years old
Maybe you could even visit him in Diablo III act1 say, when hes on his death bed (old age)... that way you get to say goodbye and he doesnt just dissapear from the series
Isnt he already starting to become senile during Diablo 2 anyway? or forgetful?
Cain has a rare disease where as he ages, he looks more and more like Patrick Stewart and sounds like Sean Connery.
thats a pretty bad ass combo.
i wouldnt mind seeing Cain again, but only if its makes sense for him to be there, not just some five second cameo for no reason.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
How old is Cain? maybe we're overreacting? he still has some hair, just because he cant fight of Fallen doesn't necessarily mean he is 80+ years old
And how much time actually passes throughout Diablo 1 or Diablo 2+LoD? I don't think it would be more than a year right?
its a matter of interpretation, but based on the how old marius appears in the asylum comapred to how he appears in the flashback, there is a fairly sizable gap between act 4 and act 5.
also it is unknown how big the gap is between d1 and d2, we know from the diablo manual that after the warrior killed diablo, he ramined in tristram for a little while, then moved on, then he appears and the "outcast" inn, where he finds marius.
rough esitmate between d1 and d2 say 3 years, act 4 and act 5 uh i would really know, but cant imagine it being more than 10 though. the only real indication its a long time is what Baal says. "ive been search for you for a long time marius, i was begining to think you didnt want to be found"
so d1-> end of LOD maybe 10 years max. and cain is pretty old in d1 already. id say 60, 70, this is "medieval" times, people didnt live that long, war, famine, plague, demons, and there is no Elves or Dwarves.
but i could be wrong, i am just theorising here.

It certainly is sketchy. Cause we can also assume he must have aged more rapidly from the combination of living in an asylum and possessing Baal's Soulstone. For all we know even, quite a bit of time may have passed before Baal finally found Marius and took back his stone.

I've never sensed the gap between D1 and D2 was too much. Somewhere around 2-3 years. 3 at the very most.
Did Marius say something in the beginning about having been in Tristram or just the Rogue Citadel? Cause he seems to have these bad nightmares before even meeting the Wanderer. I never quite understood that.

I think it's important to consider that during these times people looked older than they do at the same age today, specifically because of diseases, bad hygiene etc. So if he looks like 60-70, I'd guess he could probably have been 10 years younger. I mean, fighting demons, even though he didn't himself participate, must take a toll on the city. Food could have been scarce in Tristram during that time, making him look older than he actually is.

Yeah it's strange. I think Elfen explained that once in a thread about a year ago though
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.

thats what i was thinking, no more than 3.

Quite a read Thasador. I was never able to respond to this thread. Though you base your suggestive information that Cain may be evil from a dialogue from a movie.
Eh, I dont know. Cain has been a part of many histories and not always the same person. Bliz does tend to use actual persons from the past (Devils, prophets, angels) from religious texts. Could be possible for Cain to be evil.

Hero of the Trojan War, son of Telamon, thus called the Telamonian Ajax, also called Ajax the Greater. In the Iliad he is represented as a gigantic man, slow of thought and speech, but quick in battle and always showing courage. He led the troops of Salamis against Troy and was one of the foremost Greek warriors, fighting both Hector and Odysseus to draws.
Irather cain either be good, or not feature at all. we dont need another NPC from tristram that featured in a privious game turning evil, again.
on a side note, probably a good idea you changed your sig/avy. now there is no question who you are.

Well I dont know if any NPC's will show up in Diablo III because Tristram was laid in ruins in Diablo II. Maybe one of them have survived but considering the odds, i doubt it.

Hmmm
Are you trying to compare the movie to Bliz on how they select or continue stories for Diablo??? Just read the novels, they tell you a great deal of what is to come.

I see this is based on mythological religious scriptures and how they link into the lore of Sanctuary
Who would Cains metaphorical "Abel" be?
Who would be his brother, his nemesis, the person he seeks to murder?

Um....you? Though Cain does not have a brother in Diablo Lore. Though are we talking about the physical cain of the Horadrim or cain, the one corrupted by Belial and Azmodan is his brother?
