first let me start off by saying that i was a HUGE fan of diablo 1 and 2... i grew up on those games... but the reason that Diablo 3 will probably be a dissapointment for fans of the previous installments is THE TOP EXECUTIVES LEFT. It's the same company name, but not the same people. Diablo 3 will be more like WoW than the D1 and D2. Odds are Blizzard will charge 15 USD per month to play for barely any extra content, just for greed's sake (WoW is a perfect example of this). If you want to know where the geniuses behind every blizzard game prior to WoW went, the made their own company called Flagship Studios. Right now they're making a game called Hellgate: London which IS made by the same ppl who made Diablo 1 and 2. D3 will have the same name but almost none of the same minds behind it. Well that's just my two cents...
you're not making any sense. What Blizzard needs to make Diablo III a great game they have. The story (and the one that writes it), the team (the ones that left probably didnt have many new things to add if we believe the rumor that said they scrapped Diablo III as it was and started over cause it wasnt as good as it should).
Hellgate: London is the game developed by ex-Blizzard employees but it doesnt mean its gonna be as good. Looks good as it is now but theres more in a game than graphics and i'm not sure Hellgate will be half as fun as the Diablo games before it.
What you said about having to pay for "barely any content" is what the people from Flagship will do. I really doubt its what Blizzard will do, since they're making Battle.net stronger and it has incomes through the ads on the chatrooms that made profit since the first Diablo.
I have no doubt that Diablo III will be the best game of the series since its Blizzard thats gonna make it. And Blizzards games are all one of a kind.
WoW is charged per month, yes, but WoW is an MMORPG that has customer service 24/7, additional content about every month, events and excellent servers. BUT its ONLY multiplayer. I highly doubt u'll have to pay monthly for singleplayer games from Blizzard anytime soon.
I've to admit I hate WoW : no background story, and p2p...
p2p is good as long as they provide the services they do. And they do provide services. And about the background story... every quests tell stories. And there is a bigger plot on the background that starts becoming visible. Deathwing is still alive planning something... Arthas is in Northrend too, planning to attack. There are world events that bring the story forward. Just check it
For me, WoW has just become this unique phenomenon where no matter what game we're talking about, the conversation has a good chance of ending up as a WoW merits debate.

I would have to agree that you are jumping to conclussions.
1) $14.99 a month is for the payment of servers that run for the most part like glass. I would gladly pay $14.99 to play D2 hack free with less game creation bugs, random player temp bans and customer support for items that are bugged.
2) Content, as far as WoW, they have done a fantastic job adding content to a game. There is so much content in WoW that it is a first of its kind. All of their player dungeons are fantastic, and all have a unique feel to it to make them different then the one before.
3) The story line and characters are the things that keeps Diablo fans, fans. There are a few people that love the Over the top controlable hack n slash play but its more so the characters and the story. Blizzard still has the same main writer as the first 2 titles.

"Pking in Softcore, is like two deaf kids yelling at each other."
If Diablo 3 is indeed announced at Blizzcon, it's not a coincidence that they are working on SC2 and D3 and battlenet all at the same time. I doubt very much that D3 will be an MMO (although WOD might not be too far away).

I agree with this 100%.
But I'm not sure what you mean by "World of Diablo(WOD) might not be too far away".
Please, personally I hope that Diablo will never become a p2p MMO.
Diablo is an action RPG, and it should stay that way.

uhh, ill agree with everyone else that youre too extreme on this, but ill say that you're retarded. do your homework like we do, else you cant really tell us what things are going to be like. get informed before you offer crap, its like two people talking quantum physics and you mention your ideas of how to adapt an engine. it fits with the conversation, just not nearly at the informed or master level of ours. read and post comments. dont make threads offering poorly constructed opinions and views.
also, dont slander blizzard, you have no idea of what they are planning. just because they charge for WoW doesnt mean they will continue the pattern. another thing, Hellgate:London looks like crap, nothing like diablo so dont get your panties up in a bunch.
damn i hate it when nubs try to talk like they know what they're talking about, but have no idea of whats going on. go read a book.
I hope not. all this talk of 'World of Diablo'... i could see why someone would want this tho.. i mean, two awesome games wrapped up into the same one?!
or a diablo xpac for WoW (rofl) but then like most ppl say, that takes away from how the originals were set up.
What I really hate is that it's a MMO, and I can't play it offline.
cant play it offline is part of the gameplay. In this "world" you need other people to do whats necessary. You need people to crowd the world. In there you're not the One Hero that can challenge everything. You're part of a group, an army. There are roles. I do miss a game like Diablo, or Diablo II where i could just start playing on your own and simply smash any opponent, with or without much strategy and thinking. But i like how WoW is different than that. Thats why i'd prefer a Diablo 3 and not some MMO in the world of Sanctuary instead.
Concerning the background story, well, it exists, and there's a plot too, but it's not deep enough for me.
It feels like the background story has just been written fo fill the game, as if the game was done before the story was written...
And I don't feel like achieving anything in this game, because it rarely evolves, and doesn't focuses enough on my character, and what I try to achieve, there are hudreds of guys around me who already achieved it.
yeah, the plot is too big for one person only. In the major quests (mostly raids) you're a part of an army. Sometimes you get famous (like when an npc announced to the whole region how i achieved to get the rank of Highlord to them), or when people gave Onyxias, or Nefarians head to the authorities of Stormwind. But we arent as major in the game plot as we are in the single player titles. But when you succeed in some things in the game as part of a team, it really feels rewarding. In WoW when you arent logged on, some others are. In Diablo when you arent logged on, the game is closed
i like how they're different and i do want something good of both at the same time (as in 2 different games, not both in one since its not possible to do that).
But when I killed Diablo for the first time, it made me feel like a hero, as if I achieved one of the greatest feats ever, and reaching the Worldstone gave me the feeling I had the opportunity to reach a place no other mortal had ever step foot on.
i know exactly what you mean, had the exact same feeling while playing Diablo (and Diablo II). I felt i had to keep going (playing) cause the "world" needed me as their hero. Its really more about what you like most. i like both teamplay and solo. But theres no game that can do both.
i always liked how when u changed ur armor in diablo, it would show on your character. yet another reason i was drawn to WoW, from something i took interest in from Diablo.

I guess since WoW is on the verge of being a billion dollar a year enterprise in itself, who wouldn't consider a Diablo MMO?

There is a rumor floating around that Warcraft is on the same timeline as Diablo.
