I just thought I would post a topic like this and discuss it amoung the many
Diablo fans here. My question is obviously in the topic name but do you think that Blizzard will turn the Diablo into a "World of Diablo"?
Well let's see I believe that Diablo has a bigger fan base than Warcraft, and if Blizzard is making top dollar off of Warcraft, imagine how much money they would rack in with Diablo. I know that most of you are totally against paying a monthly fee because of Diablo being free for the first two games, but you also know that another Diablo game is irresistable.
Just imagine Diablo set into a huge enviroment, a huge supply of quests, monster slaying, legendary items, and most of all Diablo in full 3D.
Honestly, a game like Diablo set into a huge 3D World is just the most greatest thing that would happen. With a gameplay system similar to WoW, Diablo's storyline can be represented with great detail and to see such places filled with Lore would be awesome.
Problem I see with this would be: Blizzard wouldn't drop there money maker (WoW) for another MMORPG (Or atleast I think they wouldn't). Also with the History Diablo has of being defeated and broughten back can be tough to write into a game of such big proportions. Like WoW most things in History have passed or are making history in the game right now.
But if WoD was the idea Blizzard has for another Diablo, that would be great and I would not mind paying 15 Bucks a month for a game that can definitley impress the world, sadly I don't think that would be the case =(
Now let's get down to a real discussion. Let me know your thought on a "WoD" or a Diablo game similar to WoW's gameplay mechanics.
I belive this has been stated several times on other thread maybe u should read some and discuss on them b4 u make ur own;) and my answer to ur question ... i dont blizzard would do that to there Diablo fans but only time will tell:(

SICK...SILVER Inferno Crusading Knights ... Coming to Diablo 3 Realm Near You!
If that would happen, that sucks for me, I hate MMORPG's. That is just me, of course. There are too many MMO's out there, and there are so little decent Hack&Slash. Blizzard is also one of the very few companies that you can trust, and if that company goes the commercial path, I can put a large cross on it...
yes too many MMORPGS, many of which from what ive seen are pretty crap. not very many great Hack&Slash games out there, Blizzard has made 3 absolutely amazing Hack&Slash games, ok technically LOD is an Expansion but hopefully you get my point.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Guild Wars? isnt that a MMORPG? but its free though and thata a good thing.
if Diablo was to go the MMORPG route *shudders* i hope it would be similar to GW rather than WOW, personally i hope it stays Hack&Slash, Action/Adventure, RPG or whatever you want to call it, just so long as it isnt MMORPG.

Yes, I do see where your're all coming from. MMO's are very choppy and yes I am very unhappy with WoW's slow combat. (There are times occaisonally in MMO's where I click the mouse repeatedely =P) But Im sure if they did put it in a MMORPG, they wouldnt get rid of the hack and slash gameplay.
But I'm sure Diablo will be set in it's orginal place =) Although maybe Blizzard has something up their sleeves. Well guess we're just going to wait. Frankly I love Diablo, to be honest with you I like it way more than Warcraft, I just think Diablo could be a definite (sp?) joybringer =) To many MMO's? Yeah there are but that's what's selling.
If Diablo were to return into a B.net style I really hope they get rid of the "Rushing" (Granted it is useful =P I use it) but it's to easy to obtain high levels and to reach new difficulties, and running a Baal run is definitley not my style of fun while trying to hit the highest level. Those are my thoughts.
I am not here to support WoW in anyway. Just thought I would post my thoughts =)
as i stated in most of the other threads about that, i dont believe that Diablo 3 will be an MMO for the same reason World of Warcraft isnt Warcraft 4. (I hope u get my point). If Blizzard decides to make an MMO in the Diablo universe (for which i hope for sometime in the future) they wont act as if its a part of the series, but an independent game. I expect them to finish the trilogy first and then 2-3 years later make an MMO from it (WoW will be old by that time too, so timing wouldnt be too bad).
If Diablo 3 is a MMORPG, then it can't be a hack'n'slash, unless they get a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE bandwidth, and we pay a 500$/month fee. A hack'n'slash is more like an online FPS than a MMO. And MMOFPS suck pretty hard, and are very laggy... So you really can't make a MMO with a game as fast as Diablo 2 is, and you can't have 50 characters fighting in the same area at such a high speed.
We still will have to see about Huxley (MMOFPS on Unreal 3 engine). It doesn't seem to be too slow at the moment. And Infinity, isn't slow at all. Are you sure combat process affects server in any way? I thought combat is calculated by the computer and all the server does is collecting information, in any case, you are exxagerating.

i agree wholeheartedly

Yeah, I understand what your saying about WoW not being Warcraft 4, But yeah with where WoW is right now I dont think Diablo would be an MMO. But Im glad all you had some nice points, I'm glad I joined this board. Has people who actually know what they're talking about =)

No idea zubin...as for 'WoD' i think it would be....not so good. It would be better to increase the amount of players that can join a game and even have realms/areas/whatever like gw. but no attack system like wow, keep it hack n slash all the way. as for p2p (pay 2 play)....grrrrrrrrr...better not be.
what makes most pay 2 play a game is what this game provides us. I'm happy to pay for WoW for the services i get (got my first tier 4 item tonight, yay!) and will be happy to pay for a Diablo MMO if they provide me with the same lag/hack-free environment, patching every month, content patches etc. But i dont think its gonna happen too soon.
Considering UT3 engine isn't PO engine, they probably have problems with a computer to run it.
I think an FPS can hold of 60 x 60 (why does anyone need more people???).
Serious Sam engines are there for you, they can hold of a lot of enemies. Maybe not with such good graphics.
Server does NOT run the graphics. Computer runs the graphics, and big numbers of mobs is the computer's problems. Now, player are another thing, but I thought that depended on server size or something.
And how does computer calculated combat allow for cheating?
That's why i love hack'n'slash games: Action and original quests (at least in diablo 1/2 ;p)
so, lets think... "Clear the Den of Evil" is more interesting than "kill 25 x monsters". Why does it look the same to me? You cant possibly say that the quests of Diablo were better than those of any mmo. Diablos quests are a joke in comparison. Its strength is the fast gameplay and the character planning mainly. Cause when it comes to lvling its WAY more boring to grind 20000000 times Baal, Chaos Sanctuary or whatever than to do escort quests, kill x mobs and then an end boss, do instance quests to kill certain bosses with different strategies each etc. These things are the things an MMO can offer. Diablo didnt.
Btw people, dont keep asking if Diablo 3 will be an MMO. It wont. If an MMO comes out it wont be "called" Diablo 3 but somehow else.
