yeah true. but the extent of the interactiveness can be controlled to allow for space and machines' speed issues.
as for the parties. i don't think it's such a radical change from the previous games. the idea adds on to the feel of the game wherein the object is to level as quickly as humanly possible whilst balancing skills, stats, items and creativity on the battlefield.
for me the game is centered around speed. the faster more cunning i operate my character combined with skills, stats and items the better. Hence, the more options i have with a char the more fun i'll have playing the game. so bring in a char and i have a type of game. bring in another char and i have a completely different game. now bring in 2 different chars at the same time i have even another type of game.
faster, more complex at battle level not char design.
but they need to change the core gameplay otherwise what is the use of releasing a new game? then they might as well release a mega patch with new classes another act or 10. sum more items. etc.
DiabloII has set the bar very high. If DiabloIII is just a suped up DiabloII things will get boring really quickly! Somewhere some drastic changes will need to be implemented. Not in the sense of fixing up mistakes or improving drawbacks that's what patches are for.
Having 1, 2 or even 3 mercenaries would be awesome though. They would have to be weaker and more easily controlled; Increase the AI and commands.
I like the idea of a bunch of mercenaries but having more than 1 character class that you control seems a bit cheap. And it takes away from the online play which is designed so people can have big parties with other people instead of having big parties with themselves
well i only hope the fighting will stay the same. i hate it when you just click once on the enemy and they just attack till they dead. i could go away from my computer get a pop out of the fridge and come back and he still fighting. thats lame to me. and if they did do this then it wouldnt feel like a diablo game.
OH AND ALSO GET RID OF DUPERS AND MAKE B.NET BETTER COZ EVERY1 JUST HACKS AND IT RUINS GAME (but also mh is reasonable because everyplase is so god dam big so it takes u like 40mins just 2 get somewhere) so could there please not be such big places but just more places so we don't have to waste so many hours walking around...
MAP HACK IS NOT RESONABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD DANG! people who say mh is a helpful hack is gay. Maphack ruins the whole entire adventure part of the game.....
I think they should make the game longer. Improve Bnet and the angel demon idea at end sounds prerty cool. Hopefully it wont be to short are to boring. Make it nearly impossible to beat increase the levels into the hundreds maybe like 110 are 120 to keep things going.

I would like to see mobs have ranks, so if you were fighting a group of 10 demons or whatever there would be an officer among them, or atleast a veteran, different to a named character. These would be slightly stronger and have slightly better loot, and if the AI was improved he could command his soldiers to perhaps focus fire or whatever
i'd have to see teleport scaled down considerably, maybe a cooldown on it or something coz it was rediculous getting to the throneroom in 2 mins..
**Im not sure how the next points would work... but thats not my job.. i'll leave that for blizzard**
Also I think it would be awesome if everyone started off neutral, as naive little humans and then you slowly got corrupted or not during the course of the first act to become evil or good... (think in terms of a reputation with 2 factions which you can slowly cross between if you did enough jobs or work for a faction, so you could betray the gods or whatever and slowly become evil even at end game.) Perhaps later in the game when your allegiance with a certain side became stronger and stronger there could be some changes in your appearance from little things like blood shot eyes and hunched back to perhaps becoming a new form entirely like undead, warewolf or whatever.. but if they wanted to stay looking human they could....i haven't really thought it out but im sure you get the point, I think it would be cool if rather than just choosing your char at the start and then playing him for a year or so, your character evolved with the game more.
I think it should also be a more updated multiplayer platform, more similar to WOW with guilds, Auction house, capital cities populated by 1000's but also retaining D2's faster more ActionRPG style gameplay
im not sure... but the world needs to be bigger and... well.. worldly...
I love most of that except I think they shudl make a storyline d3 then make a expansion set that alloud you to choose sides. Me unlike most people want a story line to the game while alot of people like PvP alot more. I dont mind PvP but people seem to be doing it alot most people that i no on diablo2 havent even seen the cinimatics.....Well I guess it could be just me but I like storylines in a game espeshally the diablo storyline. Most people i no get the gmae for PvP that enrages me a little

Oooh.. I just read the idea on transending into demons and angels and stuff... kinda similar to what i was thinking...
Firstly I think the 'transended' would have to be only slightly tougher than regular humans or it would become stink for the rest of the people but what you could do, rather than have like a quest which allows you to transform you could have, like you say, maybe 2% of people become angels or demons, then say people from the opposing faction could come and hunt you down in a party, then steal your special thing-a-ma-jig that gives you your demonly powers (think soulstone) and they transend, it would add a bit more purpose to PVP rather than just dueling it would be hunting... i reckon it would rock...
Yea but wheres the storyline their? I could see if it would help you near your quest to kill diablo but......Why hunting?

kill diablo? im pretty sure diablo is dead...
but yeah it may get a bit off track, but to be honest when has playing diablo really ever been about killing diablo?
ok bare with me.. imagine D2 you go and kill andariel... yay... shes dead...
what if some one extra tough was playing as andariel and you had to go and you could go and jack her up with some gnarled clubs, i am not sure how it would work, but man it would be sweet.. lol
but they need to change the core gameplay otherwise what is the use of releasing a new game? then they might as well release a mega patch with new classes another act or 10. sum more items. etc.

noppelganger I think he more or less meant the same thing as "drastic improvements" when he said "drastic changes" even though improvements would technically be changes...
anyways i agree with this quote, i'd like to see something different in the diablo games... but i'd be happy if they keep it traditional too so i'm one of the lucky people who would like it no matter what.
and also the stuff about hiring more than one mercenary... maybe they could just add more manual-play to the necromancer class in the new game? for people who want to control more than one thing at a time
No it doesn't.
There is no reason to release another Diablo game when the core gameplay changed, think about that.
Whats the use of releasing a new Diablo if it doesn't retain its core gameplay? It doesn't make sense.
What drasting changes? We need drastic improvements, not drastic changes.
Switching from one controled character to a party controled character system is a drastic change, but it isn't an improvement, on the contrary.
If you want drastic changes then play any other non Diablo game, aight?
describe to me your view of core gameplay.
to me it is balancing character skills, stats and items on chosen character class. how well this is done is up to the actual player's ability ( call it xp. )
that's it.
what is the problem with introducing more control over one's party. and yes there are parties (both  beer/food and adventuring) in the game.
in DiabloII the player can sort of give their party member (hireling) items and sort of control their movement and sort of control their damage then she gets to level 29 with a strength of 58 and she has a gothic plate waiting with required str of 60 and the player goes yippee next level she'll be protected but she automatically increases her own str with just one point and the player goes   now i have to wait another level
giving the player more control over his char and hireligs plus adding some extra party quirks for fun hardly seems like a chore change.
I love most of that except I think they shudl make a storyline d3 then make a expansion set that alloud you to choose sides. i like your idea. maybe have a char subclass selection when the player starts the game. and that can blend in nicely with an interactive storyline.
Now you're just trying to run around the issue.
The point was that having direct control over more then one character would be a very bad change, but indeed a change you would want just for the sake of it being a change.
Improvement would make controlling you're character better, it would make the AI of your merc better so that he/she doesn't get in asmuch trouble, you could even add in a feature where you can set the agressivity/defensiveness of your merc, but actually having control over what the merc does goes without a doubt directly against the coregameplay from Diablo.
no. I'm talking full control. Blizzard could program it so that when the player does not have the other char under his/her control (selected) it kicks into AI mode but when levelling up the other chars in the party should be open for the player to allocate stats as they wish. This then brings up new skills too
just think about the possibilities! using DiabloII as a foundation: a Sorc with an Archer merc the player can now plan a Sorc and an Archer. just by doing this a new char class is brought into play with minimal effort. Currently the player does not have to put much thought into his or her merc. Just get some kewl items and voila. It'll expand the possibilities. If I get sick of my Sorc then I skip over to my Archer and my Sorc kicks into AI mode. If I see my AI char is in trouble (AI chars will always get in trouble -no system is flawless) I skip over to them move them where I want them and skip back to my main char to continue fighting...
That actually sounds fun... Reminds me of that Xman game...
But yea, I'd tottally get into that. At first I thought you ment just choosing the 5+ stats like you do with your D2 char, then I realized you ment switching and having AI for the one your not playing. Yea I think it would be a great idea.
@Wizz, That's an awesome idea. It would totally expand the possiblities of builds because you would never really be playing by yourself, but yea AI would be neccessary.

Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.
Or imagine building a shield barbarian with gg def gear then building a glass cannon bowazon.
Of course, intellegent AI would be essential...
