I am probably the only one opposed to this, but I like the complete uncertanity that you get. If drops were to be logical, then if I played as a Sorceress and met some minotaurs, I would instrantly consider it worthless to beat them, while if they can drop everything you are always on edge, and that's a big contributing factor to Diablo's success.
EDIT: An example is Oblivion. The monsters ALWAYS drop the same things. If it has a sword, it drops a sword, and it is so boring!
You guys forget that diablo is a action game, with rpg elements, not a rpg game like Baldru's, NWN, Oblivion, etc..
That kind of realism don't apply to the game. TQ have it and sucked alot imo.
And those ''fixed'' drops really prejudice the economy. If i'm a Mace Barbarian i would farm the guys who drop mauls (like a Armored Knight). Then i've no chance of droping wands, so I want trade with wand users ?
Much better random drops, were i get items from all the classes and trade with then for my items.
This way the game becomes more fun.

They could just as easily randomize the item when the monster spawned as when the monster died. Think about it. There's no reason why monsters shouldn't be using the items they drop.

Yes there is. First, not all monster use items. (lo lwts kill spiders using halberds !)
Second, it would be very strange some monsters use some items (like a Flayer using a maul or a Dark Rogue using a wand, or even those Thrashers using swords).
Third monsters can allways drop more then one item of the same type (like two helms. One of those treefolks using a cap and a full helm at the same time would be beatyfull ).
Forth it's not viable to creat a monster model wearing each armor of the game. To much work for nothing.
