As excited as I am for the new sets(Particularly the potential for Raekor's, EQ, Thorns and the M6 comeback possibly with YR+DML), I think this no-set-set is pretty exciting too. I imagine Depth Diggers will be a big thing for these types of builds(Gyrfalcons, Bastion's Revered frenzy build, Dishonored Legacy+boulder toss bracers, etc)
Well, first of all since the damage bonus should be multiplicative, suddendly all proc items which scale really bad in higher difficulties will become more interesting. So i can see more use of stuff like Sash of Knives and so on.
Second, since they're adding the Channeling spaulders, i'm going for a Rapid Fire DH build. Since there's no set atm buffing the skill, maybe this is the way to make it viable again. Cindercoat + Grenades rune will help a lot, Spaulders and the 2h xbow. Will likely add the Spike Trap as complementary skill because reasons.
Shotgun sader with Ivory Tower (likely to be renamed to aa12 sader), also avatar build might arise with new legs and obviously static charge monk will be even bigger than it is right now.
disintegrate build with new shoulders + cindercoat + all the proc items i can fit in, like andariel's helm, pox faulds, thunderfury, moonlight ward, sash of knives and toxic + pain enhancer + stricken using a GG ancient furnace as weapon for the high 2h dmg.

Most of the builds will be smth like for "The Thrill" achievement - some items are really more powerful, than another.
For example, as a crus, there is no other option now as Johanna's Argument+Gabriel's Vambraces+Guard of Johanna.
These 2 builds won't be any good unless they will add more related legendary powers. FoH has 1 corresponding legendary, and for blessed shield gryfalcons feels exetremely superfluous. From what we have now only shotgun is going to work. But not just work, it seems to be AMAZING with this new shield that is basically bane of the stricken on serious steroids. 20% multiplicative increase from every attack? Possibly 60% with fotf and going through the roof with procs of ivory tower.. Probably one of the strongest builds in the game.
So lets assume it is like 10%.. Thats 100% with one jekang hit, hehe. Although if they would remove word "enemy" from second power it would be explicitly more orgasmic.
helm: mask of jeram
chest:
belt: belt of transcendence
pants: pox faulds
boots: iceclimbers
shoulders: While channeling ..firebats.., you deal X increased damage and take 25% reduced damage
gloves: tasker & theo
bracers: the one that gives lifesteal for bats
amulet: HF amulet
main hand: cinderswitch?
cubed weapon: SMK
cubed armor: tasker & theo
cubed jewelry: the garg ring
not sure what item slot: Firebats attacks 100% faster and costs X less Mana.
firebats, bbv, garg, fetish army, zdogs or put piranhado somewhere in there
passives: grave inustice, confidence ritual, midnight feast, pierce the veil, swampland, tribal rites
have to weigh which passives would be better. technically this would go with the compass rose set too, but the bonus is smaller compared to the nightmare set
Ok, so apparently there's an item that removes the channeling cost of rapid fire - this makes suddendly viable any kind of weapon due to the skill having a fixed cost (you won't be spamming it faster thus draining more hatred). Fleshing out the build a little - looking forward a fire/grenades build - hoping that the rapid fire item is not a weapon (hope any piece of armor, or quiver).
I've chosen Anathema for fancy grenades, and if the RF channeling remove item is not a weapon (i so hope it) running with Helltrapper + Demon's Demise.
800*13 = 10400% increased damage. It's really high and will very likely tuned down - but by not that much, since single legendaries greatly mprove the efficiency of certain skills but don't provide synergies as great as some sets.
I think a 450-500% wil end to be the final iteration.
there were two that were displayed, right? one says 800, another says 75? Not quite sure which one will be used though..
I have to disagree with the synergies though.. i think what sets provide is a themed set of skills with ridiculous multipliers - but if we can get the multiplier without the set like these rings do, and assuming every single proc will scale with that, the damage output would definitely be competitive.
take for example stalgard's decimator: Your melee attacks throw a piercing axe at a nearby enemy, dealing 700% weapon damage as Physical
this procs with every attack - it's not just a chance thing..
say we continue to work with physical damage..
sash of knives: With every attack, you throw a dagger at a nearby enemy for 650% weapon damage as Physical
again, this procs with every attack..
we'll have to wait and see for PTR/live, but that's got a lot of potential with just two items working off that set..

Agree about competitveness - my point was that since we have to work with different standalone items, the raw damage multipliers will likely be tuned a little higher compared to the ones we have in the sets.
IIRC the multiplier is actually 800 and wyat Cheng confirmed via Twitter that the 75 one was an outdated picture from internal tests. On PTR it will be shipped as 800 and then tuned accordingly.
I'm very hyped for this set! Made a "true" static monk for it No idea if it is awesome or not. Keep in mind that I play HC, therefore the build is aimed for that.

I'm trying to think of something about smite.
Armor of Kind Regent
Golden Scourge
Depth Diggers
I feel like I'm missing another item related to smite though.. would work great with the mirinae and gogok.
Barb full pet build! Seriously. You know how hard those Ancients will hit?!?!

Imo, condemn with standart HF can be better - far more quickly stacking than in shotgun.

We should work around procs:
weapons:
fulminator
schaefers
tfury
odyn son
shard of hate
sky splitter
cinder switch
scourge
stalgard's
sunder
armor:
thundergod's vigor
andariel's
sash of knives
firewalkers
pox faulds
jewelry:
hellfire ring
wyrdward
if their proc dmg scales with the nightmare set, the damage of these items would be huge!
poison bat melee pet
rings: litany & wailing host
helm: mask of jeram

belt: belt of transcendence

edit: nvm my math was wrong lol
how much more dmg will u do with full ancient legendary gear + these rings?

75% is from an old screenshot.
It is confirmed that first iteration on PTR will be 800%.

Mostly done for fun but, you know, could be fun to play
EDIT: Aaaaaaaaand of cause I'm only using 2.3 items because none of the others are out but you get the idea!
