Isometric camera is one of the defining points of diablo. Also, its vital the to the "point&click" gameplay. If you switch to an over the should, rotating 3rd person, or first person view, you would have to completely rework the controls.
The graphics are indeed "nice" but they aren't really 3D with true depth.
The Diablo games are designed to allow tons of pets / monsters / heroes and NPCs on the screen at once.
If we went FPS style then the game would grind to a halt.
And in Diablo we are used to seeing the "big picture" all at once.
Heck, this is a very fundamental characteristic if Diablo. It was probably the first (and by all reports only) thing the Blizzard North designers agreed upon.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.

Sure the OP fails at asking questions but honestly, is it that hard to read a couple of posts down to find out what he actually meant?
He didn't want it to be first person, he wants it to be a free floating camera, not fixed.
You really do not see the "big picture" with an isometric view. But changing that would require reworking the click to attack slightly. And I'd say a game like Age of Empires is a game designed to allow tons of characters on screen. RPGs never have a lot of things on your screen.

No, pretty easy really. I hope you were able to too. Why the agro? Let's lighten up a little, like the new D3 art!

We all know that.

You do see the big picture with isometric. As much as we're allowed to see. It's because we're at a 3/4 view from above. We can't zoom out, but that would spoil the game anyway.

I'm talking in the context of D2 where a group of Necros with maxed out revives and some skel mages and golems are battling a horde. That's a lot of movement for the game to manage. Lucky the graphics aren't loaded with polys and the need to render tons of textures on the fly or the game would stall. In other words: D2 often has lots of things on the screen.

What if it was topside-down, not isometric, but viewed from behind the character (3rd person)?
Wouldn't work because of the smaller viewable area. And if you're fighting tons of enemies you could see less and it would be less visually imposing looking at only the first 5 rows in front of you.
Needless to say it won't be Diablo. Might be Hellgate though.

lol it can still easily be a ranger since who said you cant shoot arrows at melee distance xD

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees
Yeah, top down from behind I think would require the environment to rotate with the hero. Would overload the engine.
And D2 and surely D3 will have lots of spells being cast and each has a visible effect. There's a ton of work for the graphics engine to do.
Each action is very specific too. It not like some other games where your army of a thousand is just marching forward with little variation - it's not like everyone of the troops is really uniquely represented.

4 people voted camera be changed rofl
LOL. I can understand the debate over the simple / ancient technology of the D3 graphics and how some perceive a move towards WoW but this one about the isometric view.... there really is no argument.

I say go play Oblivion if you want a different view. The top-down is what helps to define the game, and is what so many others try to copy when making a Diablo-clone. Removing it would make Diablo like every other game out there that is not Diablo.

I still remember when Metroid came out as a first person shooter.... I died a little inside.
