I play mostly with 1-2 other people, but I've often done my own bounty farming in seasons past as well as run solo grift farmed to level up gems. The amount of whining about this whole "disparity" is hilarious.
The only "solution", really, would simply be to have Solo characters, which then would have to be divvied up between SC/HC and seasonal/non-seasonal. That way there can be proper solo leaderboards, if you want to call them that.
@Kazgrel, I think that is exactly what the OP is proposing (except with a convert from solo to group button). Personally, I think doing so is a bad idea.

It's not so much a bad idea as it is a solution in need of a problem. So yeah, in that sense, it's a bad idea. But were such a thing implemented, I wouldn't be bothered one bit, so long as any non-solo specific characters could actually do solo content.
I prefer solo play myself, I like being in control of what I do and where I go in the game. However, I noticed very quickly that if I wanted to compete in this game I had ZERO options but play with others, this was because the single player leaderboards were filled with people who were multiplayers that did single player Rift runs, thus polluting the single player boards.
Now to be honest, I have ZERO expectation of ever being on a leaderboard, seeing that the leaderboard is nothing but a display of people who have nothing better to do with time but play. While I would love that opportunity in life, I simply do not have it. As a result I simply understand that I am the casual player.
However, I understand what people who prefer to play single player are feeling. The field is not level, multiplayer people polluting the single player boards is silly and a poor choice on blizzards part.
I too am a person who prefers to play solo. I have barely spent any time in multiplayer games since D3 launched .. a few games with friends, and a few public games which are what led me to conclude that I prefer solo. Not because the people in them were bad or anything, but I just prefer doing my own thing at my own pace to rushrushrush.
Anyway, I think that right now, you have to basically consider solo D3 and multiplayer D3 to be two completely different games. I think the difference between solo D3 and group D3 is much larger than the difference between Softcore and Hardcore, for instance. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that you can progress your characters between 10x and 100x faster grouping than you can solo. I have friends who are already in Season 4 more advanced (better gears, higher paragon levels) than my best
non-Season characters.
So the only way to enjoy solo, imho, is to keep that mindset, and not even compare yourself to other players. This means some parts of the game are less meaningful - for instance, the addition of T7 - T10 to the game means nothing to me because I can't handle T6 even. That's OK, as long as the solo game is still an enjoyable game - and for me, it is!
Luckily for me, I don't care about leaderboards at all. Even if, as you proposed, the single-player leaderboard only counted people who had never grouped, I still wouldn't have any chance of getting anywhere near it, because there would be far more than enough players who play 5x the hours I do who would completely thrash me.
I do understand, though, that if you genuinely care about the competitive aspect, D3 does not currently provide that at all for solo players. That's a shame, and it would be nice if players like yourself were able to enjoy that competitive action.
I simply am amazed that many people do not want a leaderboard for SOLO players. To be honest, I am not sure why people feel its a bad idea. The SOLO players all seem to want to be able to compete and play their way. Not be forced into grouping or suffer being left behind.
For me, I don't care, I will not ever chase leader boards, to old for that stuff. However, I see the issue clearly and agree that there is an issue. Diablo 3 was always billed as a Single Player game with a multi-player aspect. I remember a time when the forums were filled with posts from people wanting MP to be better and less of a drag. Well, the pendulum has shifted, the once Single Player game with a multi-player component is now a Multi-player game with a single player component.
This issue is not going away and it needs to be addressed.
I do thank most of you for keeping this a conversation and not a SP VER MP bashing.
Diablo 3 was always billed as a Single Player game with a multi-player aspect.
When was this the case? I seem to recall it being promoted as a multi-player game that could be played solo. The fact that it requires an internet connection kind of undermines the solo-first aspect that you are suggesting. While it is true that in early vanilla MP was garbage compared to SP, Blizzard immediately recognized that as a MASSIVE problem, because they wanted to promote MP over SP.
Regarding solo players not wanting to be forced into grouping, your solution would PREVENT them from grouping if they ever decide that they want to. To me, that is an unacceptable solution.

Early when Diablo 3 came out it was considered a Single Player game with Multi-Player aspects. Over time, it changed into what it is now.
As to your comment about not being able to go to multi-player. Are hard core players allowed to stop being hard core and switch to SC? No, they are not, as such I would not expect SOLO play to ever be allowed back to MP. If you want MP, roll a MP char.
Let me clarify, I do not hate group play, not sure why it seems I do. Early Diablo 3 was more Single Play with options to join friends. Lets be clear, one of the biggest factors for Blizzard to promote group play way above SOLO is the number of servers and resources it takes. Again, I simply see no reason not to allow and provide a place where SOLO players can play and compete with each other.
SOLO players are not asking for more EXP, not asking for better drops solo players simply want to play solo without being penalized for playing the way they want. After reading many threads here is the bottom line.
1. EXP gains between SP and MP need to be brought inline. MP get faster kills and faster clears thus more EXP so why do they need this crazy bonus handout?
2. Bounties, this one I have to agree with and it does impact my ability to play. Make Bounties easier for single players, single players can not game the system, even when it is clear blizzard does not want you gaming the system.
3. SOLO leader board with NO MP entries on the leader board. Keep your single player leader board for people who MP then jump to Single Player GRIFTS. I simply do not know how this impact you MP people and why it harms you in any way, let the SOLO players have the SOLO leaderboards.
