Please keep all DIII in-game graphics discussion here. ~Atrumentis
hey guys, i was just wondering if anyone (i know eldius states he was on a board and that gave me the idea) thinks its a good idea to write a letter to blizzard expressing any major concerns that we have and have voted on. Then we can send this to them via email and pray for a response in email or even better, in the game ;).
1. The graphics need to look more realistic (Diablo-esque)...not like WoW.
2. Some of the demons/monsters need to be renamed. (Thousand Pounder?)
3. The lighting and texture need to be altered a bit. (Darker environments and more corpses are good)
4. The new skill & damage systems need to be a tad more like that which was in Diablo II. As is, it is too much like Wow and Guild Wars.
5. They need to reintroduce the majority of classes in the previous installment to properly continue the story.
6. The inventory is interesting, but again, too much like WoW and Guild Wars.
7. Despite the new concept of health orbs being innovative, they make the game too easy and less Diablo like.
8. Despite the Witch Doctor being a new and interesting class which had much thought placed into it, it isn't exactly crucial to the storyline nor does it follow the (original or Knaak) lore.
Second time I've seen this, and you still haven't put more detail into points 4 and 6...
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Ranger - Ranged Weapon Mastery (fire a bow or javelins like a machine gun!), Traps (MK style!), Pets (lions, tigers, and bears oh my!) - physical damage based
Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic
LEAP ATTACK!!!!! PLAGUE OF TOADS!!!!!
SLOW TIME!!!!!
please take note of all that made the past Diablo's (more so Diablo 2) successful, and implement it completely into D3. I understand that you guys want to add new stuff to it and are looking at other games such as God of War, but the thing is, you need to look no further than Diablo 2. It is simply the greatest game ever, and i for one would much rather you play it safe, than screw with a good formula that is NOT broken.
1.) Please have the difficulty be hard as Diablo 2 was. I don't know if i like the health orbs, as they may make the game to easy, but i am not sure of that just yet.
2.) Make sure the skill trees are trees of some sort and have a lot of customization. Half the fun in Diablo 2 was making endless amounts of characters because not every character is the same as another. There were many ways of creating characters, such as having a hammerdin, conviction and zeal paladin, or fanatacism and zeal paladin. I have little problems with slight respecing, but i definitely have HUGE problems with complete respecing, as it takes this element of uniqueness and replayability away.
3.) I know you already have an art style, but please try your best to make the game as dark, gritty, and evil as possible. That being said i believe the graphics are slightly different than WoW and are better by far.
4.) Do NOT have a subscription added to the game. it is ridiculous for this type of game and will no doubt lower the amount of buyers (as far as i know).
5.) Have an array of arreas that are like the dungeon shown in the video, as well as big open fields that were all over in diablo 2.
6.) Rework anything that isnt like diablo (weapons, runes, gems, charms, inventory, chest, health and mana regeneration, and so on), into being somehtign that is very much like diablo (2 that is), but evolved.
I've noticed alot of people complaining about the current state of the graphics and how they think it might just become another Wow clone, but i think a lot of people are forgetting that the demo was just that a demo (I dont thing it was to showcase its graphics, but to show some of the ideas they plan on introducing into the game).
I don't think that how it is now will be any where near what the game will be like when it comes out after all this is Blizzard we are talking about and i have yet to be let down by them. Also we have to remember that Wow was influenced by both Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 yet still came out feeling new yet familiar. I'm sure that they will use what they learned from making Wow to better make Diablo 3.
I will say I am surprised about the witchdocter and feel that they may replace the necromancer with it (i really hope I'm wrong, I always felt that the necromancer was right at home in that game).
personally I've always played the Diablo franchise to see what happens next in the story. It's always captivated me, and as long as they continue to do so in Diablo 3 I won't care what it looks like....mostly.
I don't agree that this should just be a graphical update for Diablo 2, might as well just keep playing Diablo 2 and not bother with a sequel. Diablo II was nothing like Diablo I and was far better and Warcraft II far surpassed Warcraft I - look at Hellgate: a Diablo II clone if I've ever seen one, complete with Wirt, town portal and identify scrolls, and yet not much fun to play. I think the designers should be giving a bit of leeway here.
At the same time, when I think Diablo I think corpses hung from trees, grim cloudy skies and rain - it's a grim depressing world, and even if there was colour in the original games there wasn't that degree of brightness and, especially, light bloom we can see in the outside environment when the player first emerges - I think it looks perfect when the rain comes in though: very Diablo.
Oh, and I agree with InsaneGirl - Diablo is a LAN party game par excellence - not having LAN would be like not having feet (I apologise to all those footless readers who may have been offended by this analogy).
Don't you all think that there should be something implemented such as light radius. That's what I think gave Diablo 2 a really frightening feeling in dungeons etc, not knowing where the enemies are, not knowing what they are until they are right on top of you?
TBH I think the best way to fix the graphics would be to take out this green/blue tone throughout the game, slightly make the graphics more gritty/sharp and reduce saturation, this combined with the light radius, or similar effect, would add a really eery vibe. This wouldn't change the graphics drastically at all, just make it better.
I have yet to see many people mention this, all I see is saturation etc etc DARKEN DARKEN, I think it needs to be to a degree, but tbh Light radius did wonders for d2.
DUnno the dark places just forced me to navigate with the map rather than the game itself because it was sometimes hard to see some doors etc. Maybe there should be such things in dungeons or something. But the light effects in d2 wasn't so great or realistic. Like that brazier there it should really light up a bigger area.

- More blood
the game graphics are prolly temporal, they ll work a lot in textures later, at least i hope they do.

Be somewhat grateful Diablo 3 is even announced!
If you have a problem with the graphics style, just ask Blizzard nicely... PLUS patiently wait for the game to come out.
1) Don't just complain. Also tell Blizzard what you liked.
2) Don't Rush/keep nagging Blizzard when the game will come out. LET them take all the time they NEED to make a perfect, or almost perfect game!!!
