Well a lot of people want something similar to the Druid class from D2... which had elements of WoW's Druid in it, so yeah that's inevitable. I'd love for them to come up with something wildly different to anything we have seen in Diablo or any other Blizzard game before, but as I pointed out, their class choices in the game so far all seem to have been variations of classes we have seen before.
So you say D2 druid had elements of wow's druid? more like the other way around since Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction expansion came out in 2001 and wow in 2004.

i think druid might work if it had an option to be a ranged class in human mode with spears or something (javelins)? and turn into a bear or wolf and do melee
Shapeshifting Druid, with forms that you can only pick one of to take at a time (just like saders and monks with auras and whatnot). Maybe Wolf for duel wielding / Bear for 2 hander / Chimera (idk w/e) for casting. Whichever forms, I've always invisioned the D3 Druid to be a melee / caster hybrid, with only a couple summon spells.
A lot of people seem to want a Druid in D3, but Blizz seem more interested in creating new takes on familiar classes so far with the game...
So how about this take on the Druid type class? I'm thinking call them a Shaman, and have them be a melee fighter who channels the elemental forces of nature to empower their attacks. So one ability could be for them to unleash specific elemental damage with each swing of their weapon, like waves of fire or lighting drifting around them after each hit. On top of that, they could channel spirit animals which partially transform them in order to buff their skills and abilities. Channel the spirit of a bear would make them more of a tank for example, while the spirit of the wolf would increase attack power.
Don't take this as me trying to be a jerk, because this is a legitimate question for you: How is what you are suggesting any different than the way that the monk operates with it's mantras, or crusader with their auras, or barbs with their shouts? I am interested in knowing how you can see that class' actions be unique from the others.
Well that in itself exposes how similar the games existing classes are to each other, which is maybe a formula the games needs in order to keep things balanced and so on.
That is actually a very good comment. It could be that you are correct that having some formulaic implementation of classes is what ensures balance, even if it means that new classes are essentially re-skinned versions of existing classes.
I really enjoyed playing the druid back in D2, and I would love to see that become a new class option in D3. Some people mentioned the necro, which was also a fun class in D3. I can't really see the necro coming back in D3, it seems to me that the WD was blizz's way of reinventing that class for the new game.
I love the druid idea because of the ability to build as a caster or melee... but then I think, wait, the Crusader can do that now as well. So I really dont know what direction they will go.. nostalgia tells me to wish for the druid, but I dont know if that would be the best thing for the game.
Whatever it is that they do come up with, I hope its home run and not a strike-out ;]
I don't know what they'll call it, but a vitality class would be something quite interesting. The idea could tie in quite well with the 'idea' of a Druid. A class with low natural armor, low natural resistances, but unusually high life. Deriving it's damage from vitality points the same way we see with the current main stat paradigm, a lycanthrope who's damage type is determined by his current animal channeling.
Something squishy but with a deep life pool, able to utilize old Inferno style life steal tactics.
Trap skills could be very interesting in D3 with a class like this, and would work well with the idea of a naturist like the Druid. One of the Druids (d2) iconic skills was the use of tornadoes, something we have too much of already.
Keep the shape-shifting (lycanthropy), lose the tornadoes (wind), and meld trapping into a Vita based main stat character.
It would be quite fun if Blizz just... Accepted that Zdps is a thing and made a full on support class. They'd have SOME soloability, but a majority of their skills and abilites would be buffs and support skills.
Maybe make a Shifter with three possible forms, a high dps squishy ranged form, a tanky melee form and a mid range support form.

A hoplite/legionnaire/spear man and a skinwalker/druid and a bard. This game needs a bard. P:
