I saw a thread about 10 things wrong with D3 and someone asked why no one list 10 things that they love about D3. I took them up on that offer and I challenge the rest of the community to contribute their items to this thread.
1. The Story. I think that the story of D3 ties in very well with the lore of the franchise. I'm excited to see how they continue to grow the series over the next expansion.
2. No talent trees. I know that some people will argue about this, but I like the fact that I can get a new set of gear on one character and not have to level up another character to experience a different playstyle. Honestly, if I had to do that, I would only have one or two characters, not one of each class.
3. The challenge of the monster affix. I like the diversity in the skills that they give to elites. I would hope that they expand these options and improve upon some of the existing affixes to have them apply more to the post-RoS environment.
4. The followers. Sure, the followers were too chatty in the beginning and that made them annoying, but I like the fact that they actually have a back story. They aren't just some sort of mindless mercenary/zealot following you while you slaughter the hordes of hell.
5. Covetous Shen. I think this is a brilliant character and I really think that there is something going on here. I feel like he is a figure that will surprise us in a future expansion/installment. (Could he be someone much more powerful in disguise?)
6. Kadala. I think she is utterly evil for a couple reasons and I love it. First, she is the "physical" embodiment of RNG and is a place for me to take my anger out on bad rolls and gambling losses. Second, I have a theory that she is collecting these shards to bring Diablo back. As we destroy the most powerful demons, we collect their blood shards and exchange them for more powerful items to kill more powerful demons and collect more blood shards. It's a compounding scheme that allows for her to get to end game without having to put forth effort.
7. The environments. I really like the way that the design team has brought in different architectures, layouts (open field vs dungeon, etc.), and widgets, such as traps. I think they can continue to expand upon the traps concept and make them something to consider when playing through the level.
8. Adventure mode. I liked playing through the story in Vanilla, but I got sick of it after a couple of times. Adventure mode gives me the ability to decide on what I would like to focus on instead of Alkaizer runs for hours on end.
9. Greater Rifts. These are fantastic. Sure, they still have some ways to improve, but I think that tying these to different incentives (leg gems and blood shards) and allowing them to grow with your power as it increases is a very good mechanic for keeping them challenging.
and finally...
10. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that sound the game makes when you crunch a bunch of skeletons or zombies with a good barb charge, frozen orb, cluster arrow, etc.
I love doing a grift and getting the a2 map with sand doors. Mobs refuse to move through them, you cant shoot through them, so you get to walk in and get jailed, or jumped on by 25 winged assasins
I'll boil down all the things I love about D3 into one thing I love:
.. Every time I fire up a game and jump into it, as soon as I'm tearing into monsters, I'm having fun.
I'm not a leaderboard-challenging full-set-wearing 30-second-rift-clearing uber player. Don't expect I ever will be. My strongest characters, with hundreds of hours play, are far far weaker than some people I inspected on day one of the season 3 launch. But that has never made it any less fun for me to jump into appropriate difficulty content (maybe T3, T4, 20-ish Grifts, whatever) and fight. Once the explosions start exploding, monsters being sucked in or blown away, barrels shattering, body parts flying, cooldowns popping .. always pure enjoyment.
1) The combat. Very innovative and perhaps the biggest success of the Jay Wilson era. JW catches a lot of flak for his failures, but the effort and thought that went into combat dynamics is apparent and the result superb.
2) Audio and Visual; Terrific. The sound effects are an aspect that rarely gets mentioned, but if you play with 128 channels and have a decent sound system, the audio effects bleed through nicely. Graphically, smooth and appealing. Aside from Act 4 (which I found to be an eyesore), the tile-sets for most of the game is IMO the best looking ARPG I've ever seen.
3) I never thought I'd say this, but the itemization has gotten in a pretty good place. Some of the lone (non-set) Legs are really inspired and remind us of how far items have come since launch nearly 3 years ago.
4) Blizzard's continued support and passion to develop Diablo 3 well beyond it's release date. Though I must say, if they don't release 1 more xpac, I would consider it a crime.
The game overall needs one more big push from an xpac to get it where it should be, but there are many things to love about D3.
7) Treasure goblins - if you tell me you don't enjoy killing them i will simply say: "Liar, liar pants on fire!" When i hear that sound ("Yuuuhooooo...") they make when you approach close (but still not visible on map) my mind immediately goes 'greed mode' - "GIMME GIMME GIMME! :-)
Haha.. I got a Nagelring basically the instant I hit 70 this season, and it was a massive power boost for me. But the little maniacs from the ring make a noise so similar to Treasure Goblins that it was desensitizing me to the sound!!
I'm going from the current iteration of Diablo 3 RoS and as such I have one extremely satisfying aspect that stands above all the others in my mind. That is its momentum. The game continues to push forward. Brutally so at times and not always at the speed or clarity I may wish. I can apply similar affectations to Diablo 2. Who could have guessed where that was going at release? Likewise when I look at Diablo 3, I am just astonished where it is from where it was.

This is my exact sentiment about D3. It may have its flaws (and they are many) but even still, the game is fun. I still load up D2 every once and a while, and even starting a lvl 1 character and getting as far as the monastery is satisfying to me.
For me it's not about the destination... it's about the journey.

Most assuredly, this is the best way to quantify the allure that D3 has, even with all the contentious discussions about all that is wrong with the game.
At it's core, this ARPG plays very well and offers loads of fun. A list of ten things we love about the game is unnecessary in the face of this single word, "fun".
I haven't played all week, not really had the time to sink my teeth into it, so much going on etc. But in a few days, my business is done and some time off is coming. I know that I'll sit down with a fresh bag of grass and binge this game until my wrists crack.
To this point; Diablo 3 is the most played game in my personal 37 years of experience playing games. I'm talking raw hours here. More-so than Diablo 2, more-so than Guild Wars 1.
I played Diablo 2 on and off for about 7 1/2 years. Diablo 3 has only been out for less than 3, and I've well eclipsed my D2 mark, in terms of hours.

What do you all love about D3?
