So, inspired by Mad Tom's Seasonal Monk diary ( http://www.diablofans.com/forums/diablo-iii-general-forums/diablo-iii-general-discussion/113928-my-monk-s2-diary ), I decided I'd write up something similar, but the thing is I only recently got back into D3 a month or two ago, and am still playing catch up when it comes to the nuances. Also, I play mostly solo for now. I decided to try out Demon Hunter after switching toons a few times, but had never played it before and learned a lot about it recently. I had also not played through story mode in forever, so instead of leveling straight from Adventure Mode, I decided to clear campaign first. I started on normal, and upped the difficulty level each act. So by act 5, I was on T1. This is actually where I first started dying and having issues killing things. Ended up knocking it back down to normal just to kill off Mathial and be done with it, and was 58 after that, so I did Act 1 bounties using the strategy outline by Debo here: http://www.diablofans.com/forums/diablo-iii-class-forums/witch-doctor-the-mbwiru-eikura/103714-debos-the-24-hour-witch-doctor I figured I'd just leave it on normal and blaze through it, upping the levels one I got good gear.
So, at 70, and after picking over what I had on my power leveled Monk (turns out getting power leveled wasn't very fun, so I just shelved the Monk for now) and crafting a couple pieces, I had a L60 Wyrdward, and rolled 20% Lightning damage on my Reaper's Wraps, so figured I'd start off lightning. Also got dmg bonues to Multishot, so using that instead of EArrow - Ball Lightning, and Entangling Shot for generator due to the ability on my Bow. In addition, I got a L69 Glass of Life that will go nicely with Wraps and Blood Vengence. So, right now my goal is to swiftly farm Act 1, 3, and 4 bounties and reset game for each clear to try and get RoRG and Pride's Fall (just in case). Also will check Caverns of Aranae and Core of Arreat too for goblins and hopefully get Boon of the Hoarder soon. Then/inbetween, running Rifts, again, on normal as per this tip from Rhykker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytWqpl832FM Will be spending Blood Shards on Marauder pieces as layed out here on Reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo3DemonHunters/wiki/new70
This is gonna be interactive, if you have any tips, constructive criticism, or suggestions, feel free to shout them out. I'll update as anything interesting happens.
Good luck and generous drops to you! I started the exploration of DH gameplay not so long ago and it is a valuable experience, the character is really very different from others.
Hope you will get your Marauder set soon enough, it's really the key to high levels. My girl without Mara pieces was able to do T3 easily, after some tweaks and advices from friendly people here was able to get to T5-6 with only 2 Mara items and full Natalya's bonuses (died after meeting with two hard Elite packs, though), but it was a difficult way. May be this discussion will help you a bit with skills and build: http://www.diablofans.com/forums/diablo-iii-class-forums/demon-hunter-the-dreadlands/114627-stuck-at-gr18-lol-what-am-i-doing-wrong.
As of right now I consider you removing Blood Vengeance from passives and replacing it with Cull the Weak. It's a solid bonus to your damage since you are getting enemies slowed by Entangling Shot. You should have enough Hatred from ES, Wraps, Bat, Preparation and Templar, especially if you run Fire at Wil Multishot.
First of all, reroll a socket on your weapon and put Emerald in it - that's mandatory, you will see damage numbers rise significantly. If you have enough Souls, try to reroll some stats like +% to Crit Chance on your helm (instead of Skill bonus), +Skill on Quiver and Boots to Multishot, AllResist on belt, Vit on Armor. Since you're playing SoftCore, survivability isb't that crucial for you, as it was for me, but frequent deaths slow you down considerably. On the other hand, you're gonna change these items in the future and save your Souls for Mara's.
If you will find yourself bored or not very effective with Multishot, try Cluster Arrow-Maelstrom and introduce Ballistics instead of Archery or Ambush. You'll possibly need new Reaper Wraps with Cold dmg, but even without it give it a try. I've experienced a huge boost in my damage after moving to CA from Elemental Arrow and MS.
If you're having troubles with fast killing of Rift Guardians or other fat mobs, try Singled Out passive, it gives a very high Crit Chance against dolo enemies. Its effectiveness gets weaker as you accumulate Crit Chance on your gear, though, would not recommend it after you get 45-50% CC.
So, once again, good luck on your journey, have fun - after all, that's the most important aspect of any game, isn't it?
GL with this. It's a really cool idea. But, you know M6 only drops on Torment, right? The RoS sets are Torment only drops. Not saying Rhykker's advice is all bad. But, I've watch a bunch of his videos and they are usually out dated with Patch Metagame. And he's a bit of a noob in gameplay. A better source is Philosophios where he mainly focuses on pushing the Metagame with new builds with Theorycrafting. Rhykker is more like Wikapedia or the old Reader Digest. He mostly scours Reddit for builds and makes Youtube videos with the gathered information. So gather your shards, but make a new game and spend them in T6 then remake in lower difficulties. I'm not exactly certain how whether T6 matters with Kadala but 2.1.1 patched higher Leg drop rates with higher torments. They even changed the wording in the level description where bonuses are stated. Since you'll be bouncing in an out of Torment to do this, it only makes sense to go to the highest one. At T6, will a 500 shard cap, I usually get between 2-5 Leg drops, and it's very rare to get no Leg drops. Mind you, this is Kadala, so 2 pairs of Ancient Hammer Jammers is to be expected.
Oh and hunting for Goblins is best in normal Rifts doing full clears to see if you get goblin packs. This is probably a bug that Blizzard decided to leave in the game, because it was cooler to not fix the issue. I state this because in the 2.1.2 PTR these Packs were spawning in Greater Rifts and it was admitted it was a bug with having the newer goblins. Maybe the packs are intended, for Rifts and they just missed an if statement in there code. Who knows, but, these only occur in Rifts. Really funny stuff, the game has trains you to ignore every other monster and chase goblins. So, when you see 20 Goblins just hanging out, hunter mode kicks in. Then you realize, WTF there's not supposed to be loot in a GR.
Thanks for the tip and positive feedback! Yesterday, shortly after posting this, one of my few friends that play actually came on and had some time to carry me through some rifts (normal and greater) Got some sweet L Gems (Trapped, Powerful, Zei's, and a couple more), and some nice upgrades. Highlights include plans that yielded Ancient pants, an Ancient belt he didn't need, a nice 1 hand bow (That for the love of god won't roll a socket after a bunch of wasted Souls. No Gifts either yet.), and a Natayla's chest (heard that set was getting some possible use in the future). Kadala, while not coughing up any Marauders yet, did compensate me with Magefist and Firewalkers. Taking this as I sign, I did get Fire damage on my Wraps and switched to a Cluster Arrow Fire build. Also, since it's just normal for now, I'm using the Scoundrel, as he's strapped with hand me downs and I found the 50% cdr token for him. Gave him all the cc talents to help with CtW
I know you don't get the Torment elusive legendary drops, but the logic is to get what does drop as fast as possible for any possible upgrades, or worst case extra Souls (won't say no to that). I can still spend shards for possible Marauders. I figured I don't have to worry about RoRG farming too much till I have close to set bonuses, so today is gonna be a lot of rift runs. I've got over 150 keys to burn, lol. Hopefully by the end of today I'll be good to go for farming T1 with relative ease. I may be there now, but I'm not sure yet. Will update profile page very shortly.
Nice to read that you're getting gear improvements, let's hope that RNG is on your side!
A bit of advice about Leg Gems that you're gonna use. The common options for end-game DH are Zei's, BotP and BotT, there are variants like Taeguk. But in the early and mid-game one of the most effective gems will be Pain Enhancer. 400% dmg per second coming from it will be a higher increase to your overall dmg than a 15% bonus from BotT. Wreath of LIghtning with 600% will be even stronger, the strongest gem at Rank 1, but it requires of youto be close to enemies - DHs do not want that, right? I made some calculations and found out that non-leveled Pain Enhancer outperforms almost any other non-leveled Leg Gems. Just don't upgrade it, get your Zei's and BotT upgraded instead. The moment you get your Mara 4 piece bonus, Pain Enhancer becomes useless (+20% of all dmg dealt by 3-4 turrets, each of them dealing about 1000% weapon dmg in worst case scenario, is clearly better than 400% weapon damage every second) , then you switch to BotT or BotP.
Thanks for that tip about the Leg Gems, rng is so on my side for this case, Pain Enhancer was the 4th one I got! My friend came on and we're doing some more runs, will update later tonight. (Also, FINALLY got a socket on my weapon.)
Quite a few good things to report! So, my friend ran me again, and we didn't get too much done, but I did get Marauders boots. Not sure what ability damage to roll for, Cluster Arrow for now. I also got 3 Blackthorne pieces, chest, belt, and boots. Wearing the chest and belt for 2 piece for now. I was using 3 piece with the boots, but I strapped on the Marauders when Kadala handed me Ancient Marauder shoulders! So, now I've got 3 2-pieces (including Wailing Host and Litany), and decided to finally switch to T1, and notice that I'm going almost no faster than farming Normal. I upgraded my Boon of the Trapped a bit, and I wasn't sure of it till tonight, but Hoarder did drop from a GRift. I have it in non-seasonal, so not sure if that mattered. I might not even use it now though, I already have about 7 million gold atm. Still nice to have, I kind wish I still had Goldwrap and Custerian Bracers, could use those with the gem for gold/paragon farming.
Edit: I played a bit more before bed. I had enough shards to gamble one or two more times, so I ran a few more rifts, and did another bounty or two to round up to 150. Wasn't as necessary as I thought, got a Marauders Helm! Now time to seriously farm for RoRG.
Wow, you've got 3 Mara pieces so fast! Wish I had such a lucky day!
I do not fully agree with Slomos about RoRG. Getting it now will give you both M4 and Blackthorn's bonuses that will improve your efficiency a lot (your damage gonna jump up 2-3 times!). With your current setup you can go up to T2-T3 without problems and have a rather good chance of getting Legendary from Bounties. I've got my RoRG in 2 hours of playing on T3 from 5th cash. But with your luck, maybe, you can get 4th Mara piece even faster while doing T1 rifts and spending shards, especially if you've got some friends that will be kind enough to share their loot with you. And with 4 Mara you can go to higher difficulties very fast as you will accomodate your playstyle to being a human cannon.
I don't think that you will be using Multishot with Full Mara bonus, Cluster Arrow seems to be more efficient, so I'd consider rerolling Multishot on Helm to Crit Chance. But only if it will not break your fun, I see you like MS a lot
Yeah, couldn't believe the luck I had getting two pieces with shards already, and definately notice the damage spike. I am going to focus on farming that ring (hoping I can channel more of that luck, got it on non-season just clearing Act 1 randomly). I'm trying to roll critical on my helm currently, but need more Souls. Also, I think the quiver will be sentry damage, since it's companion atm. Reason I'm using companion damage atm is with a just 2 piece I feel like that'll give more overall damage until I need to start dropping sentries more often with 4 piece and higher.
If I remember right, quivers can roll bonus to any of your spenders, including CA and Multishot. I just don't know if +% dmg to Sentry will affect also all CAs shot by turrets via Mara set or will they benefit from +% CA instead - may be some more experienced players here will shed some light upon it?
Anyway, to maximize you potential with M6 you should find Bombardier's Rucksack so do not spend all your souls trying to maximize stats on one you have.
Thanks, that's what I'll probably do is leave my current Quiver as is (companion damage boost won't suck anyway), and then once I get more core pieces try gambling for Rucksack, and roll that for Cluster/Sentry.
Also, ignore my current skill setup, I think I was trying something weird last night right before bed but I don't remember what.
Didn't get to play too much, but got in a few rounds of Act 1 farming. Sadly, no Ring yet. However, I did get a nice Amulet with real good stats. I switched to using Hoarder gem again, since I want to build up gold and combine more gems. I did make some stronger Emeralds to use tonight. I cranked it up to T3 and was surprised to find myself still having little issue. I'm beginning to think that (Compared to my 70 WD on non-season) Demon Hunters are a bit to op with even M2. Not complaining though, hopefully some other classes get brought up to similar power level. I switched to the CA build, and got cold on my Wraps before running out of Souls again.
Gratz, your Amulet is good, you should feel the difference in numbers, right? CC and CHD are the most important stats for damage output, so If you come across a ring with Dex/CC/CHD/Socket, use it, even if it's yellow, until you get RoRG and SoJ/Unity. Set bonus from Legacy of Nightmares is just laughable, drop it without regret if you get any upgrade ring.
I don't think that in mid-game (before M6 bonus) DH is really OP in comparison to other classes. Monk - yea, he is OP, being able to demolish T3 in full yellow gear and getting past T6 just after getting 3 Sunwuko items. Meanwile, after disconnect loss of my new DH, I switched to Monk and was a bit lucky with him finding some build-making items. Even considering HardCore shift from max DPS to survivability (only 600 k sheet DPS), he's moving through GR30+ like a bulldozer through the field of roses. That's what I call OP 8-).
Anyway, good luck on getting M4 soon and getting as much fun from your game as you can!
Whoops, sorry about that, I tried to post my update earlier form my tablet but I guess it didn't work. Unfortunately I didn't play last night, ended up passing out shortly after I got home and didn't wake up till my alarm went off the next morning ^^;
Thanks for the tip about the rings, I'll haze to check my stash, I think I was saving a decent ring for when I got RoRG and had to break set anyway, I might just equip it now then. Yeah, I'm really surprised how much crit makes such a difference, my DH just feels more capable than my WD does and she has similar gear levels I had thought.
Will definitely get in some playtime tonight and update before bed.
All this from Rifting and gambling. I still need that damn RoRG though, despite getting seemingly less good loot form doing just Bounties. I'm on T4 now, and having a bit of trouble, but not too much. I also upgraded some more gems, normal one, and got a few more levels on my BotT. I'm still starving for Souls to get some better rolls on my gear.
Form here, debating on either Rifts for Marauders Chest, or just get the RoRG. The Ring would help with my Blackthorne set too, but I think I'll need the chest anyway, since I'll need Pride's Fall.
Hey-hey, I'm eager to see your updated armory, mate! It's so exciting to get several updates per game session and see your toon to easily deal with enemies that seemed to be too tough just an hour ago!
There were some M6 builds that didn't include RoRG as a mandatory item in Patch 2.1.1, but then you had not to spend your hatred using CA. Now you'd better use Pride's Fall or Cindercoat to reduce Hatred cost which means you'll have to go through some Bounty circles. Just hope that RNG will favor you, as I can see, you've caught your train with all those Mara pieces. I think that a good way for you to spend your time will be to go through GRifts up to the point where you slow down a bit (since you're capable of T4, I'd say up to GR15), then kill everything as fast as you can, spawn the Rift Guardian with 7-8 minutes left and go do some fast bounty, then return to RG with enough time to kill it. Rinse, repeat. It'll take 2-3 times to set your timing and do the cycle right. So you get both shards, legs from RG and bounties without spending too much time.
And gamble for Chest Armor, you'll need Mara or Cindercoat, everything else is far less crucial for DH (yep, Balckthorn and Aughild are out of competition).
Also, if you're still using +%Cold bracers, try Maelstrom rune for CA, because it will be a multi-purpose skill for you:
1) It's Cold Damage
2) It's using rockets buffed by Ballistics
3) It slows enemies down and triggers Cull the Weak and BotT bonuses
4) It heals you for each enemy hit
Dunno if lower damage from rockets will make it worse than Shooting Stars, there are more rockets, so more AoE. I think it's worth trying.
Just looked at your gear. My recommendation would focus on gloves and RRoG before anything else. The M6 set bonus will catapult you into T6 and mid to high 20s grifts easily. The reason I say gloves before chest is the fire Multishot Arsenal build clears the above stupid fast which means more mats, gems, drops and shards. Thus a cindercoat slots nicely there while you farm. I'd then go ancient barb (unless you drop a crazy ancient Krider, Etrayu or Calamity in the meantime) - Rusack - chest - prides fall. At which point you then decide if you're going cold or physical and roll your plus elemental damage accordingly.
Yeah, Kadala must have a thing for me, I got 3 of my 5 pieces from her alone. I know my rolls aren't optimal right now, but since rerouting legendary needs Forgotten Souls, I can only do it so often, and when I do, that's usually where my luck falters.
For rerolls, here's what I'm trying to get:
Shoulders - Companion > Sentry
Bracers - Cold > Physical
Boots - Move speed > CA
Weapon - RCR > %Damage
The rest I don't think will carry to my final build anyway.
I went for gloves first, since I figured Blackthorne would be decent for now, especially with the Ring when I get it, but I will still gamble for the chest and farm for Pride's Fall inot the mean time.
I suppose I can test out Maelstrom and report how it works out. I thought all cold damage pretty much proc'ed BotT, but either way, it's not like Stars were doing that anyway.
*Stares longingly at the plans I have for Arcane Barb on my Non-Seasonal Blacksmith*
My armory profile looks fully updated right now, I'll relink it for this page. I'm not using the MGloves since it's only 5 piece atm and they don't have as good of stats as my current ones.
Also of not, as far as GRifts go, last night I was able to clear 21 fine, but when it bumped me to 25 I just died over and over, and time capped before I could even spawn the Guardian. Got more levels to my BotT at least ^^
Given that you have gloves you should be doing nothing but farming act 1 bounties until you get a RoRG. Seriously. It will be the biggest upgrade you could possibly get at this moment by getting the M6 bonus. Even without the quiver you're talking a constant 300% damage boost. It's the easiest thing to get out of what you need and everything else will come quick after that due to the jump in grift levels you can farm. My 2 cents anyway.

Itching to play right now, but at work till later tonight, will update more before bed. As far as what I should be aiming for, right now I'm working off the idea that I should be going for this build: http://www.diablofans.com/builds/90-2-1-2-ultimate-end-game-m6-detailed-guide-big
Whoops, sorry about that, I tried to post my update earlier form my tablet but I guess it didn't work. Unfortunately I didn't play last night, ended up passing out shortly after I got home and didn't wake up till my alarm went off the next morning ^^;
Wow, quite the haul tonight!
*Marauders Pants and Gloves!
*Stone of Jordan!
*New 2H Crossbow!
Maelstrom doesn't proc BotT from what I've been told. Only EA Frost Arrow and Polar sentries proc it. It changed in 2.1.2
Just looked at your gear.
